Pirates of the Caribbean & Haunted Mansion at Comic-Con (updated!)

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

As promised in our post about the TRON panel at this year’s Comic-Con there were two huge surprises after the official end of that panel according to Deadline Hollywood well worthy of separate coverage if you ask me.

First there was a 3D clip of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow as we will meet him in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger Tides, the fourth movie of Disney’s hit franchise. Being the first of the series produced in 3D certainly will add an extra level to the experience of following Jack Sparrow in his search for the Fountain of Youth – which the clip sort of confirmed as one of the plot points for the movie – that is, if Jack receives all he needs for the quest, which according to him is “a bloody map…or a Bloody Mary…or both.”

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Are you a fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise? Loving its stars? Would you love to sneak on the sets where currently the fourth installment – PotC On Stranger Tides – is being filmed? Yes?? Well … you know, Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer as the producer behind the series might not be all too happy about that … BUT … there is another way to get a first glimpse of the action in the making of the upcoming 3D-release. And no, I am not talking about teaser trailers or long range telezoom shots on websites and in print magazines … I am talking realy for real close-up shots of the crews and the filming. Interested? I Want To Be a Pirate

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

According to El Pais, the biggest Spanish Newspaper, Penelope Cruz has declined a roll in the next Lars von Trier movie “Melancholia” so she could turn into a pirate in the next Pirates movie, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”.

Both movies will be filmed during the same time period so Penelope Cruz had to make a choice and picked to be a pirate.

This will not be the first time she works with Rob Marshall, who will be the director of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. They already worked together on the musical movie “Nine” for which she is nominated for an Oscar as “Best Supporting Actress”.

Jack Sparrow, Spidey & Thor

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

With The Walt Disney Company having taken control of the comic juggernaut Marvel the Walt Disney Company is now in the unique position of having its (well, Marvel’s) characters getting brought to the big movie screen by various with TWDC competing studios and via various with TWDC competing distribution companies, such as Paramount Distribution (e.g. for Thor being produced by Marvel Studios) or Sony (for Spiderman). Speaking of Spidey 4 as well as Thor … during the recent hours the news on these two projects have been exploding impacting even Disney’s very own Pirates of the Caribbean franchise… (more…)

Spooky Disney Site

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

DisneyHauntedHolidaySiteDisney launched a new Website to celebrate the Haunted Holidays. The site invites guest to see some “scary Disney” videos. How scary can this magical place get? Not to scary in my honest opinion. However, loving Disney villains and Disney Haunts makes browsing this site real fun. You get to see videos related to Haunted Mansion, Snow White, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Muppets, A Christmas Carol, Nightmare Before Christmas, Tales of Two Cities and the new The Princess and the Frog. A New Captain!

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

johnnydepp-jacksparrowPirates of the Caribbean has been the success story of Disney’s live feature movies. Nobody was surprised Disney would continue the franchise for as long as they could. With Johnny Depp being partly responsible for the success as Captain Jack Sparrow it isn’t a surprise Disney wanted him back on board for the next trilogy. With the 4th movie being green lighted and Johnny on board, the movie is going to be a success at the box office for sure but could this be the end for Johnny and Jack? (more…)

$500 Million Pirates Treasure

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

chowyunfat-out1.jpgIt only took 20 days for Pirates of the Caribbean; at Worlds End to pass the $500 million mark. The world wide success is helping to get to these monster earnings. For example opening day in China was good for $1.3 million.

The Pirates at China don’t come without an extra price though. To be able to show the movie in China the price of “censorship” needs to be paid. I could fill a whole blog telling how I feel about censorship or maybe it is just an angry reaction to the fact that it was parts of Chow Yun Fat role that had been cut. He was partly cut out of the movie because they didn’t like how the Chinese pirate was portrayed on screen…

Weetabix Cereals 2… or: “Pirates take over – Part II: battlefield breakfast table”. I admit that I followed the numerous reports and discussions about the sweetened breakfast cereals that Kellog’s offered adorned with Disney brands and characters in the US amusing. But then I opened the flyer of the local supermarket last night to scan the offers for the coming week and saw it: TWO Disney branded cereals from a company called Weetabix, here in Germany (and as I learned online also available in the UK)!!

Chow Yun Fat visits Hong Kong Pirateland

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

chowyunfat-hkdl1.jpgFrom May 4 to June 30, 2007, Adventureland has been transformed into Pirateland celebrating the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. To support the Pirates at Hong Kong Disneyland Chow Yun Fat made a visit.

Chow Yun Fat, who plays the pirate Sao Feng in the upcoming movie Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World’s End, visited Hong Kong Disneyland to experience the totally new Pirate Takeover.

When Chow Yun Fat came aboard the Pirates franchise (you get it, came aboard – Sorry for the silliness) I totally geek-ed out. Chow Yun Fat is my favorite actor and has been for a very long time. All you Disney fans, if you like his acting take the time to find some of his other great work. I know some don’t like to watch movies that are not taped in English, but give it a chance. Some of his best work include; “Hard Boiled” (my favorite), “The Killer”, “God of Gamblers”, “A Better Tomorrow” and “Crouching tiger, Hidden Dragon”, however there are a lot more. (Warning, the list above might be rated, check if the movie is appropriate for the persons watching them)
