Ups … another award

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Award season is in full swing and it is easy to miss one award (or even more) if you blink a bit too slow … that’s what happened to me. I only just realized that the Screen Actors Guild held its 13th Annual SCREEN ACTORS GUILD Awards ceremony past Sunday! And certainly Disney was able to garner some awards – if not that many.

In the field of “Theatrical Motion Pictures” the only award for The Walt Disney Company was won by Helen Mirren in the category Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her title part in the Miramax release “THE QUEEN”. Disney did fare a lot better in the section “Primetime Television” where the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series went to Chandra Wilson for her part as Dr. Miranda Bailey in ABC’s “GREY’S ANATOMY”. For the same show the whole ensemble was honored with the SAG award in the category Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, beating out amongst others the also nominated cast of ABC’s “BOSTON LEGAL”. In addition America Ferrera was able to win the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her part as Betty Suarez in ABC’s “UGLY BETTY”. And last but not least Julie Andrews, remembered by millions around the world as Disney’s Mary Poppins was honored with the Screen Actors Guild Awards 43rd Annual Life Achievement Award also handed over during the SAG award ceremonies.

If you want more information about “the award show where only actors vote for actors” take a look at the dedicated official website including the complete list of award winners. The site includes a special feature offering transcripts of all acceptance speeches complete with a photo of the winner on stage … certainly including Mary Poppins, I mean Julie Andrews.

Lost: The End

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

lostseries2dvd.jpgWhen writing on the blog I sometimes think about adding some “Lost” entries too. After all it is ABC’s best series (personal opinion), even if it didn’t win any Golden Globe awards. With so much Disney related babbling I am doing, Lost entries have not really been something I managed to do but the next little news did get my attention and I felt I wanted to share my thoughts on it.

‘Lost’ Will End … Sometime”… and it should. While many series tell stories about lives inside the “real” world that could go on until the viewer had enough or the actors want to stop I feel that Lost is a story that is about 1 certain chapter that has a beginning, a middle and an end. Dragging it into an ongoing series without an end in sight isn’t such a good idea, even if the ratings are good. The producers always said that they had a full story ready where the end is known. Making the story longer could only resolve in bad episodes or even damage the whole Lost idea.

And the Winner is… Cars!

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

carstrailerpict.jpgThe 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards has come to an end and Cars is one of the winners. The movie got the price for Best Animated Feature. The movie was up against Happy Feet and Monster House.

Johnny Depp did not win in the category Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical. This price went to Sacha Baron Cohen for his movie “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan”. I did not see the movie yet so I cannot judge it but I am a little surprised that Johnny Didn’t get this one.

ABC also shared in the prizes. Grey’s Anatomy (Best TV drama) and Ugly Betty (Best TV comedy, Best Performance by Actress) where among the winners. Lost didn’t get to take a globe home…

The Disney Web, Piracy, and the Power of the “Lost” Fans

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

cesofficialweb.jpgRobert Iger spoke at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas where he previewed the new revamped Disney.com web site with improved navigation, build in Video option, and the Xtreme Digital feature where children can surf the web, watch videos, play games and chat with friends at the same time without parents to worry about some content found on other sites.

Iger also addressed the Piracy problems where he mentioned that it is the industry that can help prevent this curse by setting a balanced between price and the product that would make piracy less interesting.

And the 64th Golden Globe Award Nominees are…

Friday, December 15th, 2006

goldenglobeweb.jpgThe Nominees for the Golden Globe Awards are known and the Disney Company is doing well. Some of the nominations are for the following (together with my personal thoughts on the chances to win it);

Best performance by an actor in a motion picture – comedy or musical; Johnny Depp for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead man’s Chest. Personally I think he makes a good chance of winning this title even with the other names in this category.

Lost in Disney Theme Parks

Friday, September 29th, 2006

Kim-Yun-jinFanC1.jpgLost has been a top series for 2 seasons now and with the third season starting in October fans will be glued to their TV sets again. (I know I will be).

When you’re one of the actors other doors open and, while already working for the mouse in some extends (Lost being an ABC show and ABC being owned by the Disney Company), it is no surprise more opportunities will bring you closer to the mouse.

One of the actors, the very talented Kim Yun-jin (aka: Yoon-jin Kim – playing Sun Kwon), will do some extra work for the mouse, although it doesn’t really sound like work but more like fun.
