Exclusive Fastpasses
It has started. Reports are coming in that Hong Kong Disneyland has started testing a special “pay” fastpass service with immediate access to rides by paying a fee.
A few weeks back boards reported that Paris was selling an exclusive, 100 Euro, fastpass.Whatever the truth is, Disney has offered Fast pass percks for a while now.Any suite in DLRP always came with VIP fastpasses, which gave you access to any FP ride in a set window (something like from 11 to 18pm).Some rooms (DLH castle club and Nw York empire state club) actually come with an unlimited length of stay fastpass.
It is no secret that Walt Disney World has been toying with the idea (never officially unveilied though) that certain rooms (say suites in the top hotels like Floridian etc) might be able to select from their in room TV “tommorrows fastpasses”. Yet nothing so blunt as “pay for front of line access” (which is what other parks, Universal in the past and Six Flags still now) have done.
how shall it end and what is my opinion on it? There is no way to tell, nor how it will end or a personal opinion. As much as it might dilute and ruin the magic for some it is also true that anybody who can afford to pay it will enjoy it. But the coin is double sided and the pros and cons are just so many that I see Disney as really stepping into dark PR territory on this one
time will tell which resorts will follow and how…

Wow! You know, they could, like, layer the new fast passes, so you don’t have to pay so much to fastpass a fire engine ride on main street as you would to fastpass a ride on, say, Pirates of the Caribbean.
In fact, thinking about it more deeply, I can see about 5 levels of fast-pass prices! Maybe we should name them after the letters of the English alphabet, with ‘A’ being the lowest price, in honor of Hong Kong’s diverse heritage…

This is just sad. The magic destroyed right there.

It is almost certain to happen at some point. Disney needs the extra revenue and some people WILL pay for the privilege. Where that leaves ‘ordinary’ guests, though, is a completely different matter.

Why does Disney need the extra revenue? They were doing fine for many, many years. I call this greed.

Disney need the revenue because attendance is down, they are having to cut prices to attract guests and the economic situation continues to stop many people travelling. Sadly, it is just economics. But I doubt if this will have much impact o guests if and when they do introduce it. Universal have a paid-for system and it doesn’t seem to make wait times much longer at their headline attractions.
