How small can you make Disney figures? Small enough to fit inside the eye of a needle or on top of a fishhook! (Willard Wigan)

Building The Flying Dutchman: Mega Bloks Style

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

BuildShip1.jpgIf not on the blog or on DLP.Info, not in a Disney park or watching a Disney movie then I am playing with my son Jarod who just had his birthday (14th September) and was able to choose, with all the vouchers he got, this great Pirates of the Caribbean; Dead Man’s Chest “The Flying Dutchman” boat from Mega Bloks to build.

We were in for a great afternoon of Disney fun, so here is our “Building” report!

Fantasia Broom

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

BroomEbay.jpgAsk yourself the following three questions; Are you a FANTASIA fan (ore even more specific a Sorcerer Mickey fan)? Do you like one of a kind Disney collectibles that come straight from Walt Disney World? And are you a collector with some extra cash? If yes the item found on Ebay might be something for you.

Straight from the Disney-MGM Studios you can now own a Broom, created by the Disney imagineers, from the movie Fantasia. The Broom was used at the MGM Studios as a fountain and could be placed in your garden or near your pool.

See the Ebay entry for more picture. Bidding ends Sep-25-06 19:00:00 PDT, 5 days to go and the opening bid of $2500 has already been set (when I wrote this entry).

Inside the Magic

Friday, September 15th, 2006

InsideTheMagic1.jpgEvery Monday it’s the same story, the weekend is over and it’s back to work: the first day of the week, a mountain of work and nothing much to look forwards too. Sounds like a typical Monday to most of us, unless you work the weekend or have irregular shifts.

So, how to improve the Monday? Easy, or at least it is for me. I come to the office, put on the PC and start working… but not before I open the Inside the Magic Podcast site. I check if the new podcast is live, click on the link and start listening under the headset. No Monday feeling anymore, I still have to work but with a little magic on my ears.

Disneyland Resort Paris trip report; buying the same book twice

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

FromSketchToReality.jpgIf there is only one Disney book you could own it has to be “From Sketch to Reality” by Didier Ghez and Alain Littaye. This book is amazing, over 300 pages filled with pictures and stories about the beautiful Disneyland Park in Paris. It has all the artwork and Imagineering secrets collected in a masterpiece. There is up to today no other book created for any of the other parks as this one for the Paris Park. I was very lucky to meet Didier Ghez when the book’s first edition was produced, had a real nice chat and had my book personalized. (Thank you Didier)…

Warehouse Magic

Monorail1.jpgFor many Disney collectors no introduction is needed when talking about Mousesurplus; a company, based in Orlando, specialized in buying and selling Disney World memorabilia. They even have a Mark IV Red monorail for sale.

Dreamfinder Forever has visited the new Mousesurplus location and brought back a collection of pictures of all the goodies that will make the Disney collector’s heart skip a beat. You’ll see the Monorail car, Mr Toad Vehicles, Snow White Scary Adventure vehicles, AstroJet, Pinatas from the Mexico pavilion at Epcot, Show props, Hotel Items, the life size Walt Disney Statue, and a whole lot more.

As a collector myself I would love to walk around that place one day…

Mickey Mouse GOLD!

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

MickeyGold.jpgYou might wonder if gold is still a good investment with the price it is going for at the moment. In 2001 you would pay about $275 an ounce, today that will be around $600. (If I only knew 5 years ago). Who says $600 it the top price? I have no idea what will happen in the next 5 years with the gold prices. (I guess for that you’ll have to find some specialist analysts).

If you decide to invest in gold and you’re a Disney fan maybe you want to buy 1,500 troy ounces of 24-karat gold (0.9999 fine).

If 1,500 troy ounces is what you’re looking for then why not get it in a form of our beloved Mouse?

No more Pin Trading Events at the hotels

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

DisneyPinWeb1.jpgFor some, Pin trading is part of a Disney holiday while there are others who still wonder what the collectors see in this little pieces of metal. I do collect them myself but narrowed it down to Halloween and the once I like. I used to try to get more, but as I cannot be at the parks all the time missed out on the once I collected or wanted and started to cut down. Sure, Ebay is a place to go if you want to get some, but with some of the prices being doubled I could not bring myself to buying them. As I wanted to keep it fun I now get what I like on my trip, with Halloween being the main interest.

