Robbing Dwarfs

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Brett Ratner, who directed movies like Rush Hour 3 and X-Men 3, is planning to make a new Snow White version. It will be far away from the Disney Classic and will portray the dwarfs as robbers and will involve a dragon. The new movie will have a comedic look at the Brother Grimm story. Script is written by Melisa Wallack who has written and directed the 2007 movie Bill.

Although I don’t mind seeing new and enhanced versions of our beloved Disney classic, it will still feel strange to see the story told in a different way. Disney is not involved in this version.

Meeting Woody and the Crew

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

Are you ready for Toy Story 3? So are the movie theaters! This weekend I encountered Woody in full size Lego at my local movie theater. This Lego figure looked impressive, would fit well in a Toy Story fans house. I wonder if they would miss one of them. I say ‘miss one’ as there where 2 of these full size Lego statues in the hall.

He wasn’t the only Tot Story figure there. There where stand ups with the whole gang, over sized movie posters and even big floor mats. They really want you to go and see this movie. But we Disney/Pixar fans don’t need this kind of convincing. We will be ready for the June 18 release.

Tron: Legacy Animation Series

Friday, March 5th, 2010

The first movie from 1982 wasn’t the success Disney had hoped for but over the years it did became the cult classic it deserves to be and Disney saw potential in a sequel. The second movie isn’t out yet, but is already generating a followers of fans who can’t wait to see it.

This time Disney isn’t going to wait another 28 years before they’ll add another Tron to their list of many projects. It looks like we might get a Tron; Legacy animation series for Fall 2011. If green lighted the new series should find it’s way to the target public of 9 to 14 year olds on Disney DX.

No Toy Gets Left Behind

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Can’t wait to see the Toys get into action again for the third time? Just download the 3rd trailer for Toy Story 3 and enjoy a preview of the action you can expect as from June 18, 2010. Woody and Buzz will be back with more adventures, more fun and even more toys.

The trailer looks like it will be another fun ride, not something to take for granted with sequels. However Pixar doesn’t seem to have a problem with that. It already proofed it with Toy Story 2 and now it looks like to repeat itself with the third in the series.

Enjoy the Preview trailer 3!

UP going for the “Best Picture” Oscar (updated)

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

The OSCAR nominations have been made public and “UP” is going for the big one. “UP” has been, as was rumored before, nominated for the Best Picture award. This time the competition is even more fierce as the years before as for the first time since 1943 10 movies will have to battle it out to win the prestigious movie award. The other nominees are “Avatar”, “The Blind Side”, “District 9″, “An Education”, “The Hurt Locker”, “Inglourious Bastards”, “Precious”, “A Serious Man” and “Up in the Air”. It will not be an easy task for “UP” with a powerful list like this.

The more obvious nomination for “UP” is in the “Best Animated Feature” category. Here it is up against “Caroline”, “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” and “The Secret of Kells”.

Animation for the Oscars

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

UPblueR There are 20 animated feature movies that have been submitted for the 82nd Academy Awards. From these 20, the academy will nominated those that deserve to get the Oscar. Among the list we can see a collection of Disney movies. “Disney’s A Christmas Carol”, “The Princess and the Frog”, “Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure”, Ponyo” and the fantastic “UP”.

Other movies on the list are “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel”, “Astro Boy”, “Battle for Terra”, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” “Coraline”, “The Dolphin: Story of a Dreamer”, “Fantastic Mr. Fox” “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs”, “Mary and Max”, “The Missing Lynx”, “Monsters vs. Aliens”, “9”, “Planet 51”, “The Secret of Kells” and “A Town Called Panic”

A nice selection of animated movie with some real gems. Disney’s chances to be nominated for an Oscar look very good, even with this list of 20, some of them very strong, movies. “UP” has to be up there for sure, together with a couple of other Disney productions, but the competition does look good.

Gallery 4 – The Move to Features: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

snowwhiteconceptIt was make or break when Walt created the full length feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The film industry was convinced a feature animation would be a failure and even his wife Lillian and his brother Roy tried to talk him out of it. Lillian, told him: “No one’s ever gonna pay a dime to see a dwarf picture.”. But Walt didn’t listen and continued his dream… the rest is history.

It would be impossible to create a Disney museum without a special gallery dedicated to this milestone in Disney’s life…
