The Pirates of the Caribbean Pocket Model Game

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

piratesgamewizkids.jpgToday WizKids announces that they signed a deal with Disney to create a “Pirates of the Caribbean” PocketModel Game. I love the games of Wizkids and have been playing their Marvel HeroClix, DC Heroclix and HorrorClix games since the beginning. (For those knowing the game; I own both the Galactus and the Phoenix figures.)

The also created the game Pirates; a game where players can battle it out using construct 3-D pirate ships from pieces punched out of a styrene card. (WizKids) This however is a game I haven’t played yet, although it did look intriguing.

Transformers vs. Pirates

Monday, July 9th, 2007

taiwanesetransformerposter.jpgThe Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End did a great job at the box office but there is a movie out there trying to do it better and is looking at breaking the record. Pirates III did about $114 million in its opening weekend, but with a count on 3 ½ days and a $100 million counts the battle is on; Transformers looks like it will get into a fight with the pirates to do better, but will they succeed?

While I did love the Pirates III movie and gave it a great review, I never thought I would be doing the same for Transformers. I thought we would get another big budget movie where the effects are everything and the story and acting will be secondary, I was well surprised when I left the cinema. Sure, both pirates and Transformers is filled with the big budget special effect used in so many movies that try to make the big bucks with the cinema goers, but while Pirates proofed character development and story can be part of such a movie, I never thought I would see this in the Transformers movie.

$500 Million Pirates Treasure

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

chowyunfat-out1.jpgIt only took 20 days for Pirates of the Caribbean; at Worlds End to pass the $500 million mark. The world wide success is helping to get to these monster earnings. For example opening day in China was good for $1.3 million.

The Pirates at China don’t come without an extra price though. To be able to show the movie in China the price of “censorship” needs to be paid. I could fill a whole blog telling how I feel about censorship or maybe it is just an angry reaction to the fact that it was parts of Chow Yun Fat role that had been cut. He was partly cut out of the movie because they didn’t like how the Chinese pirate was portrayed on screen…

Pirates, Muppets, Lions and Darth Vader

muppetspirates1.jpgWhat if Mufasa was Darth Vader? Or what would happen if the Muppets would invade the world of the pirates?

You can find out on YouTube where you will find a trailer of the Pirates of the Caribbean; At Worlds End that includes a bunch of the Muppets and a great little video where Darth “Mufasa” Vader talks to Luke.

Pirates of the Caribbean; At Worlds End: Review

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

swannsparrow.jpgI have just returned from my local movie complex where today was the first screening of “The Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End” movie.

While I don’t want to give away anything for those still having to see the movie here is my review of the movie without (to many) spoilers that would give away the main story…

Darker; The third part in this trilogy is a lot darker then the first one. While the first two movies put our pirates and friends in fun situations, the darker settings and story is enlightened with witty and catchy jokes. They turn the style around, but it really works well.

featurette-p-iii-1.jpgIf you would like to see some nice featurettes click on the picture; You’ll find 2 great little videos where some of the secrets of the new Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End are revealed.

They are real fun and will keep us Pirates fans busy until the release (25 May). Although, I don’t think it spoils it for me, if you want to be kept surprised maybe wait to see these until after you’ve seen the movie as some key scenes of the movie are shown.

$1500 for a Pirates Premiere Ticket (Make-a-Wish)

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

make-a-wish-logo1.jpg… but let me start by saying that the money will go to “Make-a-Wish” foundation. (A Foundation that fulfills dreams for children who are battling a very severe illness, a organization I have supported myself in the past)

If you want to see the “Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End” premiere together with the red carpet event and even do some Disney rides on May 15 then you should get some tickets for the world premiere in Disneyland. The tickets are highly priced at $1500 and will be a dream to far away for some (like me), but as this is for a good cause isn’t really that bad of news.

Disney hopes to get $3.000.000, which I don’t think will be a problems as I predict tickets to sell out fast. For more info and to order tickets visit the official Disney Pirates site.

Over the past 25 years, Disney has continued to support the Make-A-Wish cause, contributing more than $10 million in cash and in-kind donations on an annual basis. With more than 6,000 wishes granted each year including visits to the Disney Parks, Disney Cruises, meeting Disney Characters and visiting TV and movie sets, including “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, Disney-themed wishes continue to be the most popular requests. So it now seams that Captain Jack and his crew have set there sights on yet another pirate cove; and this time, instead of being “at worlds end” it is in Tokyo Bay!

The Oriental land company had in fact released a press release stating that

Due to renewal, the attraction will be closed May 7 through July 19. In renewal, in addition to Jack Sparrow, Davy Jones from the 2nd movie “Pirates of Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” and Captain Barbossa who revived surprisingly at the end of the movie, will also appear in the attraction.“

Sao Feng Action Figure (and other Pirates Too)

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

saofengactionfigure.jpgSao Feng will be my favorite Pirates of the Caribbean character. I know, I haven’t seen the movie yet, but being a big Chow Yun Fat fan (from way back during his Hong Kong movies fame) I can’t help it. So while I try to follow all the stories around his character I was also anxiously awaiting any news for a Sao Feng action figure. It was obvious to me that he would be part of a “Pirates of the Caribbean; At Worlds Ends” Action figure series (together with Jack Sparrow and the rest of the cast). Now, during the Toy Fair in New York (I was lucky enough to have been able to visit this fair in the past) the new Pirates figure where being shown to dealers from around the world.

Disneyland Resort Paris New Years Trip: Highlights Day 2 – New Years Eve

Saturday, January 13th, 2007

dlrp-ny-day2-cheyenne.jpgToday was the day of the big celebration, the last day of the year 2006. After a good night sleep and a late wake up call we headed for our Cheyenne Breakfast. Now here is a change for the worst. Not that the breakfast was ever anything special but this was far below any standard. Especially the ham, which was given by a Cast Member to the guests, has been turned in a strange event. 1 Piece was cut in four and if you where lucky you got half of that. We never expect much from a breakfast while staying at Cheyenne, but this was just bad. Now this will not spoil our time at Disneyland Resort Paris and as I promised to give the highlights… here they are…

chowyunfat-piratesiii-art.jpgPirates of the Caribbean; At World’s End is highly anticipated by the many fans. With a release date of May 25 I was wondering when we would get to see some cool stuff…

…And that is just what happened when I checked out “Ain’t it Cool” where they got some great artwork for the third movie added…

I am so looking forwards to this part as my all-time favorite actor is in it; Chow Yun-Fat!

(as you can see it is now called “World’s” instead of Worlds, the new official name of the movie)