It looks like I am not the only one thinking like this as Disney decided to end most of their pin trading events in the Walt Disney World Hotels. Although Disney doesn’t say why they end the events but they do admit that he number of visitors was going down.

Pirates Skull Car

Friday, July 21st, 2006

PiratesToy1.jpgToday I found a strange kind of Disney “Pirates of the Caribbean” toy in Toys’R’Us. The toy is a car in a form of a skull, not really looking like anything that is related to the movie it is borrowing the name from.

There must have been about 8 different cars in this set, most of them in form of a skull or embodied with skeleton.

The toy car is produced by the company Simba and it looks like it’s only for the European market.

Playing with Cars

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

CarsRC1.jpgWhat boy doesn’t like to play with cars? There will not be many. So with Cars out in the cinema, and merchandise being sold out at many location (so it seems when people talk about it) it proofs that cars is a real “toys for boys” hit. I must admit, I did check on those Cars toys myself and I’ll be getting something related to it on my next planned Disney visit. I hope I can choose from all the goodies (if not sold out)

If you like remote controlled Cars check out RadioShack Corporation. They just released a collection of Limited edition 1:16 scale RCs and 1:64 scale ZipZaps micro Radio Controlled Cars from the Disney/Pixar production. I am sure many boys’ hearts would beat a little faster when seeing those toys. And I am not talking about those children’s hearts only, I am sure some dad’s might be skipping a heartbeat to…

Happy Meal toys = $$$

Wednesday, June 14th, 2006

ForbesMcDonalds1.jpgWhat do you do when your Ebay stockroom has 10.000 McDonalds toys. You rub your hands together and smile because Disney McDonald toys are the hot items at the moment and a profit is coming your way. Prices have doubled, even tripled since the news spread that Disney’s contract with McDonalds would not be extended.

it was a May 8 story in the Los Angeles Times that really sparked sales. Before that article, eBay reports that sales of Disney Happy Meal toys were in the single digits. In the last week of May, that number jumped to 27, and it nearly doubled during the first week in June.

The average price spiked too. During the last week in May, the average price was $4.26; a week later, it was $7.75; and a week after that, it reached $13.33.

You can read the full story on Forbes.com, but don’t believe everything they say…

For ten years, the two companies had a match made in corporate heaven through the cross-promotion of Happy Meals and Disney films, showcasing characters such as Shrek, Winnie the Pooh and Cinderella in the colorful fast-food boxes.

Disneyland Haunted Mansion Bleuprints from 1969

Thursday, June 1st, 2006

HMbleuprintEBAY.jpgIf you’re a Haunted Mansion fan and a collector this might be something for you; a blueprint of the beloved ghostly ride from Disneyland. The Blue print pieces are officially hand stamped by building officials from the city way back in 1969 and come framed. All you need is $4500 or give the seller a fair offer.

Looks nice, something that would fit on my wall, in case you’re looking for an early Christmas gift for me :-)

September is Tower Of Terror month

Thursday, May 11th, 2006

TowerDisneySea-X1.jpgNow here is a great picture on a Disney Calendar. The Picture comes from the official Tokyo Disney Resort Fanclub calendar and was send to us by Xavier M. (Thank you). It shows the Tower of Terror at DisneySea on the page of month September, the same month first guest will be able to ride the new attraction. The picture in the calendar looks great, it proofs that you not always have to dig into the archives and use old pictures for a calendar, like they seem to do at Disneyland Resort Paris, but that you can share upcoming new attractions with the fans in a newly created picture like the one shown here.

What a way to promote a new ride. Using a calendar, giving fans early access to what to expect, and for sure a great reminder to book a next visit to be at the park during the opening of the new adventure.

TowerDisneySeaEyes-X1.jpg

Interesting on the picture is the ghost showing at the left hand side. His eyes are glowing, looking down onto the people who are riding the elevator, promising a new story for the attraction. And looking at the peoples faces, it looks like Disney wants to go the scary road with this one…

I am thinking maybe Tokyo should be my next Disney destination.

One happy meal please… without the Disney toy!

Monday, May 8th, 2006

DisneyMcDo1.jpgWhen I go to McDonald’s it is for the Disney Toys that could be found in the Happy Meals. It is an excuse that will not work anymore in the future as Disney decided to stop the partnership with Magic M.

One reason, say multiple high-ranking sources within Disney, is that the company — which prides itself on being family friendly — wants to distance itself from fast food and its links to the epidemic of childhood obesity.
