$500 Million Pirates Treasure

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

chowyunfat-out1.jpgIt only took 20 days for Pirates of the Caribbean; at Worlds End to pass the $500 million mark. The world wide success is helping to get to these monster earnings. For example opening day in China was good for $1.3 million.

The Pirates at China don’t come without an extra price though. To be able to show the movie in China the price of “censorship” needs to be paid. I could fill a whole blog telling how I feel about censorship or maybe it is just an angry reaction to the fact that it was parts of Chow Yun Fat role that had been cut. He was partly cut out of the movie because they didn’t like how the Chinese pirate was portrayed on screen…

You can find out on YouTube where you will find a trailer of the Pirates of the Caribbean; At Worlds End that includes a bunch of the Muppets and a great little video where Darth “Mufasa” Vader talks to Luke.

Weetabix Cereals 2… or: “Pirates take over – Part II: battlefield breakfast table”. I admit that I followed the numerous reports and discussions about the sweetened breakfast cereals that Kellog’s offered adorned with Disney brands and characters in the US amusing. But then I opened the flyer of the local supermarket last night to scan the offers for the coming week and saw it: TWO Disney branded cereals from a company called Weetabix, here in Germany (and as I learned online also available in the UK)!!

Pirates of the Caribbean; At Worlds End: Review

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

swannsparrow.jpgI have just returned from my local movie complex where today was the first screening of “The Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End” movie.

While I don’t want to give away anything for those still having to see the movie here is my review of the movie without (to many) spoilers that would give away the main story…

Darker; The third part in this trilogy is a lot darker then the first one. While the first two movies put our pirates and friends in fun situations, the darker settings and story is enlightened with witty and catchy jokes. They turn the style around, but it really works well.

No More Pirate Ships for Gore Verbinski

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Gore’s sick of pirates. If I wrote a scene that had to be shot on water, he’d run the other way.” (Jim Hill Media)

Looks like Gore Verbinski is done with pirates (although this doesn’t come from his mouth) while Johnny Depp would happily do some more follow up movies (but only if Gore Verbinski will direct it).

Chow Yun Fat visits Hong Kong Pirateland

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

chowyunfat-hkdl1.jpgFrom May 4 to June 30, 2007, Adventureland has been transformed into Pirateland celebrating the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. To support the Pirates at Hong Kong Disneyland Chow Yun Fat made a visit.

Chow Yun Fat, who plays the pirate Sao Feng in the upcoming movie Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World’s End, visited Hong Kong Disneyland to experience the totally new Pirate Takeover.

When Chow Yun Fat came aboard the Pirates franchise (you get it, came aboard – Sorry for the silliness) I totally geek-ed out. Chow Yun Fat is my favorite actor and has been for a very long time. All you Disney fans, if you like his acting take the time to find some of his other great work. I know some don’t like to watch movies that are not taped in English, but give it a chance. Some of his best work include; “Hard Boiled” (my favorite), “The Killer”, “God of Gamblers”, “A Better Tomorrow” and “Crouching tiger, Hidden Dragon”, however there are a lot more. (Warning, the list above might be rated, check if the movie is appropriate for the persons watching them)

The “Pirates” Hunt Continues

Monday, May 7th, 2007

pirateshuntvolvo1.jpgRemember the Volvo car you could win when Pirates of the Caribbean II came out? With the release of Pirates III a new chance for all the hunters to get their hands on a key for a Volvo XC90 has come.

Together with 50.000 doubloon a key has been sunk into the ocean this time. To find the key you will have to solve 4 puzzles that you can find on the Volvo “The Hunt” website and a 5th puzzle that can be found on the map you need to pick up from your local Volvo Dealer.

This map will be crucial to solve all the puzzles and to find your way to the treasure… Good luck, and feel free to share your adventures here.

$1500 for a Pirates Premiere Ticket (Make-a-Wish)

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

make-a-wish-logo1.jpg… but let me start by saying that the money will go to “Make-a-Wish” foundation. (A Foundation that fulfills dreams for children who are battling a very severe illness, a organization I have supported myself in the past)

If you want to see the “Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End” premiere together with the red carpet event and even do some Disney rides on May 15 then you should get some tickets for the world premiere in Disneyland. The tickets are highly priced at $1500 and will be a dream to far away for some (like me), but as this is for a good cause isn’t really that bad of news.

Disney hopes to get $3.000.000, which I don’t think will be a problems as I predict tickets to sell out fast. For more info and to order tickets visit the official Disney Pirates site.

Over the past 25 years, Disney has continued to support the Make-A-Wish cause, contributing more than $10 million in cash and in-kind donations on an annual basis. With more than 6,000 wishes granted each year including visits to the Disney Parks, Disney Cruises, meeting Disney Characters and visiting TV and movie sets, including “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, Disney-themed wishes continue to be the most popular requests. Sao Feng Action Figure (and other Pirates Too)

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

saofengactionfigure.jpgSao Feng will be my favorite Pirates of the Caribbean character. I know, I haven’t seen the movie yet, but being a big Chow Yun Fat fan (from way back during his Hong Kong movies fame) I can’t help it. So while I try to follow all the stories around his character I was also anxiously awaiting any news for a Sao Feng action figure. It was obvious to me that he would be part of a “Pirates of the Caribbean; At Worlds Ends” Action figure series (together with Jack Sparrow and the rest of the cast). Now, during the Toy Fair in New York (I was lucky enough to have been able to visit this fair in the past) the new Pirates figure where being shown to dealers from around the world.
