Lego Movies

lego-trademarkThe Lego Group and Disney Consumer Products announced they would start producing Lego and Lego Duplo sets based on Disney movies. They have signed a multi year agreement and will start the cooperation with sets from Toy Story, Cars and the live action movie Prince of Persia.

Lego has always been great toys, not only for children as I am sure many adults (and I do know some) collect them to. Especially Star Wars has been a favorite of many older “children”. The new range might not convince the more mature fan, but many younger once will be drawn to them. I can see Cars doing particularly well. There is always a lot of Cars toys to be found in many shops. Proofing they are still very popular, even if it isn’t the latest Disney/Pixar production. The new Lego Car set will have the same popularity for sure.

Me, I only wish they would make Lego based on Disney attractions!… I would buy them all.

No F1 at Disneyland Resort Paris

Friday, November 21st, 2008

The only race track at Disneyland Resort Paris is Autopia

It’s not going well with the economy and it looks like this is the main reason why there will be no F1 track at Disneyland Resort Paris.

After concluding that the project is not economically viable, Euro Disney and Lagardère Sports have decided to cease their project of bringing the French Grand Prix to Paris, AFP reports.

The endeavour had originally planned to see the new Formula One destination in operation for the 2010 season, yet despite strong public support coming from F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone, no definite agreement could be reached with other parties in order to secure the necessary financial backing to bring the operation forward. (Eurosport Yahoo)

Let us hope that Disney finds another project to fill their land; 3rd gate (hint, hint), an indoor water park (hint, hint). Although with the economy situation of today and all the other financial problems Euro Disney s.c.a. Still has to solve, I can see that land being empty for a long time to come.

Disney Fun in Mid Air

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Did you read my story about the next Disneyland Concept? I even dreamed about a Disney magic filled flight. Well, it looks like one airline company, Kingfisher Airlines, has the same idea and will add special Disney entertainment named “Little Wings” to its flights.

The program is starting of with a magazine targeted to the very young with Winnie The Pooh and Mickey Mouse, but not forgetting the older children by offering Cars, High School Musical, Hannah Montana among other Teen stories.

Later in the year there will also be in-flight entertainment. Although that is not a new concept, and some Disney movies or series already made it on plains, Kingfisher Airlines is looking to add a full channel of Disney Magic.

Disney’s California Adventure Preview Center

The preview center for the “updated” Disney’s California Adventure will open its doors as from October 20. Visitors will be able to see concept art, models, sketches and video related to all the planned changes. You can expect to see things from the new nighttime watershow, the little Mermaid dark ride, the Cars Land themed area and the new Los Angeles of the 20s theme that will be used in the park.

Walt Disney Imagineering is poised to open up its Blue Sky Cellar — a special attraction in California Adventure’s Golden Vine Winery. (

Cars II: Early arrival

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Cars II, the follow up of the original Cars success movie from Pixar, is arriving a little earlier as it was first announced.

The animators are racing to get the movie ready for the summer of 2011 instead of the summer 2012 date. (source

Cars II (Casting Call?)

Monday, July 16th, 2007

carsiiwhowillbeinpart2.jpgNot so long ago Pixar revealed the next movies that they have planned. Now a new rumor has appeared giving us the name of the possible 2011 project: Cars II.

While I think Cars was a nice movie, I surely enjoyed it, I didn’t really wanted to see a second part. First of all I am all for new project, but secondly (if a follow up is needed) an Incredibles movie would have been so much nicer. I love the Incredibles characters a lot more then the Cars once.

Toon Studios Opening at Disneyland Resort Paris

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

crushoutsidetoonstudios.jpgLast week Monday I didn’t know I was going to be at Disneyland Resort Paris, 2 days later, on Wednesday, I had everything planned and ready to visit the Press event of the new Toon Studios area at the Walt Disney Studios. As I have been ‘recruited’ to be the principal research assistant for Simon and Susan Veness ‘A Brit’s Guide to Disneyland Resort Paris’ book, I was able to attend the big opening special event party. It would be wrong calling this a working weekend as it was way too much fun for that, but I did already send back my full report to Simon, showing my dedication to the job. I can only imagine how much work it is to write and publish a guide, so I am even more thankful that I got to do the fun part.

So how did the weekend go? Here some of the highlights of the trip, the event and of course the rides and the Toon Studios itself.

Disney and the 33rd Annual Saturn Award Nominees

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

piratesnominated1.jpgDisney might be walking away with some more film and TV prices as they have been given some nominations for the 33rd Annual Saturn Award Nominees (The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror films).

