NemoRide

Pixar is giving us a new Nemo adventure on the big screen but the Oriental Land Company is giving their guests a new Nemo attraction in the parks. OLC has just announced the new attraction for Tokyo DisneySea. The attraction will be themed to the well beloved Finding Nemo movie and the upcoming Finding Dory movie. The ride will be created with the help of the Finding Nemo movie production staff. They will be helping with the visuals of the new experience.

NemoRide2The ride will be placed in the Port Discovery section of the park. It will replace the existing StormRider simulator. The StormRider attraction is set to close in May 2016 so construction for the new Nemo ride can start with a target opening planned for Spring 2017.

The attraction will take place in a submarine. Guests taking place inside the sub will shrink to the size of the fish around them and will then be taken on an adventure by Nemo and Dory.

New Lands for Tokyo Disneyland

Tuesday, April 28th, 2015

TokyoAlice280415The Oriental Land Company has released new artwork for Tokyo Disneyland’s Fantasyland project.

On the first piece of artwork an area is showing off an Alice in Wonderland theme, while a second picturesshows the entrance of the Beauty & The Beast “Be Out Guest” area. Looks like Tokyo will be getting their own version of this popular Walt Disney World restaurant.

TokyoBeOurGuestThese new lands are part of a huge redevelopment of Fantasyland and more new or different themes might find their way into the park. There is no fixed information when to expect the new Fantasyland to open, but we can expect it to open in phases as it will be a big undertaking. Opening of the first phase can be expected somewhere in 2017.

A third piece of artwork the Oriental Land Company has released is for DisneySea. A new port will be build inside this beautiful park carrying a Scandinavia theme. Part of the area will be themed after the Disney hit Frozen. The Arendelle castle is clearly recognisable on the artwork. It looks as if there is enough room for a Frozen attraction inside the mountains. Again, no info on opening dates except to expect it somewhere in 2017.

There you have it, another reason to plan a trip to Tokyo Disneyland. As if one needs another reason!

Amazing Image of the Shanghai Disney Project

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013

disneyShanghaiPark

Walt Disney Chairman CEO Robert Igor showed a first piece of artwork from the new Shanghai Disneyland project during today’s Shareholder meeting. The park is planned to open its gates in 2015 to the first visitors. Still a little time to go, but until then Disney fans can already gaze upon what might become an amazing Kingdom.

“We believe this will be one of the most spectacular Disney experiences yet – and an important part of our future. We look forward to opening the gates at the end of 2015 and welcoming the first of the millions of guests who will enjoy Shanghai Disneyland for generations to come.” R. Iger.

The image shows the center of the Disneyland park, including the Enchanted Storybook Castle, a very green central plaza, a carousel and (what looks like) the Walt and Mickey storytellers statue from Disney California Adventure. This will be an amazing project to follow, but will be even more amazing once finished.

Star Wars Live Action TV Series for ABC

Friday, January 11th, 2013

The rumor of a live action Star Wars television series has been out their for a while but with Disney now buying the Star Wars franchise it looks like it might finally become reality. EW has talked to ABC entertainment president Paul Lee who seems excited about the idea. There are already fifty scrips out there written by Battlestar Galactica’s Ron Moore. Those scripts have been sitting on the shelves for some year but could now be dusted off for future use.

The main problem in the beginning was money and ownership issues. Episodes where said to cost about $5 million each to produce. Not something that would make any decision easy! With the ownership now at Disney and ABC part of the Disney family the step to make a Star Wars Live TV show changes a lot. Full control of all aspect will be at one location and this could be that little push the project needed to get started.

There is not much known about the story that could be used. However, there are rumors that a favorite draft would be about rival families in the Star Wars universe fighting for control. The main location would be the subterranean levels of the planet Coruscant and a bounty hunter would be a main part of the story. Remember that this is only a rumor and that the project is in an early stage so all of this could still change.

Exciting times for Star Wars fans for sure. Not only will there be new movies but their might be a great TV show too. Can’t wait to see it all materialize!

Animation Nominations

Friday, January 11th, 2013

We all know that Disney brings out some of the best animations, so it will come to no surprise Disney has some nominations. In the United Kingdom the BAFTA Award nominations have been released. Here Disney has 2 chances to win the price. Both Brave and Frankenweenie are on the short list. They are up against only one more movie in their category. The third nominee is Paranorman.

Disney does even a little better on the Oscar list. Besides Brave and Frankenweenie are on the list, but also Wreck-It Ralph got nominated. The Oscar list is a little bigger with a total of 5 nominations. 3 of them from Disney, Paranorman is also on it and the final name on the list is The Pirates! Band of Misfits.

Star Wars Comics are going to Marvel

Thursday, December 20th, 2012

It doesn’t come to a surprise that Disney will bring the Star Wars comics back to Marvel after the Disney/Lucas deal. It has been at Marvel before but Dark Horse was the publisher that took care of the comic franchise. They will finish up the Star Wars stories At Dark Horse but once the contract ends they will loose one of their bigger projects.

As from 2013 Marvel will handle the new story lines and it is to be expected that they will take over fully in 2015. Right on time for the next movie!

