A Little More MyMagic+

Tuesday, January 8th, 2013

A little more information is leaking regarding the MyMagic+ wristbands. Walt Disney World Hotel bookers and Annual passes will get the bands at no extra costs but the future plan is to have all guests wear a wristbands with the RFID integrated.

The wristbands will be available in different colors or themes. Some of these Disney themes can be from a Pirates of the Caribbean, some of the Pixar characters, Disney princesses and many more. It is also rumored that there could be some special wristbands done by other companies like Dooney & Burke and Swarovski and for those that don’t like wearing anything around their wrist there might be alternatives coming in the form of keychains and other jewelry.

MyMagic+

Monday, January 7th, 2013

Disney has made it official, the Next-gen technology will be introduced soon under “MyMagic+” for the Walt Disney World resort. With this new tool Disney guests will be able to create their Disney vacation from the comfort of their own home. Guest will be able to use a new website “My Disney Experience” where they will be able to book dinner reservations and other Disney experiences. There will also be an option to book a selection of FastPass+ to avoid not only the lines at the attractions but also a visit to the FasPass booths.

The FastPass+ option will not only include attractions but will have Character meet and greet, preferred firework and parade viewing place and other options. The firework and Parade option could be your key to make sure to see your favorites from a dedicated space every time you want. (I know I’ll be booking Illuminations on many nights once available).

To be able to take advantage of all the early bookings guest will be provided a special RFID wristband named “MagicBand”. This wristband will serve as your hotel room key, park admission, the FastPass+ pre-booked options, your personal photopass and will even have an integrated payment option. The later one might come with a code once spending will reach a certain amount. This to protect the owners in case they would loose their wristband and to avoid those dishonest guests from plundering your account.

With the personal information saved on your wristband character will now also be able to know your name and use it when you visit them. Imagine the faces of the children when talking Mickey comes up to them and knows their names. This might not be for integrated in the early phase of the project, but one that is sure one of the many future options that will find it’s way into the system.

There is no specific date yet when the MyMagic+ will completely take over, but it is slowly finding it ways into the park as some guests already have been part of the testing phase.

Also read the WDWnewstoday article. They where the first to bring out this exciting news. Also visit the Disneyparks blog for some more pictures.

Are you a Disney fan and can’t stop talking about the parks? Always sharing everything you know to those that want to listen? Are you, day in and day out, sharing your love for the park to everyone? But it’s still not enough and you want to share even more. Well, then you should have a look at the new Disney program where Disney fans can share their knowledge with the rest of the world as a member of the Disney parks InsidEARS project.

Disney fans like you and me can become part of the program to help Disney park visitors from all over to create their perfect trip. What better place to get your tips from then from those enthusiasts that visit the parks again and again.

The program has just been launched and is still in testing phase, but with a new site up it will not be long before the first Disney Parks InsidEARS will start helping spreading the magic.  To be able to become part of this program you will have to visit their website regularly for updates to find out on how to become part of this. Sounds like fun, something most of us Disney fans would love (and already do a lot). We never get tired of talking about the parks, don’t you agree?

Disneyland Paris Sand Sculptures Opening Night

Friday, June 10th, 2011

Last night it was special opening night for the Sand Sculpture Festival Blankenberge 2011 based on the MagicalMoments Festival of Disneyland Paris. It was going to be a magical night and a beginning of a wonderful summer at the Belgium coast side. The VIP’s, Press, friends, Disney Cast Members, Disney Ambassadors and fans where invited

to see the opening of a fantastic display made out of… sand!

The opening ceremony started with a small introduction about the project. The idea started by one of the artist while working on an ice sculpture event in Paris. This man is Alexander Deman. He contacted Disneyland Paris, met up in January and only 5 months later he and his team created a fantastic sand sculpture display of Disneyland Paris attractions and some of Disney’s most beloved characters. Alexander came to the stage and talked about the work and invited all artist on stage who where welcomed by a big applause from the public. The 2 Disney ambassadors Régis  & Osvaldo visited especially from Paris and where impressed about what they saw here in Blankenberge. They where thrilled about what they witnessed today and loved being a part of it.

After the introduction it was time to officially open the event and who better then Mickey Mouse himself would be given the honors to open the gates for the first visitors.

The sand sculptures are divided in multiple areas. The first area guest can visit once they enter the festival is the Main Marquee. In front of this big tent Mickey Mouse and Minnie are awaiting the guests next to Disneyland Railroad. These figures look amazing and are only a small treat to what is still to come. Inside the Marquee guest are invited to screens showing some scenes of Disneyland Paris before they go around the corner where a bigger screen shows them how the artist have worked on the sand creations the last couple of months. You will see how they work on the Disney Characters and how they set up the big Sleeping Beauty Castle. Worth checking out before entering the main hall of the tent where the real work is shown.

