The Return of the Muppets

Saturday, May 9th, 2015

muppetsK1After two successful Muppet movies we now finally will get a Muppets show back on TV. “It’s about time” fans would say. The last Muppets series dates from 1996 when ABC aired 10 episodes of ABC’s Muppets Tonight. A new series is long overdue.

But now the Muppet fans will get a new series. The new series is said to be a little more Adult orientated. It will be shot in a documentary format and will explore the Muppets’ relationships, romances, desires and disappointments.

At the helm of the series will be producer Bill Prady, known for the fantastic Big Bang Theory series. With such a name on the roster the Muppets must be a sure win. I know I’ll be watching!

Star Wars Live Action TV Series for ABC

Friday, January 11th, 2013

The rumor of a live action Star Wars television series has been out their for a while but with Disney now buying the Star Wars franchise it looks like it might finally become reality. EW has talked to ABC entertainment president Paul Lee who seems excited about the idea. There are already fifty scrips out there written by Battlestar Galactica’s Ron Moore. Those scripts have been sitting on the shelves for some year but could now be dusted off for future use.

The main problem in the beginning was money and ownership issues. Episodes where said to cost about $5 million each to produce. Not something that would make any decision easy! With the ownership now at Disney and ABC part of the Disney family the step to make a Star Wars Live TV show changes a lot. Full control of all aspect will be at one location and this could be that little push the project needed to get started.

There is not much known about the story that could be used. However, there are rumors that a favorite draft would be about rival families in the Star Wars universe fighting for control. The main location would be the subterranean levels of the planet Coruscant and a bounty hunter would be a main part of the story. Remember that this is only a rumor and that the project is in an early stage so all of this could still change.

Exciting times for Star Wars fans for sure. Not only will there be new movies but their might be a great TV show too. Can’t wait to see it all materialize!

SCREAM!

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

It’s not often that you’ll see horror movies and Disney movies fighting it out in the same category in a competition but at the Scream awards it is possible. Here, movies are up against each other to get the awards in some fun categories. There are 30 categories in total and it’s the public that decides. Visit the Scream site to vote for your (Disney) favorite.

Here a list with the Disney related nominations.

In Best Fantasy Movie we find Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story 3. Not only are they up against each other but they’ll have to fight against the awesome movie Kick-Ass and the Twilight Saga. The last one might win this, not because it’s the best but because of its followers it has.

Joe Jonas in ABC show

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Depsite having received a nomination for the Razzies Joe Jonas seems to have a growing interest in becoming an actor and not “limiting” himself to his career in music. The member of all brothers’ trio The Jonas Brothers whichDisney made into the latest pop-phenomenon for the audience of The Disney Channel and Radio Disney (after they had failed to come out big when Sony released their debut album), is going to guest star in one of ABC’s big Sunday evening shows: Brothers & Sisters. Whether one likes the music of The Jonas Brothers or has any interest in the brothers it is just amazing how well the various segments of The Walt Disney Company group manage to work together to create and now sustain the success of this band and even branch it out into new markets, as “Brothers & Sisters” surely is not the regular tv-fare of the fans of the band.

Joe Jonas should be showing up in two episodes later this season as the show (airing in the USA right after Desperate Housewifes) is preparing a two-part flashback in which viewers will be traveling back in time to meet the Walker siblings as young teens. So obviously the big question was who was going to play the younger versions of the family members of the Walker family around whom the show evolves. Which brings us back to Joe Jonas… (more…)

Lost at a Disney Theme Park

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

If you think Lost should be a Disney attraction you could sign a petition online. Die hard fans of the show started the petition and want the Lost attraction to appear in one of the Disney Theme Parks. ABC network, who brought us Lost, is a parent company of Disney making this wish a possibility. The petition has also some ideas added of what they want to see immortalized; The Frozen Donkey Wheel behind the Orchid Station testing chamber, The Swan station and Hatch ride, A submarine ride to Palu Ferry, Dharmaville Barracks, the Smoke monster, the Ruins, Jacob’s Cabin  and The Egyptian Statue and Jacob’s Lair.

Would you like to see this come alive too? If so you can sign the petition. So far 1500 fans signed it already.

However, personally, I don’t think Disney will make this one happen. There is no big appeal for the younger Disney fans and might not be as family friendly as Disney likes their rides. Also, even with the show being brilliant and setting a new bar for future TV show, with the show ending and no related projects being in the works it might get outdated very soon and would not be able to compete with other Disney classics in the parks.

