Meet Miley Cyrus

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

…For a price that is!… But it’s for a good cause. If you head over to Ebay you can bid on a greet and meet with Miley Cyrus at the premiere of the new Disney movie BOLT. If you win you will be attending the premiere, arriving by chauffeured car and walk the red carpet to meet Miley for a chat and pictures. The meet will last somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes (only). However it includes a 3 day / 2 night Disneyland Resort visit for the winner( and up to 3 guests) and a five year membership to the official MileyWorld.com fan club.

At this time the highest bid stands at $4150. (for a maximum of 10 minutes). If the price is a little high but still want something personal from Miley you can also bid on some of her personal items and signed pictures. Personally, although all the money goes to a charity, I feel that paying so much money to see a star is a little over the top.

BOOM!

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Comics! I love them (and collect them), so I am very excited with the news that we will get some Disney/Pixar comics that will give us new stories about the characters we love. We will get Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Wall-E and the one I am most looking forwards too; The Incredibles.

If you are in San Diego right now make sure to visit the Comic Con where a first exclusive preview book is on sale at the BOOM! Booth (#2543)

To commemorate this historic partnership, BOOM! will be releasing a special preview book featuring sneak previews of upcoming projects using the characters from TOY STORY, FINDING NEMO, and MONSTERS, INC. Featuring commentary by Waid, this preview will give comic fans and interested parents a look at the quality comics BOOM! will be producing for a younger audience by the end of the year. (BOOM! Estelle Getty passed away

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Beloved actress Estelle Getty, who created the timeless role of Sophia Petrillo on the Disney / ABC hit series ”Golden Girls”, died on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, only three days before she could have celebrated her 85th birthday.

In her role of Sophia on “Golden Girls” she became a close family member to millions around the world, the Sicilian mother of us all - we loved with her, prayed with her and shared the most intimate moments of Sophia with her - especially when she swung her oversized purse, she tokk along for every ride. Like none other could have done Estelle Getty gave Sophia a heart, a soul and made us laugh every day again - whether we saw an episode the first time or on a re-run.

Estelle Getty had her breakthrough in Hollywood as Sophia after years of minor parts. The success on “Golden Girls” finally opened the doors for her to the big screen, where she stared in several movies including “Stop! or My Mom Will Shoot”, next to Sylvester Stallone. Mostly forgotten is that she had success on the theater stage as well, and nowhere else than on the Broadway, where she created the role of Harvey Fierstein’s mother in “Torch Song Trilogy”.

Her death on Tuesday morning ended her suffering from Lewy Body Dementia which she had ailed under for several years already. The team behind the Mousekingdom Blog wants to express it’s heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.

And to you, Estelle - Sophia: you will never be forgotten and always stay our big Sicilian mother … wait for us with your big purse…

Private DisneySea Visit

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

It would be a dream of many Disney fans; Having one of the Disney parks opened just for yourself (and you family). During the 25th anniversary of Tokyo Disneyland one family was lucky enough to be picked out of 1609 families who all submitted applications to be able to visit the park privately. Not even Michael Jackson had the whole park to himself when he visited…

In 1987, when singer Michael Jackson visited the park, people were barred from entering some facilities. But the anniversary event was the first time that the entire facility at Tokyo DisneySea or Tokyo Disneyland was reserved for only one family or individual… (Yomiuri)

High School Musical - Get in the Picture

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Sunday saw the premiere of the latest entry to Disney’s High School Musical franchise: the series “High School Musical - Get in the Picture” reality show on ABC. The new series runs Sundays and Mondays and is presented by pop star Nick Lachey (no connection to the HSM franchise so far).

In HSM - GitP thousands of kids from all over the US are competing for their chance to become part of the HSM family. However, it is not a part in the upcoming theatrical feature HSM3 they are competing for but a contract to record two singles with Walt Disney Records and film a music video for one of the singles, with the music video being shown during the end-credits of HSM3.

