Star Wars Comics are going to Marvel

Thursday, December 20th, 2012

It doesn’t come to a surprise that Disney will bring the Star Wars comics back to Marvel after the Disney/Lucas deal. It has been at Marvel before but Dark Horse was the publisher that took care of the comic franchise. They will finish up the Star Wars stories At Dark Horse but once the contract ends they will loose one of their bigger projects.

As from 2013 Marvel will handle the new story lines and it is to be expected that they will take over fully in 2015. Right on time for the next movie!

At this time it is unknown if Marvel will create ongoing titles are if they will keep on the short 4 to 6 issue stories as was the case at Dark Horse. However, it can be expected that Marvel will create a new stand alone Star Wars universe within the Marvel comic house. It would be way to odd to see Darth Vader fight the Avengers! Would it not? So let’s hope that this will not happen.

There is no info on the writers and artists working for the current Star Wars series and if they will continue their work under the Marvel flag.

At the “Comic” Movies

Sunday, July 15th, 2012

The Avengers was a big success for Marvel and Disney so expect to see a whole lot more Hero movies coming your way. One of them was just announced during this years San Diego Comic Con. The long rumored Guardians of the Galaxy is now official. A little less known Marvel comic with some obscure characters like Rocket Raccoon. Other characters that will be portrait in the movie are Drax, Groot, Star-Lord and Gamora. For those collecting comics, go and buy the Guardians of the Galaxy books now as they will go up in value just like the books with Thanos did after the Avengers movie came out.

Other movies that where mentioned where a whole bunch of sequels. Captain America: Winter Soldier (Scheduled for April 4, 2012) and Thor: The Dark World (Scheduled for November 8, 2013). The Captain America movie has the subtitle Winter Soldier and this appears to confirm that the story from the comic with the same title will be used. In this story Bucky is alive and operates as a brainwashed Soviet Assassin.

Also discussed during the San Diego Comic Con was the Ant-Man movie. This project has been in development for a while but Director/Screenwriter Edgar Wright said that they shot some test footage. This could take the movie to the next level.

Some might think this is a strange choice but Ant-Man is a founding Avengers member and does have a lot of comic fans. When this movie project goes ahead, and it sure looks like it, expect Ant-Man to appear in the next Avengers movie. This is only an assumption, but it would make sense.

Disney Imagineers / Marvel Imagineers

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Will the first Marvel attraction find its way into a Disney park? With Disney owning Marvel this question wasn’t about “if”, but “when”. Now it looks like the Disney Imagineers are working on an idea to bring a first Marvel attraction into the parks. This rumored possibility comes from the mouse itself in the form of an interview in the next issue of D23, the Disney magazine.

In an interview with Kevin Feige, president of the Marvel Studios, some ideas are put forward regarding bringing Marvel to the Disney parks.

“It’s the biggest dream of all. We get to tap into this spectacular team that is better than anyone else on the planet at bringing fantasy to life, not only on the big screen but in the real world,” said Feige.  (via Movies.IGN)

Grimm Fairy Tales in Walt Disney World (update)

Saturday, April 16th, 2011

I love Disney parks, love them! It’s one of the two hobby’s I have that I enjoy every single day. What is the other hobby? Comics! Love them too. So when you put them together I totally geek out. When Marvel came part of Disney I got really excited and could only see (hope) good things. Now there are a lot of other companies out there making some great stuff. One of them is Zenescope who have a monthly Grimm Fairy Tales comic book. Almost every month Zenescope bring out a couple of variant editions. A lot of the time these variants are related with Comic Conventions.

The latest convention edition will be the Megacon convention. This convention takes took place in Orange County Convention Center in Orlando as from February 17 to 19th 2012. Especially for this convention 2 variant covers of Zenescope will be offered. What is so special about these that we have to mention them on a Disney blog. Well, let the covers speak for themselves. Tron Variants

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Marvel and Disney! They are one and the same (sort of) as Disney bought Marvel. You can already notice this joint venture by the Tron movie adaption’s that are going to appear. But Marvel has more plans. There will be 4 variant comic covers related to Tron in November. There are no pictures yet but the titels of the comic books with variants are: Thor #617, Avengers #7, Captain America #612 and Secret Avengers #7.

