Disney… I miss you

Epcot15

Hello to all Disney fans around the globe. It has been a while, but as you can see on the title… I missed it. Am I back? I hope so as I do miss talking about Disney, especially the parks. With one, maybe even two, trips in to Walt Disney World the planning I thought it would be a good time to try and revive this blog. It might take a while… it will take a while, but I am sure with your help and support we could return to our former self.

Castle15So, where have I been all this time? I wish I could say at a Disney park, but most of the time that is not so. Although, during my absence from the blog, I did visit Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris. Even so, I still miss Disney at this time. And I am sure I will not be the only one. So let’s talk Disney shall we.

See you on the blog and make sure to like us on facebook and follow us on twitter too.

Universal Ticket Prices UP

Monday, May 20th, 2013

rogueatioa.jpgUniversal Orlando has raised their day tickets up to $92 for a one day, one park ticket. With this they are the first park to ask above the $90 and are now “only” $8 away from a three digit ticket price. It will come sooner as you will want to.

Other ticket combinations also changed. For example a one ticket, two parks will now set you back $128

Normally, when one of the big players in Orlando raises their ticket price, the other players are not far behind. If this trend continues we might see Walt Disney World and SeaWorld do the same in the very near future. A Walt Disney World one day tickets cost you $89 at the moment.

Sometimes I wonder how they calculate their increasing as they are certainly not following your regular inflation. For those that like some history; in 1971, when Walt Disney World opened, a ticket to the Magic Kingdom would set you back $3.50. (although you did need to buy extra tickets for the attractions. These where Adventures Books and started at $4.50 for 7 tickets)

A Little More MyMagic+

Tuesday, January 8th, 2013

A little more information is leaking regarding the MyMagic+ wristbands. Walt Disney World Hotel bookers and Annual passes will get the bands at no extra costs but the future plan is to have all guests wear a wristbands with the RFID integrated.

The wristbands will be available in different colors or themes. Some of these Disney themes can be from a Pirates of the Caribbean, some of the Pixar characters, Disney princesses and many more. It is also rumored that there could be some special wristbands done by other companies like Dooney & Burke and Swarovski and for those that don’t like wearing anything around their wrist there might be alternatives coming in the form of keychains and other jewelry.

MyMagic+

Monday, January 7th, 2013

Disney has made it official, the Next-gen technology will be introduced soon under “MyMagic+” for the Walt Disney World resort. With this new tool Disney guests will be able to create their Disney vacation from the comfort of their own home. Guest will be able to use a new website “My Disney Experience” where they will be able to book dinner reservations and other Disney experiences. There will also be an option to book a selection of FastPass+ to avoid not only the lines at the attractions but also a visit to the FasPass booths.

The FastPass+ option will not only include attractions but will have Character meet and greet, preferred firework and parade viewing place and other options. The firework and Parade option could be your key to make sure to see your favorites from a dedicated space every time you want. (I know I’ll be booking Illuminations on many nights once available).

To be able to take advantage of all the early bookings guest will be provided a special RFID wristband named “MagicBand”. This wristband will serve as your hotel room key, park admission, the FastPass+ pre-booked options, your personal photopass and will even have an integrated payment option. The later one might come with a code once spending will reach a certain amount. This to protect the owners in case they would loose their wristband and to avoid those dishonest guests from plundering your account.

With the personal information saved on your wristband character will now also be able to know your name and use it when you visit them. Imagine the faces of the children when talking Mickey comes up to them and knows their names. This might not be for integrated in the early phase of the project, but one that is sure one of the many future options that will find it’s way into the system.

There is no specific date yet when the MyMagic+ will completely take over, but it is slowly finding it ways into the park as some guests already have been part of the testing phase.

Also read the WDWnewstoday article. They where the first to bring out this exciting news. Also visit the Disneyparks blog for some more pictures.

Universal vs. Disney: The Tolkien Round!

Saturday, January 5th, 2013

Universal did it again! At least if these rumors are indeed correct as no official announcements are made yet. Universal gets the rights to build the Lord of the Ring attractions in their park. This is yet another fantastic move that will bring over even more people to the parks. Harry Potter already proofed success and with Lord of the Rings they will do it again. This franchise is so big, popular and timeless that guest numbers for the park will grow for sure.

