Monorail Reopens

Monorail-01

Disney is reopening their Monorail system today after the fatal accident on Sunday. Cast Members have been informed that there are new safety sensors in place to monitor track switches.

“We have completed a thorough safety inspection and system checks to verify that it is safe to operate the monorail for our guests and cast,” Disney said. “We’ve added additional verifications of these track switch positions, supplemented our safety procedures and protocols for these operations, and communicated these changes to our Transportation partners.” (Orlando Sentinel)

There is also a video on youtube with an explanation of what could have caused the tragedy. The explanation is done by a former Monorail pilot.

This is just a sickening tragedy for all concerned. Our hearts go out to the family of the Cast Member who lost his life, and the rest of the CMs who were witnesses. If it was a human error, it will live with the person involved forever, and I can’t imagine the error ever being repeated. Just a sad, sad day in WDW.