At this time it is unknown if Marvel will create ongoing titles are if they will keep on the short 4 to 6 issue stories as was the case at Dark Horse. However, it can be expected that Marvel will create a new stand alone Star Wars universe within the Marvel comic house. It would be way to odd to see Darth Vader fight the Avengers! Would it not? So let’s hope that this will not happen.

There is no info on the writers and artists working for the current Star Wars series and if they will continue their work under the Marvel flag.

Disney Buys Lucasfilm and Opens door for new Star Wars Movie

Tuesday, October 30th, 2012

Disney has already proven that they can successfully buy a big franchise and make it even more successful. Just look at the Marvel and the current successes at the box office. Disney has done it again by buying the Lucasfilm and will be looking at expanding not only the Disney family, but also expanding the Star Wars universe. The deal is worth $4 billion and is the biggest buy out deal Disney ever made and the fourth biggest buy out deal up to date. Disney will pony up half of the total in cash and will issue another part in 40 million shares.

This opens the doors to many new Star Wars films and Disney CEO Robert Iger already mention that we can expect a new Star Wars film every 2 or 3 years. George Lucas, the creator of the Star Wars universe, is ready to pass on his legacy.

“For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next, It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers”
George Lucas

With this deal Disney will acquire full ownership of Star Wars franchise as well as the cutting edge technology from Industrial Light & Magic, Skywalker Sound and more. Current Lucasfilm Co-Chairman, Kathleen Kennedy, will become the president of the Lucasfilm department.

Star Wars Episode 7 will be the first movie that will come from this deal. While Disney has full control of the new Star Wars movie, George Lucas will still play a part of the process as a creative consultant. Star Wars Episode 7 is set for a 2015 release.

The possibilities with this new deal are endless. One can only hope that Star Wars will find an even more prominent place in the parks. There have been rumors of expansions at the Disney Hollywood Studios for a while. (example a Cantina) This deal could be that little extra push to see this happening even sooner then the fans had hoped for. This is just the beginning of a big story, one that we will follow closely for sure.

Working at Disney… not so Favorable

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Disney came in on 41st place on most blissful places to work in the USA. This according to a study made by the jobsite CareerBliss.com. According to the study the biggest concern of the people asked about favorable places to work at is the fact that Disney is more concerned about the profit as it is on their workers who are given very low wages or whom have to constantly fight for benefits. Even a risky job at the US Army does a lot better. Soldiers are at high risk if they have to go to Afghanistan or Iraq, but the US army still makes it all the way to 11th place on the list.

The top 25 looks as follow. (more…)

Disney has started the second season of the Possibility Shop where mum’s (and dads don’t have to feel left out) can find new things to do with their kids. These ideas are brought in form of small web episodes or webisodes. Could get a little messy, but in a fun way. The new episodes are produced by the talented people of the Jim Henson Company and can be found via theDisneyFamily.com website. 20 webisodes are planned in the second series and will make their way onto the web throughout the year, up to August 2011. Expect an episode every 2 to 3 weeks full of family fun.

New Mulan Movie

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

According to Hollywood.com the talented actress Zhang Ziyi from one of my all time favorite movies “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, the stunning “House of Flying Daggers” and the amazing “Hero” will be playing a live Mulan version in a feature movie. Zhang Ziyi might be known even more among the western audience for her roles in “Rush Hour 2” and the Oscar winning movie “Memoirs of a Geisha”

Zhang Ziyi was not nominated for an Oscar, but she did win a BAFTA for Best Performance by an Actrice in a Leading Role, the Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture, the MTV Movie Award for Sexiest Performance. She also won the Screen Actors Guild Award and the Satellite Awards for the same movie.

Zhang Ziyi will also produce the new Mulan movie for which she said secured an investment from Disney of $100 million. The movie will be shot in 3D and will be an English version. Production should start in October.

Mulan is still my favorite Disney Animation, so I am really excited to see the movie become a live version and to have a wonderful actrice star as Mulan herself. Can’t wait to hear more about this project.

Oriental Land Company going to Shanghai?

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

This could be interesting news, the Oriental Land company is thinking about working together with Disney on the Shanghai park. The oriental Land company has been very successful operating the Tokyo Disney Resort. For example; they got the amazing DisneySea park out there and they are making a good profit on the Tokyo park! Disney on itself isn’t doing so good on their other non US parks, so bringing in the Oriental Land company in the mix might be a good idea.

The Oriental Land company is now talking with Disney about the planned Shanghai park. This would give the Oriental Land Company new growth possibilities.

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

The new Disney Theme Park for Shanghai has been approved by China’s planning agency. With the approval China and Disney can now start working on the final details of the new project for the city’s eastern Pudang district.

“China is one of the most dynamic, exciting and important countries in the world, and this approval marks a very significant milestone for The Walt Disney Company in mainland China,” Robert A. Iger, president and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, said in a statement.

The first phase of the project will include a Magic Kingdom style park but with characteristic tailored to the Shanghai region and China. There is no time frame set to when the park will open its gates but the investment is set for $3,6 billion for the 4 square mile park. However a Shanghai based Disney executive said that the deal is not final yet and final negotiations could last several months. But Disney says that the approval will allow both sides to move forwards to a final agreement.