Once inside the main room guest will see Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse showing the way trough the sculptures. There are a total of 52 Sculptures or scenes in this tent alone. Some of them big, others even bigger. Just beside Walt and Mickey you’ll find Main street. The detail is amazing, including name shields, birds and decorations, as we come to know and love them by Disney. Here your trip starts around the sculptures that include Tangled, Casey Jr., Dumbo, Snow White, Belle, Jasmine, Aladdin, Cinderella, Beast’s Castle, Pocahontas, Mulan, Ariel, Alice in Wonderland and many more. The displays are amazing, big, beautiful and created with eye for detail. A wonderful adventure for everybody who enters. Alice’s Curious Labyrinth for example is fun and extremely creative. A fantastic job by the artists.

Once your visit in the main marquee comes to an end you’ll be welcomed to even more amazing sand sculptures. The next 19 displays are some of the most beautiful of them all. They include The Sleeping Beauty Castle, Phantom Manor and boot hill (my personal favorite), Space Mountain and the Tower of Terror. A stunning display!

But it doesn’t end there! There is more. Inside the Round Marquee you’ll find some of Disney’s favorite characters from Jungle Book, the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and the Lion King. Don’t miss those amazing displays, especially Skull Rock.

The smallest tent is the Pixar Marquee. As the name already suggest, you’ll find some of Pixar most beloved characters like Buzz, Sulley, Ratatouille and Wall-E.

There are 125 sand sculptures and displays. Enough to keep you and your whole family entertained for a couple of hours.

It’s pure magic and everybody working on this project should be proud. Well worth a visit as you will be enchanted and will want to drive straight on to Disneyland Paris afterwards. I know I did.

After the tour and to end this special opening there was one more magical moment awaiting us. A fantastic Fireworks display. Especially for this event the fantastic music of Illuminations was used. This is my favorite Disney experience in Walt Disney World and it was the cherry on the cake for this wonderful and magical event.

The Sand Sculptures Festival is open until September 12 from 10 AM to 7 PM. For more information on the event visit www.zandsculptuur.be

A visit is highly recommended to anybody, even if you havn’t been to Disneyland Paris (yet). It will put a smile on the faces of both young and old…

Keep on visiting the blog for more pictures soon.

Disney handwritten letter to Mickey creator and More Disney Auctions

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Live Auctioneers has a big auction coming up this weekend where Disney fans’ hearts will beat either a little harder or might even skip a couple of beats when they see the fantastic collection of items that will go under the hammer. There are to many lots to name but I picked a couple of my favorites to give you an idea on what to expect.

How about a “Complete Gladiator Costume from Tron” for those fans of the 1982 Tron movie. I know there are plenty and there is plenty in the auction from Tron for them. Other Tron items include “Tron Light Cycles print signed by Syd Mead” and a “Tron crew jacket and original press kit” among many other Tron stuff.

Want something special straight from the Disney Parks history. You could own a Lincoln bust prototype estimated $4000 to $6000. There are also some first day Disneyland opening tickets set to go for $1.500 or more. There are even some ride vehicles in the auction lot from Snow White and Mr Toad ride and an original 1962 Haunted Mansion door comings from the attraction.

With the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie coming up it’s a great moment to have some Pirates items in your auction too. This includes some amazing stuff like “Pirates of the Caribbean Keira Knightly costume”, “Johnny Depp “Capt. Jack Sparrow” stunt flintlock from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”, “Johnny Depp “Capt. Jack Sparrow” stunt flintlock from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” and lots of other cool pirates items.

Tim Burton items are also being sold during the auction. There will be a whole lot of Original Tim Burton hand-drawn ink sketches for Vincent, but also items from Nightmare on Chistmas like a “Collection of 12 color storyboards from The Nightmare Before Christmas” and other artwork. But that’s just the beginning as there is some amazing Nightmare stuff to choose from, including original puppets and items used on the set and in the movie.

But the one and most important items will be a letter written and signed by Walt Disney himself. It’s the “Disney handwritten letter to Mickey creator” written by Disney to Ub Iwerk. This historical document is estimated $60.000 to $80.000 and has been in the hands of the Iwerks family up to now.

This letter documents a major turning point for Disney, urging Iwerks to leave Kansas City, move to Los Angeles and accept his offer to become Disney’s chief animator, marking the moment in time in which history was secured and the Master of Fantasy and the Hand Behind the Mouse came to an agreement that would ultimately change popular culture as we know it today. (Live Auctioneers)

A true gem for a real (and wealthy) Walt Disney collector

Other Disney items include animation production cells, concept art, drawings, Theme Park attraction posters, Club 33 chair, maquettes, and a lot more. There is also a big collection of other movie and TV items not related to Disney.

Auction starts on May 14 and will be divided over 2 days. Early bids can be placed via the site.