Pirates of the Caribbean; Dead Man’s Chest has been nominated for best fantasy film. The one movie I think might be walking away with it could be Superman Returns. Personally I see a close call between these two great movies

Cars could walk away with yet another best animation price if it wins in this category. This time however there are more then three movies on the list (Flushed Away, Happy Feet, Monster House, Over the Edge and A Scanner Darkly). Even with more competition then on other shows there is a good chance Cars will bag this one to.

And the Oscar Nominees are…. (updated)

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

The Oscar Nominees have been announced and Disney and Pixar have several chances to win the prestige award in several categories (…and for sure Disney is happier whit these nominees then the one of the RAZZIES).

Cars has the chance to win Best Animated Feature of the year. Just as at the Golden Globes the Pixar animation is up against “Happy Feet” and “Monster House”. My predictions are that Cars will be taking the Oscar home… In addition the song “Our Town” written by Randy Newman for Cars and performed on the soundtrack by James Taylor is in the running for Best Original Song (side note: it was the only song rerecorded German for the release in Germany), but is up against three songs from Dreamgirls which might stand a very good chance after that movie, even so dubbed a “sure bet” has been left out of the race for “Best Picture”.

Pirates of the Caribbean; Dead Man’s Chest could qualify for the Achievement for Art Direction Oscar. It is up against Pan’s Labyrinth, Dreamgirls, The Good Shepherd and The Prestige (which nets thereby another nomination for Disney). I think Pirates has a good chance to sail home with the statue.

More Awards for Cars

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

Ok, so Cars won the Golden Globes (see earlier report) – and yes, the Golden Globes awarded by the foreign press in Hollywood are frequently seen as indicator for the upcoming Oscars. But Cars also won another award, which is a great indicator on how positive critics in general reacted to the feature … the GOLDEN TOMATO award as best animated feature. The annual award, handed out by the popular website Rotten Tomatoes is based on the reviews by critics – but there is also a special awarded based on user ratings … just that is not yet decided.

I have to admit, though, that I am personally rather surprised about that outcome. While I thought Cars was a great movie from a technical point of view and the animation was incredible, I still can’t get over the fact, that all the time during the movie I thought: isn’t this the same story as the 1991 movie Doc Hollywood starring Michael J. Fox?? But then I have to admit none of the other animated features released in 2006 made me visit my movie theater. Your thoughts on the Cars – Doc Hollywood question?

And the Winner is… Cars!

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

carstrailerpict.jpgThe 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards has come to an end and Cars is one of the winners. The movie got the price for Best Animated Feature. The movie was up against Happy Feet and Monster House.

Johnny Depp did not win in the category Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical. This price went to Sacha Baron Cohen for his movie “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan”. I did not see the movie yet so I cannot judge it but I am a little surprised that Johnny Didn’t get this one.

ABC also shared in the prizes. Grey’s Anatomy (Best TV drama) and Ugly Betty (Best TV comedy, Best Performance by Actress) where among the winners. Lost didn’t get to take a globe home…

A full list of all the winners.

People’s Choice Awards

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

pcaweb.jpgThe 33th Annual People’s Choice Awards have been presented and Pirates of the Caribbean; Dead Men’s Chest is the big winner of the event. It has been given awards for best Male star: “Johnny Depp”, best On-screen matchup: “Johnny Depp & Keira Knightley” and also Voted best movie and best movie drama.

Johnny Depp could not be at the event but he gave a message by satellite from London

“I know that I’ve said this before. But the fact that this award comes from the people makes it all the more special,” he said. “And thanks for keeping me employed, yeah? You’re the boss.”

Another Disney winner is the animation “Cars” that was voted best Family movie. A full list of all other winners can be found on the website

And the 64th Golden Globe Award Nominees are…

Friday, December 15th, 2006

goldenglobeweb.jpgThe Nominees for the Golden Globe Awards are known and the Disney Company is doing well. Some of the nominations are for the following (together with my personal thoughts on the chances to win it);

Best performance by an actor in a motion picture – comedy or musical; Johnny Depp for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead man’s Chest. Personally I think he makes a good chance of winning this title even with the other names in this category.

Cars Nominated

Monday, December 4th, 2006

annieawards.jpgCars” is a real success for Disney and Pixar and might also become a real success with the Annie awards. Although only nominations are out yet, Cars might dominate the show. The question is if DreamworksFlushed Away” might be the surprise of the awards and would get the big price of best animation feature.

Animation giants Disney-Pixar and DreamWorks will go head-to-head for the top Animated Feature award at the ceremony, widely seen as the pathway to the Oscars, as all previous recipients have gone on to triumph in the best animated feature category at the Academy Awards later that month. (

The 34th annual awards will take place in Glendale, Los Angeles, on Feb. 11.