Queues for the Harry Potter attractions are stupendously long and will get even bigger once the second phase is in place. Once Lords of the Rings and the Hobbit will make it to the park another big fan followers will find their way to the Universal Studios getting those visitor numbers way up. Orlando visitors will need to find a way to see all the stuff and while their holiday might not get extended, a visit to Universal might. As guest might have to find that extra day for Universal, this could cost Disney some visitors.

OK, Disney just got the big Star Wars deal, the new Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World, the rumored Carsland for Hollywood Studios and… Avatar for Animal Kingdom. Fantasyland is already proofing to be a success for Disney and depending on their Star Wars plans will have another crowd pleaser. As long as it will be spectacular and the Imagineers get to do something with it. Avatar is still another story in my honest opinion. Avatar might still see two more movies and although this will keep the franchise alive, it is in no way as timeless as Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.

Never the less, it is exciting to see how the theme parks are creating new wonderful stuff. The Lord of the Rings deal will make Disney work their hardest to bring out their best of the best and the real winners are we, the fans and the guests.

Make sure to visit us regularly as we will report on all the new Orlando area park stuff once we know more.

WDW Planning Part 1: How Far Do You Plan in Advance?

Saturday, July 14th, 2012

When it comes to a Disney trip, planning is part of the fun. It not only give you that knowledge you’ll be going, but you will have some Disney magic going for you before the trip itself. Most trips might get planned a couple of months in advanced, but when it comes to a Walt Disney World trip, planning can start a lot earlier. Sometimes over a year in advance! At least that’s how I work when it comes to planning a WDW trip.

First question of course is when to go. In my family’s case options are limited because of school time. So our trip needs to be molded around that for most of the time. That gives us two options for our next trip.

Option one; A trip during Christmas and New year 2013/2014.

Option two; A trip starting from the middle of June 2014.

No, no! Those dates are correct. Our next family trip will be somewhere in 2013 and/or 2014. Is that planning it to far ahead? It looks far away and one might feel a little sad if you still have to wait that long but when you look at it from the bright side, with this early planning, I’ll be having a lot of fun.

So there are 2 possible dates as I mentioned before. This could be the last two weeks of December and a week in January or it could be the last two weeks on June and the first week in July. Both dates have their advantages and disadvantages. Heavy Christmas crowds can be a little daunting but you’ll be away from the summer heat while early summer period will still be low on crowds (US schools still in session, but the heat might already be a struggle. Of course there are other things to look at but these are just a couple of examples. Although we love the Christmas time (our last trip was during the holidays), the second option looks like the one we will go for this time.

So what do I plan so far in advance (once we set the date)? Although you can’t book a hotel yet looking at the locations where to stay is one of the first things I do for my family and me. As we are Disney Vacation Club Members it is also a bit of a given that this takes place so far in advance. We need to make sure to book at the 11 month window, otherwise we might not be able to get the room we want. So this is a good reason to start booking so early. Or maybe it is just another excuse to start planning over a year in advance. The hotels are a part of the Disney Magic, so it can happen that we do some Hotel hopping and stay at different resort. I would love to stay a couple of days at the new Disney’s Art of Animation resort. Just to see and experience it as it looks great. Another place I would love to stay at is either the Disney’s Beach Club Villas or the Disney’s Board Walk Villas. I love that erea and it would give me easy access to my favorite park with my favorite show; Epcot and Illuminations. But our main home resort is Old Key West, so it is no surprise that this one will be the one we will stay at the longest. Will I do have some Disney’s Animal Kingdom Vacation Club point too, we might use these for another location this time around.

More in Part two!

We Are Back

Saturday, July 14th, 2012

It has been a while since you’ve seen an update here but as you can see we are back in action.

So what happened? Why where we gone?

Well, we had to fight some technical difficulties on the blog that had forced it into a complete black-out.

It took a while to find the error, but as you can see the Mousekingdom blog is back on-line. Unfortunately we did loose some date, but that will not stop us from adding new stuff.

So if you like Walt Disney, Disney Parks, Disney movies and anything else related to the world of Disney (and more), brace yourself as we are ready for GO!…

Trip Diaries Day One: Doesn’t Have to Start with Disney

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

Ready for the trip report of our WDW Christmas and New Year trip? Well here it is. I hope you’ll enjoy it and will be back for more updates.