Comic book store can order these variants in a ratio of 15 other books of the same title. So if a store orders 15 regular Thor covers it can order 1 extra Thor Tron Variant cover.

Tron Comic Adaptation (updated)

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

With Marvel being owned by Disney we can’t be surprised to see Disney related comics to appear. Movie adaptations are very common so, again to no surprise, a Tron Original movie adaptation would hit the shelves too. Marvel will release the “Tron: Original Movie Adaptation 1” in November. Release date is set for September 3rd.

This is more then a month before the next movie will hit the theaters (December 17) and should be a good reed before the sequel comes out.

I have the comic on my pull list!

Tron: The Betrayal

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Tron is hot, so we expect to see a lot of Tron stuff appear the coming months. As a comic collector I am delighted to see a comic make it to the stands too. Marvel is releasing a Tron: The Betrayal comic book. It looks like the story in the comic will take place before the events in the upcoming Tron: Legacy movie.

Get a first look at the world of the upcoming Tron: Legacy! Following the events of the original Tron, the year is 1983 and Kevin Flynn is now in charge of Encom. He’s built it into the largest videogame company in the world. But that’s not all Kevin has accomplished – he’s also secretly built the Grid, a digital world filled with living programs! More than a place where he can race light cycles, it’s a place where he can build and test environments only limited by his imagination. But the Grid is far more complex than even its creator realizes, and even Flynn can’t be in two places at once. As this new world develops a life of its own, Flynn is going to first need the help of an old friend, a security program named Tron. Showcasing a key time of the mythology of the Tron world, part one of THE BETRAYAL will show the early days of the Grid, and the first appearances of the heroes and villains that will be seen in Tron: Legacy. Haunted Mansion Movie Teaser Logo

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

After the great news, coming from the San Diego Comic Con, that Guillermo del Toro will be making a new Haunted Mansion movie we are already shown a teaser logo art from the newly announced Disney movie.

“Millions of people from around the world visit The Haunted Mansion each year, but no one has ever had a tour guide like Guillermo del Toro,” said Rich Ross, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “Guillermo is one of the most gifted and innovative filmmakers working today and he is going to take audiences on a visually-thrilling journey like they’ve never experienced before.” (via BloodyDisgusting.com)

The big version of the logo can be found on the horror movie site Bloody Disgusting where they also agree that it is the best news from the Comic Con so far!

Josh Whedon is an Avenger!

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

OK, Avengers will not be distributed via a Disney company but via the Paramount company, but as Avenger is a part of Marvel Entertainment Company and Disney owns the Marvel Entertainment Company I have enough reason to do a little happy dance and write about it here on the blog after hearing the news that Joss Whedon confirmed his role as Director for the Avengers movie during his appearance at the San Diego Comic Con. I have always been a big fan of Buffy, love his Serenity movie and now can’t wait to see his Avengers movie.

This is not the first time Joss Whedon is involved in the comic industry. He wrote the Buffy Series 8 for Dark Horse, but also had a 24 part Astonishing X-Men series written for Marvel. For this run he was nominated for multiple Eisner Awards including Best Serialized Story, Best New Series, Best Writer and winning the Best Continuing Series award in 2006. Let’s hope this is enough to Joss Whedon bring the Avengers to the screen as they should be. We don’t want to see a repeat of Marvel’s the Fantastic Four 2, a disaster of a movie. But I have high hopes with Whedon in the director’s chair.

Did you know that Joss Whedon was one of the script writers of Toy Story. There! Another link with Disney, another reason to write about it on the Mousekingdom blog!

Even More Tron from the Comic Con

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

The events are taking place and one of the first was the Tron press event where the whole crew of the movie was present to talk about the old and the new movie. Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Michael Sheen director Joe Kosinski, Bruce Boxleitner, Steven Lisberger and Jeff Bridges talked about the original movie, the technology used in today’s Tron, reaction about the sequel, the costumes and lot’s more.

How do you impress the public that’s seen all the Internet has to offer:

Steven Lisberger, director of original Tron: That won’t be a problem. You’ll find out soon the look of Tron is unique, it’s one of the strongest things about it. It’s moved on to the next generation. It’s a founding myth for an entire generation. It’s almost like it’s been held back, but now when it’s come back, you feel the energy we missed in the last 25 years. (UGO)