Dirty Dishes from Desperate Housewives

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

It’s a desperate situation … while US-fans of Desperate Housewives can look forward to the final 6 episodes of season 5 (episodes 23 and 24 airing as back to back finale on May 17) here in Germany we are back in waiting position since Pro7 has decided to send the housewives into the “summer break” after airing episode 13 of season 5 last wednesday (which clearly is NOT a good episode to air before a multi-month break, since it includes NO cliffhanger whatsoever but comes across as a “filler”-episode instead).

So what am I supposed to do till this fall? Well, for now the jucy details from behind the scenes keep me entertained just as good as the show itself did recently … to learn what I am talking about read the rest of the post – but be warned there is at least one spoiler included regarding the character of Edie Britt (played by Nicolette Sheridan) – if you want to avoid the spoiler, return to this post after watching the (in the US) upcoming episode to be aired coming Sunday, April 19.

More Nominations for Disney

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

walle-s1The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror films has announced their nominations for the 35th Annual Saturn Awards that will take place on 25th June. Disney has also received some nominations for the Saturn awards. Four nominations go to “The Chronicles of Narnia; Prince Caspian” in the category Best Fantasy Film, Best Costume, Best Make-Up and Best Special Effects. Andrew Stanton got an nomination for Best Director for the Oscar winning “Wall-E”. “Wall-E” also scores an nomination in Best Animation Film. It is up against “Bolt” and “Kung Fu Panda”, but this time there is also “Madagascar: Escape to Africa”, “Horton Hears a Who” and “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” fighting in the same category for that price.

“Lost” (ABC) is nominated for Best Network Television Series and after just recently seeing the episode dedicated to John Locke I can see this one winning. This is not the only nomination for “Lost” as Matthew Fox is nominated for Best Actor in Television and Evangeline Lilly for Best Actress in Television. However Evangeline Lilly has to fight against Anna Paquin who is amazing in the fantastic vampire series “True Blood”.

Power Rangers not that mighty anymore

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

March 8 saw the premiere of the latest season of Disney’s long running children tv series “Power Rangers” (currently titled “Power Ranges R.P.M.”) but just the day before The New Zealand Herald reported that cast and crew of the show were informed that Disney would drop the show after the current season’s 32 episodes and end production. Thus after 17 seasons another chapter in the history of children tv comes to end. The show originally premiered on FOX as “The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” but moved to ABC and also selected Disney premium channels when it was acquired by Disney in 2003.

While Disney did not officially confirm the report it was taken up by various online and offline sources including The New York Post, according to which the tv show has become “passé” even so the toys still seem to sell rather well. In light of this it needs to be awaited whether dropping the tv show will have any impact on  the visits of the Power Rangers to the various Disney theme parks such as Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World and The Walt Disney Studios at Disneyland Resort Paris.

High School Musical – Get in the Picture

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Sunday saw the premiere of the latest entry to Disney’s High School Musical franchise: the series “High School Musical – Get in the Picture” reality show on ABC. The new series runs Sundays and Mondays and is presented by pop star Nick Lachey (no connection to the HSM franchise so far).

In HSM – GitP thousands of kids from all over the US are competing for their chance to become part of the HSM family. However, it is not a part in the upcoming theatrical feature HSM3 they are competing for but a contract to record two singles with Walt Disney Records and film a music video for one of the singles, with the music video being shown during the end-credits of HSM3.

60th Primetime Emmy Awards Nominations

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the 60th Primtime Emmy Awards nominations and Disney has some of their talent and productions in the running too.

In the category Outstanding Children’s Program Disney managed to get three of the five nominated entries. Hannah Montana, High School Musical 2 and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. While I would love to see The Suite Life win I think the title will go to HSM2.

Outstanding Choreography is another category where Disney is present. Again for High School Musical 2. This for the routines; ‘What Time Is It?’, ‘Fabulous’, ‘Work This Out’, ‘I Don’t Dance’, ‘You Are the Music In Me’, ‘For One’. Although not a fan of the High School Musical movies, I do understand they are nominated for this category. The choreography is good and fun, but will it be enough to win? Personally I hope that one of the three “So you Think you Can Dance” routines (either Hummingbird and Flower / ‘The Chairman’s Waltz” ,“Transformers / ‘Fuego” and “Table / ‘Sweet Dreams”) will make it as the choreography in this program is awesome. This show is proof that dance is an amazing art form, but unfortunately so many people still don’t (want to) see it.
