And the Winner is… Cars!

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

carstrailerpict.jpgThe 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards has come to an end and Cars is one of the winners. The movie got the price for Best Animated Feature. The movie was up against Happy Feet and Monster House.

Johnny Depp did not win in the category Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical. This price went to Sacha Baron Cohen for his movie “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan”. I did not see the movie yet so I cannot judge it but I am a little surprised that Johnny Didn’t get this one.

ABC also shared in the prizes. Grey’s Anatomy (Best TV drama) and Ugly Betty (Best TV comedy, Best Performance by Actress) where among the winners. Lost didn’t get to take a globe home…

Dad Sparrow

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

If you like your exclusives then check out this picture from of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, Martin Klebba as Marty and Keith Richards as Sparrow’s swashbuckling dad from the set of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. (as you can see it is now called “World’s” instead of Worlds, the new official name of the movie)

EPIC Movie (Pirates vs. Narnia vs. X-Men, vs. Charlie vs Harry Potter vs. Superman…)

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

What do you get when you put scenes from Disney movies like “Pirates of the Caribbean; Dead Men’s Chest” and “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” together in a movie with characters from “Superman Returns”, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, the Harry Potter” movies, the X-Men and a whole lot of other big budget movies personalities?

And the 64th Golden Globe Award Nominees are…

Friday, December 15th, 2006

goldenglobeweb.jpgThe Nominees for the Golden Globe Awards are known and the Disney Company is doing well. Some of the nominations are for the following (together with my personal thoughts on the chances to win it);

Best performance by an actor in a motion picture – comedy or musical; Johnny Depp for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead man’s Chest. Personally I think he makes a good chance of winning this title even with the other names in this category.

Pirates of the Caribbean 3: Movie Shots

Monday, December 4th, 2006

New pictures of “Pirates of the Caribbean: at Worlds End” has found its way on the internet showing the “look” of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) and Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) in this installment of the (first?) trilogy. You’ll already get the “Asian” feeling of this part, especially when you see the costume used for Elizabeth.

Plundering Pirates!

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

piratesii-dvd.jpgThe Pirates plundering DVD record in the UK as the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest already sold 1.5 million copies in a week’s time. Disney even placed an extra order of 1 million to get to the UK.

The DVD started selling on the 20th November in the UK and some other European countries. The US release is for 5th December.

Disney is convinced Pirates would sell 3 million copies in the UK by the end of the year.

Will Turner, R.I.P.

Thursday, October 12th, 2006

BloomPirates.jpgWith Pirates of the Caribbean II still fresh in everybody’s mind and the third one not out before next year there are already rumors floating around about the 4th movie.

No deals are being made yet (Although I think we can be pretty sure of part 4 and more) but the latest rumor was that one of the characters would not survive to play in the second rumored trilogy.

Will Turner, the character played by Orlando Bloom, would not return.

Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy on DVD

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

PiratesII-imdb.jpgCould you wait until Christmas 2007 before you would by the Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy DVD? That is still a long way away for the Pirates fan! But don’t worry, you can also buy the single or Double Collector’s edition Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest before the box date.

How many fans will buy the DVD of the second movie and will then again by the trilogy box in 2007? I think many will do so, because let’s be honest… who can wait to own that masterpiece on DVD.

Where is the Black Pearl now?

Friday, September 1st, 2006

BlackPearlCoolNews1.jpgPirates 2 and 3 where filmed back to back… partly! So at this time more filming is done for the third part of this trilogy in the making. Over at Ain’t it Cool News they have some pictures of the Black Pearl in Redondo Beach.

It also says points out how Johnny Depp makes time to meet his fans for autographs and pictures. This is something I appreciate a lot, even if I can’t be there to meet him myself it is nice to hear that there are big celebrities like Johnny Depp that are so close to their fans.

$1 billion Pirate!

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

PiratesMapDisney1.jpgThe pirates are popular and Disney will be very happy about this for sure, especially when they see the $ sign with a big number behind it. With the movie released worldwide the $1 Billion target is getting closer, but will be reached very soon as the latest number is  $963.2 million. Not to bad for a movie filled with naughty people. With figures like that and Johnny Depp already mentioned that he would like to make more pirate movies there is a big chances we will get more after the 3rd one. They would not let a chance like that slip true their fingers… would they?

“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” the foreign box office champ for the past eight weekends, has helped Walt Disney Co. pass the $1 billion mark overseas for a 12th consecutive year.

You can find more info on the Reuters site: “Pirates” propels Disney to $1 billion overseas

It’s a Pirates Ship… eh, Car for Captain Jack Sparrow

Monday, August 28th, 2006

PirateCar1.jpgIt will be a little while before we get to see the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie. May 2007 to be specific, but until then we already have some pictures of the new movie to share… it’s Johnny Depp in full costume and his new black pearl on four wheels.

Actually it is a picture taken while Johnny goes to the set for the third movie. Not only does he use a modern car, but also a small transfer boat towards the “real” black pearl at the Disney Studios behind the Hollywood Hills in Burbank.

Pirates of the Caribbean 3 – Pictures and Spoilers

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

PotC-III-1.jpgPirates of the Caribbean 3 will not be out until May 25, 2007 (if they keep this release date) but with the Pirates 2 and 3 filmed at the same time pictures are already floating around the web. One of the pictures was pointed out by Inside the Magic (Podcast Show 69 – A really good Disney podcast). The picture comes from the site Cache Online but seems to be the one distributed on the web the most. On the Inside the Magic Forum they are discussing if this picture is genuine or a fake. If this would be a fake, whoever did the photoshop is very good as it does look very good and very real.

PotC-III-2.jpgPotC-III-3.jpgThe second picture (linked in the same forum) gives us a clearer look of what Jack (Johnny Depp) would be wearing in the third Pirates movie. It seems he likes to dress to the occasion. When looking around the web I found another similar picture on, a Japanese website (so I have no idea what they are talking about). Here you can see Jack Sparrow drawing his sword. The pictures seem to be in sequence of each other.

Living the pirates live… on a private Island

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

JDisland.jpgWhile the Pirates of the Caribbean; Dead Man’s Chest is breaking all the records ($300 million in 16 days, $500 million already world Wide, nr 1 movie of 2006) Johnny Depp is looking for a little more of the pirates live. Together with his family he will be living on an island he bought back in 2004, dividing his time between living there, in France and in the US.

Pirate movie success, why now?

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

Cutthroat1.jpgDid they ever think that the first movie “The Pirates of the Caribbean; The Curse of the Black Pearl” would be the success it was? Or that the second movie, “Pirates of the Caribbean; Dead Man’s Chest” would break all these records? What where they thinking in the first place making a pirate movie… How did they ever come to the idea that a pirate movie, even if taken from a very popular attraction at the Disney Resorts worldwide, would become the biggest movies of all time (or at least is going into the right direction to become the biggest movie ever)?

Looking at the history of Pirate movies how could they have been sure it would work? Why this questions? Well I just finished watching “Cutthroat Island” and was wondering how this movie from 1995 never became the success Carolco Pictures had hoped for (Because of this movie they even had to file for bankruptcy).