Disney Store Opens In Antwerp

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

Today the Disney Store opened their first store in the Benelux in Antwerp, Belgium. The grand opening took place at 11am with a special opening ceremony where Mickey and Minnie came out of the store to welcome the public and Disney fans to enter the shop for the very first time. A little girl was picked you was handed a key from Mickey. With this key she could open the store to the general public.

The store is a shop on two floors filled with Disney merchandise. Classic Disney figures, princesses, Disney movies, Pixar and, yes, Marvel related merchandise. The store is a fun place with some special surprises like light up threes that show some Disney Magic, A big interactive movie screen and a mirror showing some magical moments that involve the Disney princesses.

The interactive part of the shop is real fun, especially if you are going there during your birthday. Let on of the Cast Members now it’s your birthday and see what happens in the whole of the shop.

Unfortunately the Disney geeks and collectors will not find what they love so much as the Pins, Vynilmations, Walt Disney Classic Collection, Snow Globes and such are missing from the store.

The store can be found on “De Meir”, the biggest shopping street in the heart of Antwerp, Belgium.

Well worth a visit as you will see on the rest of the pictures.

A Pirate’s Ship, a Mousekedances Album and Walt’s Signature

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

Are you a Disney collector looking for something special that can’t be found in the Disney stores and Theme Parks. How about visiting auctions? You can always find something special there. In about 3 days Julien’s Live will action of some amazing stuff in their “Hollywood Legends Auction”. Some of this stuff is truly awesome. From the TV hit “Heroes” to the fantastic movie Serenity, from Star Wars to Marlene Dietrich and a lot more. There are 602 different lots starting from $50 to well over $10000.

For the Disney fanatics and specialist collectors there are three lots to look out for. All three of them pretty amazing. The three lots are…

“DISNEYLAND ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING FANTASYLAND PIRATE SHIP”
An architectural drawing for the Disneyland Inc. Fantasyland Pirate Ship. Drawing is dated “5-7-55,” showing the side and end elevations of the ship, marked “Sheet No. A3.” Designed by WED Enterprises. Designed to resemble Captain Hook’s pirate ship, it served as a restaurant at Disneyland from 1955 to 1982. (lot 357)

This lot is estimated $500 to $700.

The second item is…

“WALT DISNEY AND MICKEY MOUSE CLUB SIGNED ALBUM”
A 10″ 78 rpm copy of “Mousekedances” signed on record label by Walt Disney and on the reverse label by members of The Mickey Mouse Club including: Annette, Doreen, Karen, Tommy, Cheryl, Roy, Cubby, Jimmie Dodd and Bobby. (lot 358)

An amazing item signed by 9 people. This is an absolute rare find and is estimated to bring $800 to $1000.

And item number three…

“WALT DISNEY SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH”
An original vintage photograph inscribed and signed by Walt Disney. (lot 359)

A gem for sure and something many Walt Disney fans would love to own. Estimated at $600 to $800, but I see this item selling for more beating the higher end estimate. Beautiful Disney collectible. For those that want to place a bit; happy bidding and good luck and if you win it let us know…

Mickey Mouse Feature Movie

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Burny Mattinson, who is working on a new Winnie the Pooh movie, mention that he has an idea to have Mickey Mouse star in his own full length feature movie

I am working on just an idea of my own which is basically a Mickey, Donald, Goofy feature film idea. We have to present it first to the bosses to get the green light. (via Bleeding Cool)

Burny Mattinson, born in 1935, started working for Disney in 1953 and has been in the company for his entire career. He worked on many Disney movies including The Great Mouse Detective, Beauty and the Beast, The Black Cauldron, Aladdin, The Lion King and many more.

Early Epic Mickey Release in Europe

Sunday, November 21st, 2010

The new Nintendo Wii game Epic Mickey by Disney Interactive is expected to become a big success for the Wii platform. Release date for the USA is set to November 30 and at this time it looks like this date will be honnored. In Europe a date was set for November 25 (example; Belgium and France) or November 26 (UK) but the game is already widely available since November 19 in some shops. I had the game in my hand and was very tempted but I could put it back in the shelves (for now). I’ll just wait a little longer so I can by them on Amazon as the price there are aways slightly (and sometimes a lot) better then in the high street shops. (more…)

Don’t Queue to Meet the Characters!

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Going to Disneyland Paris and want to meet the characters?

It’s horror for many parents, the hour queue to meet their children’s favorite Disney character when they visit the park. But it doesn’t have to be like that. There are better ways to meet up with the characters and without the queues. No, you don’t have to pay for an expensive meal either to see the characters at the dining tables, there are even better ways to greet and meet your favorites. While most people run to the parks and try to queue to meet Mickey and be with him for about a minute their is a better way to meet the Mouse! I always say a Disney visit isn’t only about the parks, there is a lot more to be seen. Yes, also at Disneyland Paris where you don’t have the extended resort area as you have in Walt Disney World. Most guest think everything happens at the parks only. But when it comes to meeting characters there might be better places to go to. (more…)
