D23 … step by step IV
The second issue is out and has arrived at my doorstep. (Or should I say under my car porch as that’s where the postman left it). Although not being excited about it, after not liking the first one, I do had to open it immediately. It’s Disney after all and I couldn’t wait to see it, even if I thought it would not be any better then the first issue. But,… I was going to be pleasantly surprised.
Although I am a big fan of the parks and always hope for in dept park stories and secrets and hope to see something of the parks on the cover, I must admit that I was drawn to the nice Donald Duck cover first. “Donald Duck, 75 years of Mischief, mayhem & mirth!” was the appropriate title to the cover. But it was time to look inside and see if the book could change my mind… and somehow it did. It starts straight away with an article about the new Monster Inc. Attraction in Tokyo Disneyland and was followed with a look at the Disneyland Gallery in the next article. A very promising start.
Another promising article will be the one California Dreamin’ where fans are invited to have a look at what the Imagineers have in mind for Disney’s California Adventure. While I am sure most have been said on the world wide web, it’s nice to see the artwork for the plans in a “regular” magazine.
Unfortunately that’s it for the parks and might again not be enough to convince me completely to change my mind. But I must admit that I saw some non park articles come to my attention too. The Rapunzel one, Donald’s story and the article “It’s a Zoo”, about the animals that had visited the studios over the years. I also, just as I did with the first issue, love the photofiles series.
But there are some things I just don’t like to. The “Let’s make a kite” page is one of them. Also the measurements used for this and the previous book. I like my magazine the old fashion way, D23 is just unhandy to read and browse.
Never the less, it looks like an improvement to me, or maybe I didn’t expect much and was surprised on how this issue turned out. I guess I should have another close look at the first issue too…
Not sure if it will change my mind and if I will renew after 4 issues, but I am sure looking forwards to finish reading this and getting the next two issues too…

Hey Andy,
I love your blog! I just started to read it, but i’ve gathered already much more information than in any other blog or Disney-newssite. But what I like most of all, is that you include the news of ALL the parks, especially of our beloved DLRP
. Though DLRP is by far my favourite, I also like to be up to date about the other parks & learn more about the magic far far away (a.k.a Tokyo Disney Resort & Hong Kong
. And of course, everything they are scheming in sunny Burbank
. So keep up the good work, hopefully i’ll be able to visit your blog more frequently.
Groetjes
Sylvia
