Relaxing Inside the WDW Parks

TTApeoplemover

It can be overwhelming visiting the Walt Disney World parks. Busy crowds, long queues, hot weather (or big wet showers).  You can avoid it by staying at the hotel pools, but if you are at Walt Disney World you just want to hit the parks. Even if they are busy.
So what to do if you really, REALLY want to relax and still be inside the parks. It is possible!

River1How about we start in the Magic Kingdom. What is more relaxing than the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover. A nice 10 minute ride around Tomorrowland and it includes some great views of the beautiful Cinderella Castle. You can ride it early in the morning, or try to board it at night during the fireworks. That gives it an extra dimension. Who knows, if you’re lucky, like I was on my last visit, it might break down on the right spot and you can see the whole firework show from the best spot. Another relaxing ride, but a little more crowded, is the Walt Disney World Railroad. Ride around the park and relax. Or if the water is more relaxing your alternative for a relaxing ride will be the Liberty Square Riverboat. (more…)

Disney Vacation Club’s new Headquarters

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

One who loves the Disney live might well be, or consider, living in Celebration. This town, not to far of Walt Disney World and created by Disney, might be the dream home for many Disney fans. Like every town expansion is something that happens once and a while, no difference for Celebration.

On the Celebration Blvd, there is one of those construction sites. On this new construction site, near LaRosa and the Medical Building, a new building is going to be the new Corporate Headquarters for the Disney Vacation Club. The contractor is Duke, who already worked on the Celebration Business Center.

Although our source is reliable, as far as we know there has been no known official word from Disney regarding this project yet. Any other information always welcome.

New Walt Disney World Projects and impact on Celebrations “Island Village”

Saturday, March 3rd, 2007

The Walt Disney Company has announced expansion plans for the Walt Disney World resort. Two new big projects will see the day of light. The first and biggest one will be the 900-acre location at the northeast border of the World, where Disney plans to convert Eagle Pines and Osprey Ridge golf courses into a luxury resort that will house the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, including a golf community.

The residents of Celebration have been informed with an official mail by Disney about these changes and the impact it would have on another project that was in development by the Celebration Company. There are plans of a new project “Island Village” that, if the mutual terms are met regarding the above project, will not see the day of light as it was intensely planned. No replacement plans for “Island Village” are on the table but the company is looking into alternatives and is inviting its key members, the home owners of Celebration, to give their input on the situation and to make sure the development of “Island Village” will be able to continue.

Go with the Flow

Friday, November 24th, 2006

gowiththeflowyoutube.jpgThere is a nice 1.23 minute video of the new Finding Nemo Musical show at Animal Kingdom on YouTube.

The “Go with the Flow” song out of the show looks great. Beware; this is a spoiler, in case you want it to be a surprise, don’t watch the video.

Can’t wait until your next Walt Disney World visit (like me), have fun watching the video…

And the Winner is: Expedition Everest

everestmagicinpixels.jpgWhen the Disney Imagineers get the chance to create something they sure do it right…

The Themed Entertainment Association named Expedition Everest: Legend of the Forbidden Mountain of Disney’s Animal Kingdom winner of the 2006 THEA Award for Outstanding Attraction. The prestigious award goes to Walt Disney Imagineering, the creative design organization that created and developed the attraction. (From LaughingPlace via The Disney Blog)

Contemporary DVC Wing

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

DVCnewScreamscape.jpgDisney Vacation Club is always growing and a rumored new wing at the Walt Disney World‘s Contemporary hotel, on the monorail route next to the Magic Kingdom, could be the next addition.

While Disney likes to keep secrets as long as possible an architect firm had a couple of pictures posted on their website (before they where removed again). Screamscape.com posted them on their website giving the rumor extra credibility.

Catch a Wave at Typhoon Lagoon

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

SurfPoolOS1.jpgTyphoon Lagoon is one of my favorite places in Walt Disney World. Every WDW visit includes at least one visit to this water park. One of my favorite attractions is the lazy river Castaway Creek, but I’ve always been intrigued by the Surf Pool’s early morning Surfing lessons (I used to do some windsurfing in a previous life).

If you would like to find out if the Surf Experience is something for you check out this write up on a First Surf Lesson experience.

The first wave washes under me, I let it pass and wait for the second smaller wave that is recommended for beginners. The instructor pushes me into the second wave as I quickly replay the steps in my head. I jump into the squat, but instead of landing on the board, I jump right into the water, the surfboard still in my hands.

Luckily, the only injury was my pride. (Orlando Sentinel)

MMmm… Maybe I’ll stick to the Lazy River :-)

Disney Pictures and E-cards

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

PicParade1.jpgHow often do you send E-cards? I must admit that I haven’t sent one for ages. But would it not be fun to get one? Sure, especially when you can send them from a collection of over 5000 pictures to choose from. Even better, they are pictures taken by many Disney fans, collected to share with everybody on the web. Search or browse the pictures and send a card to one of your friends.

How does it work? Easy, all you need is a free (yes, as in no cost at all) account. Once you’re logged in you can send a card. Where do you have to go? Just visit ClickMagique PicParade!

