Mickey Speaks

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Disney characters speaking isn’t new, but using the technology for greet and meet is. The characters are being tested in Disneyland where they now talk to the children (and those young at heart) and can directly interact with a response or even using the name of the children that are visiting.

Below a video of one of these encounters. Sounds magical!

Disney Annual Pass for all US parks

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Disney has announced what so many US Disney fans have asked for many years, an annual pass for all US Disney parks.

The Premium pass will cost $700 and will give guess the opportunity to visit all 4 Disney theme parks in Orlando, the two water parks and both Disney parks in Anaheim.

If you own annual passes for both parks you will automatically get the new premium pass.

Next step; an annual pass for all Disney theme parks globally. Too much? I know I would get one…

Jay Rasulo Looking Back

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Jay Rasulo has been the big man for Disney’s park and resort business for the last seven years and can look back on a successful run. He has been leading the park devision into boosting sales with the new Magic you Way tickets and the Magical Express, expanding the Cruise Line with two more ships and can end his span in a high note with the Shanghai park deal. Not everything when as smooth as he might have hoped for, Hong Kong Disneyland for instance could not get the guests in Disney wanted, but overall Rasulo can look back and pass the torch to his successor with pride.

Rasulo said his approach was “based on making our existing destinations the strong ambassadors of the parks-and-resorts brand that they could be, whether through investment, pricing strategy, marketing strategy.” (Orlando Sentinel, the Daily Disney)

Captain EO’s Come Back

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

CaptEO-LogoIf rumors are correct we might not only get Captain EO to return in Disneyland, but also in Walt Disney World’s Epcot. An Epcot re-release of the movie might be ready for the summer of 2010. Fans in Japan can also be happy.

If rumors are correct the Oriental Land Company is talking with Disney to come to an agreement for the movie to be shown in Tokyo too. If indeed correct, a release for 2010 could be a possibility. (Via Screamscape)

Captain EO Limited

Friday, November 27th, 2009

In a rumor we posted not to long ago we already mentioned the possible return of Michael Jackson’s Captain EO. Another rumor floating on the web says that the returning experience would be a limited run at Disneyland and not a long term return of this Disney Park classic. (via Screamscape)

Let’s hope that the limited run doesn’t stop to early. It would be a shame for the fans if they had to miss out on the opportunity to see this again because the time frame is to narrow.

The Return of Captain EO

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

MJ-EO-DisneyPosterA couple of months ago Disney had a private showing of the Captain EO movie for some of their executive and the Jackson family. Fans around the globe hoping this would indicate a return of the classic Disney attraction.

According to the Hollywood Reporter those hopes might come true as guests at Disneyland might get to see it again as of January.

This would be a fantastic tribute to Micheal Jackson and to this fantastic classic attraction which deserves a premium spot in the Disney theme parks. Obviously, from a business point of view, it’s the right time to revise this classic and to jump on the success wagon of the “This is It” production.

More Guests for Disneyland

Monday, November 16th, 2009

DCA-closeUpGood guest attendance at Anaheim’s Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure, even with the economic downturn it’s 15% up compared to the numbers from the same last quarter of the previous fiscal year. Unfortunately it’s not all good news for the company as guest spend a lot less on merchandise. 10% less is bought by the visitors, a big drop for the company. Walt Disney World lost about 3% in visitors during the same time period.

The hotels are also seeing a drop, loosing 4% compared to last year. This translates in 84% occupancy for the Disneyland hotels in Anaheim, the same number as the Disney hotels in Florida.

Disney parks and resorts revenues has gone down by 7% to a total of $10.7 billion in the recent fiscal year compared to the prior year.

The Fire Breathing Dragon

Friday, September 4th, 2009

She finally arrived at Disneyland, Murphy the Fantasmic Dragon. On the first day she had a little stage fright and didn’t breath fire but on the second day she gave it her all. Micechat has some of the very first pictures and photos from the first day but you can see the fire breathing dragon torching the lake on her second day in the youtube video below.

How was that. Doesn’t it look awesome. Wish you could be there and experience it for yourself. I know I do! I got goosebumps watching the video, but it must feel amazing seeing it for real. Great job Imagineers!

Space Mountain illuminated

Friday, August 21st, 2009

As much as the experience of enjoying an attraction at a Disney theme park in perfect conditions is wonderful – well, just as much (if not even more) fans often want to enjoy the same attraction under rarer circumstances … say an indoor roller coaster that is supposed to be in the dark with all lights up… In the case of the original Disneyland, Anaheim (CA), that would be Space Mountain  which normally takes its guests on a trip to the frontiers of space in its rocket ships (unless you are about to visit the resort during the upcoming Halloween Season, when their will be a spooky overlay to be enjoyed on Space Mountain).

Interested and willing to see things you were never supposed to see? Then… (more…)

Ghosts Take Over Space Mountain

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

HongKongSpaceMountainGhostsDisney and Halloween, it’s the perfect combination and always a lot of fun. One of these fun changes during a Halloween season was the “Ghost Galaxy” Space Mountain overlay in Hong Kong Disneyland back in 2007. This time the ghosts will come to the original Disneyland park to take over Space Mountain.

The Halloween celebration with the ghosts take over will take place from September 25th through November 1st.
