Shangai Disneyland’s heavyweight WDI head

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

So it seems the beans have been spilled, the cat is out of the bag, the dice has been rolled and the heads have been cut; Bob Weiss will be the Walt Disney Imagineering head for Shangai Disneyland – it was a head to head battle between him and Scott Trowbridge (the guy which gave us IOA’s Spiderman ride who had joined WDI in 2007) and Bob won.

Who is Bob Weiss?
Well he is a WDI old timer; he headed, together with the Kirk brothers (the guys who gave us the amazing “Tokyo DisneySEA” much of the initial design for the original “Disney MGM Studios Theme Park2 in 1989.

Then he had a period of “bizare luck”
The guy was first called upon to design (again together with the Kirk’s) the never built “Disney MGM Studios Europe Themepark” which would have been the original second gate for EuroDisneyland.

Dad’s at Disneyland

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

dl-mandmIt’s not the first time I tell people Disney isn’t just for kids, and I guess it will not be the last time either. Not only do I convince people of this fact some don’t understand, but once I get some adult to tag along with me in a Disney park they really see what I and those other adult Disney fans are talking about. Adults can have fun too! I have been in Disneyland Paris on my own on many occasions and have been the Walt Disney World a couple of time with a friend too. We are not the only once who think it is possible, just like two Disney adventures sharing their magic on the web.

And why can’t a couple of dads in their 40s have a blast at the so-called Happiest Place on Earth? (

D23 … step by step IV

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

d23-2The second issue is out and has arrived at my doorstep. (Or should I say under my car porch as that’s where the postman left it). Although not being excited about it, after not liking the first one, I do had to open it immediately. It’s Disney after all and I couldn’t wait to see it, even if I thought it would not be any better then the first issue. But,… I was going to be pleasantly surprised.

Although I am a big fan of the parks and always hope for in dept park stories and secrets and hope to see something of the parks on the cover, I must admit that I was drawn to the nice Donald Duck cover first. “Donald Duck, 75 years of Mischief, mayhem & mirth!” was the appropriate title to the cover. But it was time to look inside and see if the book could change my mind… and somehow it did. It starts straight away with an article about the new Monster Inc. Attraction in Tokyo Disneyland and was followed with a look at the Disneyland Gallery in the next article. A very promising start.

New Star Tours Movie!

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

starspeeder3000Finally, after all the rumors and news about the new Star Tours project, it looks like filming the new movie is on its way.

Yesterday was the third day of a secret LucasFilm film shoot in West Hollywood. If you were allowed to enter the “LODESTAR” production stage, you would’ve seen Boba Fett, Admiral Ackbar, a Tusken Raider, and even some Jawas. C3PO himself Anthony Daniels will be filming later this week. (/film)

The big question is what parks will get the new version? Will all US parks get a new movie or will it be a Disneyland only update (for now). And what about Tokyo or Paris? I can see Tokyo go for a new version too (just my 2 cents), but with the financial status in Paris the chances are very slim a new version would make it out there (for now). To be continued in a Disney galaxy…

Attraction Attendance Report

Friday, April 17th, 2009

wdw-nice-castle2008 has not been the best year for the theme park around the world. Parks have seen their attendance and guest spending drop. The 2008 Attraction Attendance Report from TEA ERA shows a clear picture on 2008 and it’s, mainly losses of guests for some of the big names in the business.

In the 2008 top 20 of highest attendance in Theme Parks of North America you have the Magic Kingdom on top again. It closed the year with 17,063,000 visitors. They should be happy about that, even if that number is no improvement from last year, during these dark times of recession that isn’t the worst result. On the second place we find Disneyland with 14,721,000 visitors, a drop of 1% from the previous year. Epcot, just like the Magic Kingdom, also didn’t loose or gained any more visitors then the previous year, with a count of 10,935,000 visitors. Epcot got third place.

wdwfireworks-3yHas it really been three years? A quick look at the archives, and yes, it has been!. Our first entry dates from 21st February 2006, so the Mousekingdom blog is celebrating its third year on the web and is ready for year 4.

Blue Main Entrance Pass

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

wdwcaslte-sonice-smallHow much would you pay for that one Disney collectible you so desire? How about a million dollars to get your hand on a Blue Main Entrance Pass? Well, if you go to Ebay it can be yours for that price… if you are the high bidder. Bidding starts at a whooping $1,000,000 for a used card. As a collector myself I would love to have this card,… but not for that price.

The highest price I have ever seen paid was for a Disneyland Resort Paris entry test card. The collector paid about $750 for this card and up to today it is the only one I have seen so far. Again, something I would not pay (for that money I would go to a Disney park), but for some collectors it doesn’t seem to high.

When Will Walt Disney World Have an Answer?

Monday, January 19th, 2009

wdw-nice-castleThe news or even a rumour of a new attraction is always something exciting. We love to hear about it, write about it and dream about it. But it has been a while since we got some exciting news lately. The excitement came from other parks. Seaworld is getting “Manta”, Universal Studios is building “Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit” Roller coaster and Island of Adventure has plans to stun the audience with their Harry Potter park. All this is happening while Walt Disney World announced… well, nothing much.

OK, that wasn’t totally fair. Walt Disney World is getting Idol! It is also updating Space Mountain to Space Mountain Mission 2 and a new Stitch attraction has just entered the rumour mill.

Drifting is nothing new and has been around for a while, especially when racing a car. But the “drift racing” was born on the mountain roads of Japan in the 90′ and it’s only the last years it has won popularity in the US and UK. The movie “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” was the first Hollywood feature, related to the sport, that took it to the big screen.

On December 12 however a new group of racing cars will be drifting on the big screen; “Pixar’s Tokyo Mater”. The 6 minute short will be screened together with Bolt. Bolt has been out for four weeks and those that could not wait to see it will now have to go back if they want to see the new Pixar short (or wait for a DVD version).

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Hi my friends
This la Andrea reporting LIVE from Walt Disney World (I have always dreamed about saying it ;-) )

Anyways , after a heavy work year in which I have also lived the double life of manager and University student for a second Degree (how does HAndrea Montana sound? ;-) and having spent thr last 2 weeks on a round the world business tour in hong kong (yes don’t ask ITSM at HKDL is beautifull ;-), Singapore, Auckland and Australia (Perth,Melbourne,Brisbane and Sydney) I decided instead of flying back to Italy to chill my brain out in WDW

…and as, besides a few meetups with local friends, I am all alone on this trip (Danke Her V.D. ;-) ) with my Iphone I’ll blog here and there (as long as the 3G battery lasts that is; which won’t be long! )

Private DisneySea Visit

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

It would be a dream of many Disney fans; Having one of the Disney parks opened just for yourself (and you family). During the 25th anniversary of Tokyo Disneyland one family was lucky enough to be picked out of 1609 families who all submitted applications to be able to visit the park privately. Not even Michael Jackson had the whole park to himself when he visited…

In 1987, when singer Michael Jackson visited the park, people were barred from entering some facilities. But the anniversary event was the first time that the entire facility at Tokyo DisneySea or Tokyo Disneyland was reserved for only one family or individual… (Yomiuri)

Tokyo Disneyland Hotel

Monday, July 7th, 2008

The grand opening for the new Tokyo Disneyland Hotel is planned for tomorrow, the 8th July, but one photographer already posted some pictures of the exterior and interior of the awesome looking hotel. The hotel looks amazing and adds some more magic to the already fantastic Tokyo Disneyland Resort. “Well done Mickey”… or should we say, “Well done Oriental Land Company

For a collection of awesomeness follow the link to the album filled with pictures of the new hotel.
