35 years,.. and 1 day

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

CastleColin1.jpgIronically I could not go on the internet yesterday. Why is this such a big thing? Well yesterday was a very special day for us Disney fans. Walt Disney World celebrated its 35th birthday. So as I could not be online on the October 1st, I’ll celebrate today the 35th and 1 day anniversary.

Happy Birthday Walt Disney World. Wishing you many more celebrations to come.

Inside the Magic

Friday, September 15th, 2006

InsideTheMagic1.jpgEvery Monday it’s the same story, the weekend is over and it’s back to work: the first day of the week, a mountain of work and nothing much to look forwards too. Sounds like a typical Monday to most of us, unless you work the weekend or have irregular shifts.

So, how to improve the Monday? Easy, or at least it is for me. I come to the office, put on the PC and start working… but not before I open the Inside the Magic Podcast site. I check if the new podcast is live, click on the link and start listening under the headset. No Monday feeling anymore, I still have to work but with a little magic on my ears.

On Fire!

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

FirePbase1.jpgIf you would like to know how it feels to be a stuntman put on fire in the Disney MGM Studios Lights, Motors, Action!™ Extreme Stunt Show read this fun interview with Mike Sydnor, a fire-fighter turned Stunt man who loves to be put on fire.

“I’m more nervous being interviewed than sliding through fire,” he said. “Basically, all you feel is walking from air conditioning to the bright sun on a Florida day.”

When the time comes for Sydnor’s 10 seconds of fame, he does his stunt and the flames are quickly extinguished by the safety crew. But his enthusiasm still burns long after his moment in the spotlight has faded.

No more Millionaires at the Studios

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

Playit.jpg“Who Wants to be a Millionaire-Play It!” is closing today. The show has been in the park for only 5 years (it opened in April 7, 2001). Although not a big fan of the show I must admit I am happy that I experienced it live at the MGM studios before it closed.

“Midway Mania”, a dark ride featuring Pixar characters, is rumored to replace the show. Giving the MGM studios renaming rumor to Disney/PIXAR Studios another reason to become reality – although I still think it will not happen, but I could be wrong.

PIXAR Studios?

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

Tower1.jpgThe rumor that Disney MGM studios would loose its MGM name has been around for a while now but according to the current rumors and the new MGM project in Korea this could become reality very soon. A new name could be Disney Studios, which would make sense, but one rumor floating around is that the new name could be Disney/PIXAR Studios. (Source: Mousetunes). Remember, it is only a rumor, nothing is finalized.

Personally I would not like the PIXAR in the new title and I am making my predictions that it will not happen. It just doesn’t sound catchy enough and unfitting. I would think that Disney Studios will become the new name and that the PIXAR title will stay out of it. I am sure they could give enough reasons for putting the name in it but to me it sounds wrong. Most people will know and understand that PIXAR has become part of the Disney family and even with enough PIXAR inside the Studios park, no PIXAR title is needed to explain this to the guest. Then again, I could be wrong and the rumor could turn out right.

$67 a day

Monday, August 7th, 2006

PreviousDisneyTickets.jpgDisney has put their day ticket prices up for a second time in 1 year. Since this Sunday Walt Disney World tickets will cost you a staggering $67 per person.

“We’re doing this to meet the production needs of the travel industry,” Disney spokeswoman Jacquee Polak said today. (Chron.com)

Since 2004 ticket prices have been sky rocketing to a new high. From 2004 up to now Disney tickets have gone up with 22%

12 + 1 will be 13 years of ToT

Saturday, July 22nd, 2006

TOT12.jpgToday it has been 12 years ago since the opening of the Tower of Terror at Walt Disney World’s Disney MGM Studios. The tower opened in 1994 and is still a big hit today. With 4 different random sequences you never know what will “hit” you.

Have a “scary” 12th Birthday ToT, but I know you’re waiting to celebrate the big 13!

As mentioned in the past the 4 sequences might become a total of 13 scary drops to celebrate this event. We will see in 1 year if this rumor is indeed correct.

Boy Dies after riding Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

Friday, June 30th, 2006

Yesterday, another tragedy took place at Walt Disney world when a 12 year old boy died after riding the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

A boy from Kentucky riding Walt Disney World’s Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster slumped over during the ride and later died though his Army Green Beret father attempted to resuscitate him.

Disney closed the ride and asked the Florida Bureau of Fair Rides Inspection to assist in an inquiry. There was no indication Thursday that any equipment on the ride malfunctioned.

The death is the seventh in 18 months involving people stricken at Walt Disney World attractions, compared with two such deaths in the previous 18 months, according to state records. (Source: Orlando Sentinel)

No words will be able to take away the grief of the family but Our thoughts are with them.

Imagineering 101

Saturday, May 13th, 2006

Simon and Susan with EricSusan and I are just drawing breath again after the big International Pow-Wow travel convention in Orlando, which is America’s biggest annual travel trade forum, with all manner of conferences, media events, travel shows, exhibits, tours and receptions (plus the occasional party!). The focus is obviously only on the US – hotels, attractions, car hire, cities, travel organisations and more – but that is still a huge area of interest. And, as it was in Orlando, there was a big focus on Florida, and the theme parks. And that’s where our Encounter with an Imagineer came in.

Walt Disney World Bathrooms!

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

Restrooms-001.jpgWhat place do you have to visit at WDW that is unavoidable when walking in the park the whole day? It is the Bathroom of course. Most people don’t want to talk about it, while others dedicate a special place on the web to it. Go have a look at Cassworld you will find most of the bathrooms pictures from the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom. Weird? Maybe, but you’ll witness some beautiful decorations that might surprise you, especially when visiting the bathrooms in Animal Kingdom.

On the Disboard you’ll even find a topic about the Bathroom site. After the Bathroom web page has only been up for two days, the topic about it is 4 pages long already…

One Ride CAN make the difference!

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

Everest2.jpgExpedition Everest is a success! (already, even if the official opening date is 7th April) And it is a success not only for Disney but also for the guests loving Disney and its Theme parks. Animal Kingdom has been the park that could be found at the bottom on many peoples list. With Everest this has changed for sure. The park is crowded (during previews, and will be once Everest officially opens) with first time and returning visitors, all because of that one “special one of a kind ride”. No clone, no copy but a new experience. Sure, it is a roller coaster, no big massive drops, no records being broken, but the Yeti and the mountain giving it such a great appeal that everybody wants to see it… The benefits for Animal Kingdom are endless. More visitors is more business and more attention. Everest might be the attraction bringing in the guests, but how many will now stay longer and experience other rides, watch the parade, or even spend some extra on food while they are there? Good move from Disney? Best move ever! And they know it…

Two new “Cars” for MGM Studios

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

Disney/Pixar movie CarsOn DLP.Info we informed the Disney fans about the Cars parade, currently running in the MGM studios would “drive” its way into the Walt Disney Studios. Now rumors appeared that MGM would get a new parade as of 2007, making the rumors for Disneyland Resort Paris even more believable. Doesn’t mean they will not see anything new at the MGM studios as Screamscape reports that two new cars from the upcoming Disney/Pixar movie Cars will be added. The cars would start to run their engines during spring time. In that case the new cars would only run for 1 year over at Walt Disney World.
