Tron Trilogy Rumors and News

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

It’s not a big surprise that Disney is looking at making 2 more Tron movies to complete a “new trilogy”. The movie made a global gross of $399 Million during it’s theatrical run. It’s a “small” profit on a approximately $340 million price tag (making and marketing costs combined), but enough to convince Disney to take it further. It also puts Joseph Kosinski on the map as the highest grossing first time director of a live action movie.

Another reason why a second and third movie is a good idea are the very good Toy sales! This might become yet another one of these Cars successes where the after sale of merchandise is the big money magnet. Add the DVD sale that has just started to the total and everybody at Disney, including their shareholders, will be more than happy. I know I am! Not just because of the positive news above, but especially for 2 more movies. Another nice success is the very popular music from the movie. Daft Punk’s soundtrack sold 615,000 copies world wide. Disney’s Blu-Ray 3D List for 2011

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

Disney has announced a list of titles that will be released on Blu-Ray 3D. Including in third list is The Liong King and Beauty and The Beast. Both will have their 3D debut on Blu-Ray.

Other titles for 2011 are the two newest movies Tron Legacy and Tangled. Also on the 2011 3D movie  list so far are; Bolt, Meet the Robinsons, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, G-Force and Chicken Little.

Disney plans to release over 15 3D titles this year. These movies will be added to Disney’s 3D available list that already includes Alice in Wonderland, Disney’s A Christmas Carol and Step Up 3.

New Mulan Movie

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

According to Hollywood.com the talented actress Zhang Ziyi from one of my all time favorite movies “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, the stunning “House of Flying Daggers” and the amazing “Hero” will be playing a live Mulan version in a feature movie. Zhang Ziyi might be known even more among the western audience for her roles in “Rush Hour 2” and the Oscar winning movie “Memoirs of a Geisha”

Zhang Ziyi was not nominated for an Oscar, but she did win a BAFTA for Best Performance by an Actrice in a Leading Role, the Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture, the MTV Movie Award for Sexiest Performance. She also won the Screen Actors Guild Award and the Satellite Awards for the same movie.

Zhang Ziyi will also produce the new Mulan movie for which she said secured an investment from Disney of $100 million. The movie will be shot in 3D and will be an English version. Production should start in October.

Mulan is still my favorite Disney Animation, so I am really excited to see the movie become a live version and to have a wonderful actrice star as Mulan herself. Can’t wait to hear more about this project.

Tron Anticipation

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

For the second week in a row Alice in Wonderland came up on top in the box office. During this second weekend my family and me went to see it. I was looking forwards to see the movie and, as expected, was not going to be disappointed. It was awesome, another gem from Tim Burton. But what really made my day was the trailer we got the see before the movie. Yes, it isn’t new and I’ve seen it already online, but to get to see it on a big screen was amazing. Even with the great feature movie still to come I couldn’t help myself dreaming away and thinking about what I had just witnessed watching the Tron Legacy trailer. Never ever has the anticipation been bigger to see a movie with this one.

Tron Legacy Trailer

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

The Tron Legacy trailer is available online and it looks great! You can watch a HD version via this link or you can visit the official Disney Tron site. While it did give me chills down my spine (I love Tron), I do have some doubts about the story set up. How is it possible the arcade was there filled with the games after all these years, how come electricity is still working and what about that hidden room? How come nobody noticed the room before and how is all the equipment still there… and working. Still, to give it the benefit of the doubt, and the fact that I am a big Tron fan, I’m sure there will be a good explanation and enough good stuff to make this movie ROCK!

Tron Legacy will be release on December 17 2010 in 3D.

The Return of Captain EO

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

MJ-EO-DisneyPosterA couple of months ago Disney had a private showing of the Captain EO movie for some of their executive and the Jackson family. Fans around the globe hoping this would indicate a return of the classic Disney attraction.

According to the Hollywood Reporter those hopes might come true as guests at Disneyland might get to see it again as of January.

This would be a fantastic tribute to Micheal Jackson and to this fantastic classic attraction which deserves a premium spot in the Disney theme parks. Obviously, from a business point of view, it’s the right time to revise this classic and to jump on the success wagon of the “This is It” production.

Disney Announces AWESOME Comic Con Schedule

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

SanDiegoComicCon2009One of the most amazing conventions ever is the San Diego Comic Con. I was lucky enough to have been there both as a professional comic shop owner (in a previous life) and a comic fan. There is always a lot to do, especially for the comic fans and the movie buffs. But Disney fans have every reason too to go and visit the convention. Disney has announced their plans for this years comic con (July 23-26) and will make sure their presence will not go unnoticed.

The most exciting news (for me) is that they’ll be showing some more TRON footage. The already bedazzled the crowd last year but I am sure that Disney will blow the fans away with the footage they’ll bring this year. This could be the first 3D footage of the movie! I am so excited… and I’m not even going (because, well, it’s on the other side of the planet. Or it sure feels like it).

The will also show footage of some of the other 3D projects they are working on. Alice in Wonderland and Disney’s A Christmas Carol. There will also be previews of The Princess and the Frog, Beauty and the Beast, Ponyo and the Toy Story Trilogy.

Disney’s Christmas Carol Poster

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

disneychristmascarolDisney has released the official poster of their Jim Carrey project, “A Christmas Carol”. The movie will be released on November 6 in Digital 3D and Imax 3D. (Via Yahoo Movies)

Jim Carrey is Ebeneezer Scrooge and will have Gary Oldman as his faithful clerk.

This is one of those stories with uncountable amount of movies (actually the counts for movies stands on 19 films and 43 Television adaptations). Also for Disney it’s not been the first time. Mickey’s Christmas Carol was released in 1983.
