The Elite

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

The new Cars movie is looking to be great and if the movie is as good as the trailers it could be even better then the first one. That’s something that doesn’t happen a lot at the movies, a sequel that beats the first one, but at Pixar they are pretty good at changing this. They proofed it with Toy Story!

Every great movie also gets a new video game and it’s no difference with Cars. Disney Interactive has released a second video about their new game. The video is called “The Elite” and it looks like a lot of fun. If the game is as good as the trailer (and I am sure it will be), we will have a winner…

The game will be available for Xbox 360/Xbox Live, PS3, Wii and Nitendo DS. You can pre-order them here. The game will be available as from June 21, 2011

Tron Trilogy Rumors and News

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

It’s not a big surprise that Disney is looking at making 2 more Tron movies to complete a “new trilogy”. The movie made a global gross of $399 Million during it’s theatrical run. It’s a “small” profit on a approximately $340 million price tag (making and marketing costs combined), but enough to convince Disney to take it further. It also puts Joseph Kosinski on the map as the highest grossing first time director of a live action movie.

Another reason why a second and third movie is a good idea are the very good Toy sales! This might become yet another one of these Cars successes where the after sale of merchandise is the big money magnet. Add the DVD sale that has just started to the total and everybody at Disney, including their shareholders, will be more than happy. I know I am! Not just because of the positive news above, but especially for 2 more movies. Another nice success is the very popular music from the movie. Daft Punk’s soundtrack sold 615,000 copies world wide. During the WonderCon convention guest had the chance to go home and discover a nice special clip from the new Cars II movie. This URL gets you to the exclusive clip. No worries though. You don’t have to do anything as we added the clip here…

Disney ‘s San Diego Comic Con Exclusives list

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

It’s almost that time of the year again; The San Diego Comic Con. As usual there is a big list of exclusives that will only be sold at the convention (until they start to pop up on eBay). Here you’ll find a full list of everything exclusive Disney related.

Let’s start with Boom Studios. They are the people who bring you Pixar and Disney comics on a montly basis. Especially for the convention they added some real gems to their collection. They will have 3 blank cover comic books. These books can be used to have artist at the convention drawn something on it. Those books and the art on it makes them one of a kind. There will be a Toy Story #5 Get-A-Sketch, Cars #7 Get-A-Sketch and a The Muppet Show #7 Get-A-Sketch comic book. These three books will have a limited production run of only 500 copies each and will be sold for $20 a piece. This is without the artists drawings on it. Those that would like a drawing will need to queue with one of the artist and might have to pay another premium to get the art on the book.

Cars II New Release Date

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Disney’s company president and CEO Bob Igner has announced that the PIXAR movie “Cars 2” has a new release date. The movie will race into the theaters in December 2011, a push back from its previous June 24, 2011 date. This might result in the Disney PIXAR’s “The Bear and the Bow” to be pushed back too. “The Bear and the Bow” is scheduled for December 2011 too at the moment, but Disney will not want to release two big productions in the same time slot.

Cars II will be directed by Brad Lewis and The Bear and the Bow’s director is Brenda Chapman and will feature the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson and Julie Walters.

Hannah Montana on the music charts

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

When I discussed the predictions and then the actual box office of “Hannah Montana: The Movie” last week I mentioned that it would be interesting to see how the success on the box office would influence the sales of the soundtrack album. That had been released in advance already but did sell less copies than prior Hannah Montana or Miley Cyrus CD released. So with the first regular week with the movie out on the big screen it was time to check back in with the Billboard Charts for the US …

While the album still did not make it to the #1 spot of the Billboard Album Charts – it returned to #2 for the third week the album is on sale. Quite a feat which also earned it the title “greatest gainer” of the week. After debuting on #2 in the April 11, 2009 charts the album dropped to #5 for the week leading up to the big screen opening of the movie. The album did remain in the #1 spot on the Billboard Soundtrack Album Charts though, which it debuted on three weeks ago and which it did not relinquish inbetween.

UP!… Going Down?

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

up-3d-posterPixar’s next big animation release will be “UP”, but analysts say that it was a bad choice. The movie isn’t commercial enough and young boys might not like the main character to much.

Also the toy manufactures aren’t to happy. Previous Pixar movies where not only a success in theaters but made big cash in the toy stores too. Especially “Cars” is a big success with its $5bn record sales so far. Cars merchandise is still going strong, even three years after its first release. Toy manufactures don’t see a repeat of that success with the movie “UP”.

Racing Lighting McQueen

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

The box office in the US is a burning … record after record is falling … while other parts of the economy are hard hit, going out for an evening at the movies seems to be “the” thing to do right now in the US. Past weekend the fourth installment of Universal’s franchise “Fast & Furious” (titled: “Fast & Furious – New Model… Original Parts”) starring Vin Diesel (he is still making movies??), Paul Walker as well as Michelle Rodriguez (which also starred in ABC’s hit series LOST) – all three from the original first movie – did take advantage of the hot box office by leaving several notable box office records in the US behind it in the dust according to reports:
