New Fantasy Project for Disney

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

stoneheartbookDisney might have dished the Narnia franchise but is looking to fill the gab with a new fantasy project. Disney and ImageMovers are in negotiations to pick up the rights for the “The Stoneheart Trilogy,” a young-adult fantasy book series by Charlie Fletcher. ImageMovers’ Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey would be producing the movie.

The books revolve around a 12-year-old London boy who enters a hidden alternate world where statues, imbued with the soullike essence of their makers, come to life. The boy’s presence upsets a balance between good and evil, and while dealing with such creatures as sphinxes and gargoyles, he teams with an orphan girl and the statue of a World War I gunner to try to set things right. New Home for Narnia

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

narnia3The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader has found a new home. Disney dropped to project about a month ago but Fox has now picked up the option to co-finance the movie together with the media company Walden. A release date is planned for the 2010 holidays and it will be released through the Fox Walden label.

The previous Narnia movie, still co-produced with Disney, had a $215 million budget while the new the next movie will have a $140 million budget.

While the first movie was very enjoyable, the second movie was disappointing. The best part of the second movie was the scene where the White Witch (almost) came back to life. Unfortunately she didn’t last long in the movie. One can only hope the third part will be an improvement, but with a lower budget it could become just “another” sequel to try and catch some easy bucks… (I could be wrong)

Brands in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian?

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Some of you might remember that I pointed out a fun feature on the website brandchannel.com a couple of weeks ago: BrandCameo which keeps track of the brands popping up in the number one movies according to the US box office numbers. “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” having won the crown last week (before ceeding it to Indy 4 this weekend) I wondered, whether there would be any brands to report and checked out the site today. And very much to my surprise there was a brand cameo in the movie – even so it plays most of the time in the fantasy world of Narnia!!

Dawn Treader to set sail with new director

Monday, May 19th, 2008

As reported earlier today the Narnia Chronicles keep Disney rather busy right now with all the promotion going on for the second installment of the series (Prince Caspian), which opened only past weekend, but also with the pre-production for the third movie of the series “The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader”. John Griffin of The Gazette now got the first scoop on the 2010 Narnia movie from Andrew Adamson, director of the first two installments of the series (as well as Dreamwork’s Shrek and Shrek 2 – which the article accidentially credits to Disney <g>)…

Hail to the Prince…

Monday, May 19th, 2008

… I am not talking about the singer with the ever changing name (why should I say hail to him?) … I am talking about Prince Caspian, the second installment of the “Chronicle of Narnia” series of Walt Disney Pictures, which premiered in the US and selected international numbers before the weekend. The results? First spot in the movie charts on its opening weekend - but that is only part of the story …

The Dawn Treader meets Wall-E

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

We are still waiting for the May 16 opening of the second installment of the “Narnia”-series, titled “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” (or even longer for some of us here in Eruope, where at least in Germany the movie won’t open till July!) … but the powers at Disney and Walden (the partner of Disney for this franchise) already proof all the gloom sayers on the internet wrong by announcing, that Disney and Walden are NOT abandoning the franchise!!

While some popular sites already declared the series dead or nearly dead unless the second movie did outstanding business the partners used the Comic Con in New York to announce that filming for the third movie in the series will commence as early as October of this year!

The Chronicles of …. Prague?

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Certainly not …. Walt Disney Pictures fantasy epos is still titles ”The Chronicles of Narnia”. The filming for the second film of the series (the follow up to “The Chronicles of Narnia – The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe”), titled “The Chronicles of Narnia – Prince Caspian” has moved back to Europe, where extensive parts of the first movie were shot.

Shooting already started in early February in New Zealand but according to press reports the team is currently shooting in Prague and will continue to do so in several locations in the Czech Republic till August. As was the case in New Zealand in February no exact locations are disclosed in advance but the Germany daily “BusinessNews” cites an employee of the Barrandow Movie Studios in Prague stating that some of the locations will be close to the German Czech border. So far the shooting took place in the city center of Prague part of which had to be closed off. To be exact initial shooting took place close to the Philharmony Hall where several typical British telephone boots were errected and a fake version of the underground station “Strand” from London, as shooting in Prague is just plain cheaper and easier to organize than in London.

The release of the second movie of the fantasy epos is currently scheduled for May 16, 2008 - so fans of CS Lewis’ work will have to wait a bit longer … till then we will try to keep you up-to-date about interesting news here on the blog – or check out NarniaWeb which is dedicated to cover the whole Narnia movie world. They were even able to score a casting call for male riders (age 30-50) for the shooting around Prague and some set pictures from New Zealand.

Narnia III: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

narnia-iii-movie.jpgWith Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe being a success it wasn’t a big surprise they where going to make a second movie.

The second movie isn’t even ready yet and talks about a third one are already going on. Neil Burger, the director of “The Illusionist”, seems to be attached to the third movie.

If rumors are correct the movie will be “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”, the third (and the fifth in chronological order) Narnia book written by C.S Lewis (source MovieHole.com)

A sequel, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, is in the works, but its producers are keeping details under wraps. “We’re going to shoot in January, and that’s going ahead,” Moseley says, and shooting is slated to continue through the summer. “I haven’t seen a completed script yet,” he says. “They’re keeping it really hush-hush. Whether it’s even finished, I don’t know.”
