Michael Jackson’s Disneyana Collection – AUCTION STOPPED (update!)

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

mj-auction0If the money is gone, you have to start selling some of your things. It can happen to the best of us, even Michael Jackson, the king of pop. After already selling his ranch Michael has no other option to sell some of his private collection so he can pay his bills. In this collection, as was to be expected, are a lot of Disneyana to be found. Browsing the catalog some amazing Disney things popped up. So if you have a couple of left over dollars, maybe something is in the collection for you. Although, I must admit, I don’t think “left over dollars” will be enough as most of the items are big, some of them are very rare and all of them will go for top dollars.

More Nominations for Disney

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

walle-s1The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror films has announced their nominations for the 35th Annual Saturn Awards that will take place on 25th June. Disney has also received some nominations for the Saturn awards. Four nominations go to “The Chronicles of Narnia; Prince Caspian” in the category Best Fantasy Film, Best Costume, Best Make-Up and Best Special Effects. Andrew Stanton got an nomination for Best Director for the Oscar winning “Wall-E”. “Wall-E” also scores an nomination in Best Animation Film. It is up against “Bolt” and “Kung Fu Panda”, but this time there is also “Madagascar: Escape to Africa”, “Horton Hears a Who” and “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” fighting in the same category for that price.

“Lost” (ABC) is nominated for Best Network Television Series and after just recently seeing the episode dedicated to John Locke I can see this one winning. This is not the only nomination for “Lost” as Matthew Fox is nominated for Best Actor in Television and Evangeline Lilly for Best Actress in Television. However Evangeline Lilly has to fight against Anna Paquin who is amazing in the fantastic vampire series “True Blood”.

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Now Walt Disney World guest who will be going during the Star Wars Weekends at the Disney Hollywood Studios will be able to wear the quote when they buy the T-Shirt. The T-Shirt will not be related to the Paris ride, but will portray Mickey in a Stormtrooper outfit and Minnie popping the question. This is only one example of the great merchandise Disney and Star Wars fans will see during the Star Wars weekends. Yet again, like every year, collectors will love all the goodies offered during this yearly event.

Impact on the Mouse

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Mickey Mouse has a big impact on American history, an impact that goes far beyond American boundaries. Just look at the theme parks around the world, the movies playing in thousand theaters and the millions of toys in the shops. Even if you don’t have a Disney holiday, most likely you will still encounter some sort of Disney on your trip (or near your home). You can also ask what cartoon character is the most known in the world; I am pretty confident that Mickey Mouse will make it on the top spot as most well known cartoon character. Mickey (and his friends) are everywhere, even making an impact on our daily lives.

But what about the impact on Mickey Mouse and Disney from the outside? It’s a question that popped up in my head, more specifically the impact of today and in the (near) future! Let’s have a look at some possible theories (I think) that has have impact on the mouse and that might form the future look of Disney. Let’s do so starting with the biggest influence at the moment; PIXAR!

The Pirates of the Caribbean Pocket Model Game

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

piratesgamewizkids.jpgToday WizKids announces that they signed a deal with Disney to create a “Pirates of the Caribbean” PocketModel Game. I love the games of Wizkids and have been playing their Marvel HeroClix, DC Heroclix and HorrorClix games since the beginning. (For those knowing the game; I own both the Galactus and the Phoenix figures.)

The also created the game Pirates; a game where players can battle it out using construct 3-D pirate ships from pieces punched out of a styrene card. (WizKids) This however is a game I haven’t played yet, although it did look intriguing.

Star Wars Characters Arriving at Orlando Airport

Monday, May 21st, 2007

starwarsorlandoairpotposterboba1.jpgFlying into Orlando airport visitors will not miss the awesome posters inviting them to come and visit the Star Wars Weekends between 1 June and 24 June at the Disney-MGM studios in Walt Disney World. You’ll get to see pictures from Yoda lifting baggage, Darth Vader taking of his shoes, Darth Maul helping airplanes to land using Lightsabers, Tie Fighters docked at the gates and my favorite; Boba Fett bringing in Han Solo in Carbonite. I wonder if he had to pay more for the extra weight…

The Cinemagique we didn’t get…

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

Cinemagique is one of the top attractions in the Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Resort Paris. The journey through the history of movies from the early days all the way to todays blockbusters like Monsters, Inc. enchants guests and regularly manages to get even applause. But us with most great attractions and movies before guests get treated to the finalized project the creative team considers many different concepts, ideas and approaches. Information about these early concepts is rather hard to get by – especially for theme park attractions such as Cinemagique which just don’t get released on official DVDs with comprehensive bonus material. But now and then fans are lucky – as right now in the case of Cinemagique.

Thanks need to go to the blog Cartoon Brew who got YouTube-user CyberShire to reveal the story behind his 6 chapters of “Famous Balloon Movies”… (more…)

Stitch the Movie Star and the Posters to Proof It!

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

StarWarsStitch.jpgThe German blog Walt-Arbeiter has pointed out a Japanese web where you can find muck up posters of American movies with a famous Alien figure that has landed in Hawaii. How is that for being international!

HarryPotterStitch.jpgStitch is trying to convince us that he was the big star in many Hollywood movies and he has the posters to proof it.

You’ll find many posters of big hits including, Jaws, ET, Lord of the Rings, Jurassic park, Star Wars and many, many more. My favorites: Star Wars and Face Off. The Harry Potter one is very clever, especially the added villains. Check out the rest, they’re fun!

A Jedi, a Donut and the Kraken

Friday, August 4th, 2006

JediJHM1.jpgIf you would like to know what the people at LucasFilm Ltd do during there free time visit JimHillMedia to see “Jedi Elizabeth”, Krispy Kreame Donuts”, computers doing some clothing ‘mess up’ (where a pirate looses his pants) and a Pirates crew doing the Chorus Line. Unfortunately these are only stills from what must have been a very funny presentation at SIGGRAPH 2006 but let’s hope this stuff makes it to the DVD.

There is also a great picture of the Kraken compared to the Black Pearl

Unofficial Star Wars Fan Day at Disneyland

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

Unofficial Star Wars DayIf you can’t make a trip to Walt Disney World for the Star Wars weekend maybe you’ll make it over to Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. With the lack of official Star Wars Weekends or events at the park in California some fans have taken it in their own hands and are inviting all fans for an unofficial Star Wars Fan day at Disneyland.

This is the second time they organize this event. Not only do they promise it to be a nice day but they also sell some T-Shirts for the event and will donate the money to the American Cancer Society. Last year they had 120 people at their event, this year they want more. Why?

Why not? It started as a protest to Disney about the lack of Star Wars Weekends here at our Disneyland and has now turned into a massive fan get together! This year, we’re pushing harder for a cause, all shirt sale proceeds for the event go straight to the American Cancel Society!
