New European Home Port for Disney Cruise Ship?

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

Could it be that once the fourth ship is ready to set sails, one of the Disney Cruise ships might get its own home port in Europe? According to some rumors this might happen. On board of the Disney Dream is a hint on a rug or carpet that this could be the case for the Disney Magic Cruise ship. On a picture taken on the new Disney Dream you can see the ports for the 4 ships. The two new cruise ships, The Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy are shown in their Florida port, while the Disney Wonder is shown in Long Beach California as its new home. This leaves a third star on the picture at Europe, possibly France. Starting as from 2012 the Disney Magic could be sailing on Europe itineraries only.

Sunday Treat for animation fans & scholars

Sunday, November 21st, 2010

It’s only the final Sunday before Thanksgiving – however, I just discovered a treat I had to share and couldn’t wait with any longer… some of you may have noticed the TAG blog in the blogroll on the right hand side, the official blog of The Animation Guild 839. The blog not only covers the activities of the guild that has organized amongst others the animators of the big animation power houses around Hollywood including the feature and tv animation of Disney. Instead the blog also offers news and insights from the world of animation – including lively discussions in the comments involving the artists that creat the pieces of magic enchanting us all on the big screen. Certainly there is more to this post than some general heaping of praise on the TAG blog. In fact, I wanted to point you all to a post from the past Wednesday which kicks off a new series on the TAG blog with audio interviews conducting by guild officials with selected animation artists. Let the Memories Begin

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Disney has announced their new campaign “Let the Memories Begin” via live feed from New York. Tom Staggs, Chairman of the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, presented the campaign via this live feed that has just ended. The campaign will feature guests that will share their Disney memories inside the park and by using other media.

from press release

Disney PhotoPass photographers will capture guests caught up in the Disney experience – a memory in the making – and as many as 500 photos will be used in each location every day, producers estimate.

The nighttime show will use the latest in high-intensity projection technology to create vivid visuals that seem to defy the architecture of the building. A new song commissioned for the show will provide an emotional context for these images of the Disney guest experience.

Small World in California and the Cinderella Castle in Walt Disney World will be the canvas for the projected pictures.

The new campaign is already presented on the Disney site too.

Harry Potter is Moving back to London

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

It looks like Harry Potter is moving back to London, England where the movies where taped. According to the news the film studios in Leavesden will be transformed to a real haven for the Harry Potter fan. No need to fly accross the ocean to visit Harry Potter in the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter in the Universal Studios Orlando anymore. Although the attractions will not be the same and the castle in the sunny Orlando weather might just look that “little bit” nicer too.

Warner Brothers will invest 82 million Euro for the new attractions. Work on the attraction could start this year. The rumors has been there before but according to the Daily Mail the project is now been given the green light. It was Rupert Grint, who played the character Ron Weasly in the movies, that spilled the news during a greet and meet event.

Industry Trade Show Settles in Orlando

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

The yearly IAAPA or The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Trade Show will be held in Orlando for the next 10 years. While the show did go to other locations in the past, including Las Vegas, it did have shows planned in Orlando for the years with even numbers. Now the people behind the trade show and IAAPA decided to settle for Orlando every year, booking the convention center for the years with uneven numbers too. Bad news for Las Vegas, where some of these shows where planned to take place. (Via Orlando Sentinel)

The Trade show is the biggest show related to the amusement park and ride industry.

More offers for those stuck in Orlando

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

The flights in Europe are resuming but airlines expect it to take several days till regular operations will be fully established and all guests that were impacted by the air service interruption forced by the volcanic ash will finally be moved to their original destinations. In other words: there are still thousands of toruists worldwide stuck away from home. For those stuck in Orlando respectively the Orlando area the Tourism Bureau has collected a list of special offers as we already reported on Tuesday. In the meantime the list maintained by the bureau has grown substantially with new offers. And certainly there is something new for everyone interested in theme parks …

It all started with SeaWorld giving away free tickets for SeaWorld Orlando, Aquatica Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. In the usual game of reactions in the Orlando theme park business Disney matched the offer by SeaWorld and started offering free tickets as well (even so the offer was limited to just two dates). The only one missing in the game was the Universal Resort. But no need to be afraid – just as the three major theme park players react to each other’s price increases, Universal did react to the free theme park ticket offer for stuck international guests as well …

SeaWorld Trainer Killed

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

In what seems to be an accidental death a 16 year veteran SeaWorld trainer has died during one of the live shows in SeaWorld. The victum is identified as 40 year old Dawn Brancheau. Investigation is under way to find out the cause of the incident. According to first witnesses the trainer was pulled into the water by one of the killer whales who then started to shake her violently forth and back. It was Tilikum a nearly 30-year-old, 12,300-pound bull orca who dragged Dawn into the water. This was the third death cause by Tilikum. In 1991 he was blamed for a 1991 drowning of a trainer in Sealand of the Pacific in British Columbia and in 1999 a death body of a man was found lying across his back.

The Mousekingdom Blog team would like to express their condolences to the  family, friends and all the co-workers at Seaworld.

More about the incident on Orlando Sentinel.

Just Like Walt Disney World…

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

TwinnedTownWhile I don’t think there is anything like Walt Disney World, it was still a fun competition where you could enter your home town to become Walt Disney World very first Twin Town. Twin your town with Walt Disney World and get a trip paid to Florida to visit Walt Disney World to celebrate the twinning. Now that was a great prize you could get. The lucky winner is Rebecca Warren who convinced the judges with her video entry for Swindon in Withshire.

Rebecca won over the judges with the  fun video you can see on the Walt Disney World Twinned Town website. She will visit WDW in January to celebrate the twinning while Swindon will be honoured in the United Kingdom Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase during 2010. Congratulations Rebecca, and send us a post card please while you enjoy your stay in Walt Disney World.

Captain EO’s Come Back

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

CaptEO-LogoIf rumors are correct we might not only get Captain EO to return in Disneyland, but also in Walt Disney World’s Epcot. An Epcot re-release of the movie might be ready for the summer of 2010. Fans in Japan can also be happy.

If rumors are correct the Oriental Land Company is talking with Disney to come to an agreement for the movie to be shown in Tokyo too. If indeed correct, a release for 2010 could be a possibility. (Via Screamscape)

More Guests for Disneyland

Monday, November 16th, 2009

DCA-closeUpGood guest attendance at Anaheim’s Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure, even with the economic downturn it’s 15% up compared to the numbers from the same last quarter of the previous fiscal year. Walt Disney World lost about 3% in visitors during the same time period.

The hotels are also seeing a drop, loosing 4% compared to last year. This translates in 84% occupancy for the Disneyland hotels in Anaheim, the same number as the Disney hotels in Florida.

Disney parks and resorts revenues has gone down by 7% to a total of $10.7 billion in the recent fiscal year compared to the prior year.