Our first full day started early at the Villas of Grand Cyprus. No, not a Disney hotel to start our trip, but it doesn’t always have to be Disney now does it… Well, as a Disney fan it could of course and this being a Disney blog the rest might not be so interesting. So let’s make this first day short. The Villas of Grand Cyprus are an amazing hotel though. Great for Golf fanatic as it won many awards (and rightly so as it looks amazing).

We started our day very early with breakfast at 7am. Well, that’s jetlag for you. After breakfast we went for an early swim. It was warm enough and we weren’t even the first one at the pool. This was pretty much the setting of our first day. Relaxing! Swim, Lunch, play some golf (it is a golf hotel so it would be a shame not to hit some balls), swim some more and dinner.

Dinner was great. Got myself an amazing fruit bowl. I know some people think it’s a funny choice, but I enjoyed this healthy choice. With some more jetlag to battle we called it an early night as tomorrow would be our first day at Disney.

Info: Because of internet issues at Disney with my PC live updates are not possible. As I am at Vero Beach right now expect some updates about the trip. The rest on my return home

Happy Birthday Walt Disney World

Saturday, October 1st, 2011

Let’s go and have a look in time to see what happened over 40 years ago, before October 1st 1971. It all started in 1964 when Disney starts to buy land in Florida under fictional names. The first land was bought on April 15th 1964 and a final large plot of land was purchased on June 18th 1964. While Disney tried to keep it as secret as possible rumors of the East Coast Disneyland started to emerge as from May 4th 1965. On November 15th 1965 Disney formally launches the new Disney World project, a name that changed on December 17th 1966 to Walt Disney World. On may 30th 1967 the land is being prepped for the project. The Compact East Corp. becomes Walt Disney World Company on September 26th 1967 and is incorporated in Florida on May 22nd 1968. On April 30th 1969 is Walt Disney Worlds very first official press event for the resort and on April 6th 1971 the general public has the chance to see the almost completed WDW for the first time in Look magazine. On September 30th Walt Disney World’s preview center closes and on October 1st 1971 the Walt Disney World park opens to the public.

Some newspapers had predicted 200.000 people would turn up but only about 10.000 people visited the Magic Kingdom on the very first day. A small amount of people for such a big event, but the gates to the park especially opened during off season to avoid an firs day with an overcrowded park. Like this WDW had the time to find the problems and bugs and made sure they would be fully operational by the next big holiday. By the end of the first month 400.000 guest had visited the park and on November 26th 1971, one day after thanksgiving, the park was packed with 50.000 guest. Walt Disney World was a success.

Today, on October 1st 2011, we celebrate a special birthday for the Walt Disney World Resort. A big 40 years of success, magic and fun in a fantastic place we all love so much. Happy Birthday Walt Disney World!

New Show or New Location for Cirque du Soleil (Update)

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Sometimes a single sign can get you to start thinking. What would you think if you pass a room while walking through Disney’s Grand Californian hotel and notice that at the door of the room is a sign saying “WDI / Cirque du Soleil Meeting”. Lance from Screamscape saw this while visiting Disneyland in Anaheim, took a picture and placed it on twitpic. Let the rumors begin! Could it be that Cirque will get another theater in Disneyland, or is it a meeting to change the show in Walt Disney World? Both of these option have been rumors in the past, but we will not know as Walt Disney Imagineering will not let us find out. Not long after the picture of the sign got live on the web, the sign was removed and replaced with a generic one.

Good find from Screamscape. I can only hope they will not replace the La Nouba show as we still want to go and see it.

UPDATE: According to the latest update on Screamscape the meeting was for a new show in Hong Kong.

Grimm Fairy Tales in Walt Disney World (update)

Saturday, April 16th, 2011

I love Disney parks, love them! It’s one of the two hobby’s I have that I enjoy every single day. What is the other hobby? Comics! Love them too. So when you put them together I totally geek out. When Marvel came part of Disney I got really excited and could only see (hope) good things. Now there are a lot of other companies out there making some great stuff. One of them is Zenescope who have a monthly Grimm Fairy Tales comic book. Almost every month Zenescope bring out a couple of variant editions. A lot of the time these variants are related with Comic Conventions.

The latest convention edition will be the Megacon convention. This convention takes took place in Orange County Convention Center in Orlando as from February 17 to 19th 2012. Especially for this convention 2 variant covers of Zenescope will be offered. What is so special about these that we have to mention them on a Disney blog. Well, let the covers speak for themselves.