PicParade2.jpgBut there is more than just sending E-cards. Once you have your account (remember, it is free) you can add up to 50MB worth of pictures. Picture added; name it, comment on it and see how people give marks to it. You can also use them linked in forums or websites, or use ClickMagique PicParade just to keep track of your best Disney pictures.

If you want to share your Disney pictures this is the right place as, up to now, over 450000 times the pictures have been viewed so far.

So what is stopping you? ClickMagique PicParade wants your Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disney Resort, Disneyland Resort Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland pictures! Add them now (did I mention it was free).

No more Pin Trading Events at the hotels

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

DisneyPinWeb1.jpgFor some, Pin trading is part of a Disney holiday while there are others who still wonder what the collectors see in this little pieces of metal. I do collect them myself but narrowed it down to Halloween and the once I like. I used to try to get more, but as I cannot be at the parks all the time missed out on the once I collected or wanted and started to cut down. Sure, Ebay is a place to go if you want to get some, but with some of the prices being doubled I could not bring myself to buying them. As I wanted to keep it fun I now get what I like on my trip, with Halloween being the main interest.

It looks like I am not the only one thinking like this as Disney decided to end most of their pin trading events in the Walt Disney World Hotels. Although Disney doesn’t say why they end the events but they do admit that he number of visitors was going down.

Soarin over America

Monday, July 17th, 2006

Soarin1.jpgIf rumors are correct Soarin in Epcot might be given a new movie as from 2008. The rumors of a movie, to replace the one shown now, have been circulating on the web since they started building Soarin. There where rumors about a Florida movie even before the opening of the Soarin version at Epcot.

The new rumor however talks about a movie called; Soarin over America. I am sure, if this rumor is indeed correct, we will get to see some great scenery from the US, but I would also have liked a movie about the whole world (with Epcot’s World Showcase just around the corner), including a birds views of all Disney Castles around the globe as a final scene.

Illuminations on the blog

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

IlluminationsTim.jpgIlluminations at Epcot, I love it and have watched it several times in 2003 and 2005. So I do love some good pictures of it too (as I already mentioned in a previous blog entry). When checking the web for more pictures I came across Tim Devine’s Disney Photo blog and had to make a request to add an Illuminations Picture after his return from Walt Disney World. My request was granted and a great picture added. (Thank you for that Tim).

If you like pictures of Walt Disney World visit the blog to find some great photographical memories.

Welcome Home…

Friday, July 14th, 2006

SaratogaIntercot1.jpgWell, I am back from my holiday, so nothing much to be happy about… But only a couple of hours after I returned I got a phone call from the timeshare store. There was a 50 point contract for Saratoga Springs available!

Like I said, “was”, as it is no longer available after I agreed to buy it. Now it’s waiting for the contract and then I can start planning on my Disney Vacation as a Disney Vacation Club Owner…

Not to bad for a “home coming”, but I can’t wait for my “Welcome Home” at Disney thought. Didn’t think it would be so fast after I placed my request about 2-3 weeks ago. Still have to wait as Disney can use their “Right of First Refusal”, but I am confident they will not do this…

Pirate movie success, why now?

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

Cutthroat1.jpgDid they ever think that the first movie “The Pirates of the Caribbean; The Curse of the Black Pearl” would be the success it was? Or that the second movie, “Pirates of the Caribbean; Dead Man’s Chest” would break all these records? What where they thinking in the first place making a pirate movie… How did they ever come to the idea that a pirate movie, even if taken from a very popular attraction at the Disney Resorts worldwide, would become the biggest movies of all time (or at least is going into the right direction to become the biggest movie ever)?

Looking at the history of Pirate movies how could they have been sure it would work? Why this questions? Well I just finished watching “Cutthroat Island” and was wondering how this movie from 1995 never became the success Carolco Pictures had hoped for (Because of this movie they even had to file for bankruptcy).

The Pirates go for GOLD

Monday, July 10th, 2006

DisneyNowPlayingPirates.jpgIt has been done, the Spider-Man record of the box opening weekend grossing $114.8 million has been broken. The Pirates of the Caribbean ‘Dead Man’s Chest’ has set the record on an incredible estimated $132 million opening weekend total. But that is not the only record it broke. It is the first movie to make $100 in just two days of playing. Analyst predicted high numbers but even Jerry Bruckheimer didn’t expect them to look like this.

“When people in the industry predicted these high numbers, I thought they were just trying to be mean. So no matter how good we did, if we did $100 million, we’d be failures,” Bruckheimer said Sunday. “I didn’t think we’d get near these numbers.” (source: CNN.com)

The “new” Pirates at Walt Disney World

Monday, July 3rd, 2006

PiratesInsideMagic1.jpgWalt Disney World’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” new animatronics of Jack Sparrow has found its way to the internet. A soft opening on the 1st of July was enough for the “Inside the Magic” website crew to get a really good video of the ride and the new inhabitants. The video will show you a lot of the new parts of the ride. In case you don’t like spoilers or want to be surprised on your next visit, don’t watch it, but if you can’t wait (like me) click on the link and enjoy the ride, the new faces and some of the new soundtrack….
