Getting Ready to Celebrate 40 years of Magic

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

It’s still over a year away but it will be here faster as you might think. The 40th anniversary of Walt Disney World. So we can start to expect some news about this special Disney Milestone.

One department that will work hard to give the people something special for the celebration is the merchandising department. To nobodies surprise, we will get a lot of goodies with “40” written all over it.

A whole collection of new pins have been announced for the 40th birthday of Walt Disney World. Many of these pins will show some of the most beloved attraction and one of the many Disney classic figures like Mickey, Donald and Goofy. There will also be a very nice Cinderella Castle puzzle pin. The puzzle pieces will have artwork on them from different Disney posters. This pin set will be limited.

Tron: The Betrayal

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Tron is hot, so we expect to see a lot of Tron stuff appear the coming months. As a comic collector I am delighted to see a comic make it to the stands too. Marvel is releasing a Tron: The Betrayal comic book. It looks like the story in the comic will take place before the events in the upcoming Tron: Legacy movie.

Get a first look at the world of the upcoming Tron: Legacy! Following the events of the original Tron, the year is 1983 and Kevin Flynn is now in charge of Encom. He’s built it into the largest videogame company in the world. But that’s not all Kevin has accomplished – he’s also secretly built the Grid, a digital world filled with living programs! More than a place where he can race light cycles, it’s a place where he can build and test environments only limited by his imagination. But the Grid is far more complex than even its creator realizes, and even Flynn can’t be in two places at once. As this new world develops a life of its own, Flynn is going to first need the help of an old friend, a security program named Tron. Showcasing a key time of the mythology of the Tron world, part one of THE BETRAYAL will show the early days of the Grid, and the first appearances of the heroes and villains that will be seen in Tron: Legacy. Tron Hot Toys

Monday, July 19th, 2010

What happens when you combine two things I love? I get very exited! I love Disney’s Tron and can’t wait to see Tron Legacy (I’ll go and see it on day one) and I love action figures. So combine the two and my wallet will suffer. But now the news has been release that Hot Toys will also bring some Tron Legacy figures to the market. These action figures cannot be considered toys anymore as they are high standard and expensive collectibles. Hot toys is known for their amazing detailed figures and have proven more then once that they are the best. They sell for well over $100 a piece and even when they leave the shop will still do well on the secondary market as they are always released in a limited quantity.

At this time the create Action figures from Iron Man, Predator, Terminator and even Michael Jackson to name a few. Tron will be one of their newest license they will tackle. Cant wait to see the result of these figures. Make sure to visit the blog regularly as I will update it once we get to see some previews of these figures.

Disney ‘s San Diego Comic Con Exclusives list

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

It’s almost that time of the year again; The San Diego Comic Con. As usual there is a big list of exclusives that will only be sold at the convention (until they start to pop up on eBay). Here you’ll find a full list of everything exclusive Disney related.

Let’s start with Boom Studios. They are the people who bring you Pixar and Disney comics on a montly basis. Especially for the convention they added some real gems to their collection. They will have 3 blank cover comic books. These books can be used to have artist at the convention drawn something on it. Those books and the art on it makes them one of a kind. There will be a Toy Story #5 Get-A-Sketch, Cars #7 Get-A-Sketch and a The Muppet Show #7 Get-A-Sketch comic book. These three books will have a limited production run of only 500 copies each and will be sold for $20 a piece. This is without the artists drawings on it. Those that would like a drawing will need to queue with one of the artist and might have to pay another premium to get the art on the book.

There will be a TRON Zero G Light Cycle that will be able to ride on the walls and even upside down. 7,5” Impulse Projection Action Figures, TRON core vehicles, Deluxe Vehicles, iPod Docking station, TRON mouse and Keyboard. Tron San Diego Comic Con Exclusives

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

The San Diego Comic Convention is almost there and as usual we will get to see some great new stuff appear.

One thing that gets me very excited is the Tron exclusives. A “regular” Tron Legacy toy line will be released by the toy company Spin Master, but at San Diego there will also be some specials.

There will be a limited edition Die-Cast Sam Lights Cycle. The collectible will be limited to 3000 pieces and will cost $5. Not to bad for an exclusive. The second exclusive will be a Tron Vintage Figure. This will be a static figure and it will be from the original Tron movie.

The best about this figure is the packaging. It will come in an arcade style box, will be limited to only 1500 pieces and will retail for $40

Disneyland in Comics

Monday, March 1st, 2010

It looks like comics are a good investment. Imagine if you would have owned a Action Comics 1 (first Superman) or a Detective Comics 27 ( first Batman). They both have been sold in a high grade (grade 8.0 CGC for those interested) for $1.000.000 and more. Not to bad, especially if you would have been the owner. Imagine how many trips this could pay to Walt Disney World or another Disney park. Talking about comics, anybody still thinking the Marvel Disney deal was a bad thing? (although I think it’s a great deal for whole other reasons)

Disney  already had its share of comics and although non of them might bring in a million anytime soon, some of them are very collectible and if found in the right grade already come with a “nice” price tag. The first daily comic strip staring Mickey Mouse began on January 13 in 1930, but the first comic books appeared in 1940. They where published by Western Publishing through the Dell Comics Four Color label. The very first Walt Disney Comics and Stories from Dell would be a very nice item in any Disney addict collection. Even if you wouldn’t want to keep it it, valued at $30.000 (Comic Price Guide at the moment this article was written) it could pay for your next trip(s). Of course this when you have a high graded issue. Damaged issues are less valuable but could still be worth $2.000.

Minnie Mouse helps to Solve a Murder Case

Friday, February 12th, 2010

While most Disney news items or tidbits are fun and magical, occasionally one encounters a weird story. This story is about a very rare Minnie Mouse Key chain, only three of them ever made, that was stolen by a murderer from his victim.

When the key chain popped up at the suspects home the case for the investigators started to look strong and solid. This rare Disney memorabilia is now a key piece of evidence that could put a killer behind bars. To read the full story visit The Ledger website.

Gallery 8 – Walt and the Natural World

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

saddleHere another preview gallery with more Walt Disney gems.

Walt—who had a love of nature since his youth in Marceline—also ventured into live-action documentaries during the ‘40s and early ‘50s. The first of these was a nature documentary, Seal Island, a 27-minute account of the seasonal habits of seals that won the 1949 Academy Award™ for best two-reel documentary. Later documentaries in the series, “TrueLife Adventures” continued to focus on nature, while “People and Places” highlighted peoples and destinations around the world. (more…)

Gallery 6: The Late ‘30s to Mid ‘40s

Friday, September 4th, 2009

peruvianboyThis difficult period in Walt’s life included the deaths of his parents, a studio strike that threatened the company’s viability, and a period when the U.S. military used part of the studio as a base.  The company released Dumbo and produced training films for the military, public service shorts, and morale-
boosting films, and Walt embarked on a goodwill tour of South America to strengthen ties between the U.S. and Latin American countries. He later produced two Latin American-themed animated movies based on the trip.

telegramPhotos and union flyers from the 1941 Disney animators’ strike as well as samples of Disney films in support of the war effort will be among the gallery highlights.  Also on view will be original art from Dumbo and insignias that the Studios created for numerous regiments and squadrons.