60th Primetime Emmy Awards Nominations

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the 60th Primtime Emmy Awards nominations and Disney has some of their talent and productions in the running too.

In the category Outstanding Children’s Program Disney managed to get three of the five nominated entries. Hannah Montana, High School Musical 2 and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. While I would love to see The Suite Life win I think the title will go to HSM2.

Outstanding Choreography is another category where Disney is present. Again for High School Musical 2. This for the routines; ‘What Time Is It?’, ‘Fabulous’, ‘Work This Out’, ‘I Don’t Dance’, ‘You Are the Music In Me’, ‘For One’. Although not a fan of the High School Musical movies, I do understand they are nominated for this category. The choreography is good and fun, but will it be enough to win? Personally I hope that one of the three “So you Think you Can Dance” routines (either Hummingbird and Flower / ‘The Chairman’s Waltz” ,“Transformers / ‘Fuego” and “Table / ‘Sweet Dreams”) will make it as the choreography in this program is awesome. This show is proof that dance is an amazing art form, but unfortunately so many people still don’t (want to) see it.

Happy Birthday Disneyland

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

And yet another candle can be added to the cake, now 53 to be precise.

Today, 53 years ago, Walt Disney opened his first park “Disneyland“, leaving his heritage to a world of dreamers, fans, and guests from all ages.

Happy Birthday Disneyland

“To all who come to this happy place - welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America… with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world. Thank you.” (Walter E. Disney)

Miss Minnie Piggie

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

If you’re a pig, living on a farm, your course in live is pretty much set from birth; You’ll get fed a lot and most probably, once fat enough, you’ll end up on somebodies plate! But if you’re a lucky enough pig and are born with a Mickey shaped birthmark on your back you might be very safe. One couple own a pig like this and want to make sure it has a long and healthy live.

Ideally, Miss Minnie Piggie would end up on a Disney-owned Florida farm and lead a pampered life in show biz (WISCnews.com)

Enchanted

Monday, July 14th, 2008

After a two week holiday we returned home with a nice tan and some beautiful new memories. While the first 10 days where a non Disney holiday (how is that even possible) at the Cote d’Azur, we ended up in Disneyland Resort Paris (of course). Although there where a lot of magical moments, one of them has totally stolen my heart.

The new Enchanted fireworks is awesome! Finally, after the (in my opinion) poor Wishes display, we got the fireworks this park deserves. The music is fitting, the fireworks are spectacular (and plentiful), the use of the projections on the castle look great (it didn’t work for me on the Wishes show) and the magic was definitely there. I applaud the creators of this amazing experience they are sharing with the guests, fans and Disney fanatics. Job well done!

Avoid the Disaster

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Here is a movie one should avoid to watch, like you should avoid to watch any so called parody spoof movies. (Show me 1 good one!); Disaster Movie. Before blowing your money on this one let me explain what you’ll get: Bad jokes, bad acting, bad movie! (and I say this with confidence even before watching the movie). So why mention it her? Just to show you the poster that includes a take on some Disney characters that will be spoofed in the movie. In this one it looks like we will get some High School Musical and Enchanted jokes (and hannah montana, who is included in the terrible trailer). How they relate this (and all other characters on the poster and the trailer) to a disaster movies I don’t know, unless they are just warning you for the disaster this movie will be.

Never judge a book by the cover, but in this case I think I can. My verdict; Avoid at all cost!

Tokyo Disneyland Hotel

Monday, July 7th, 2008

The grand opening for the new Tokyo Disneyland Hotel is planned for tomorrow, the 8th July, but one photographer already posted some pictures of the exterior and interior of the awesome looking hotel. The hotel looks amazing and adds some more magic to the already fantastic Tokyo Disneyland Resort. “Well done Mickey”… or should we say, “Well done Oriental Land Company

For a collection of awesomeness follow the link to the album filled with pictures of the new hotel.

More Mickey Mouse TV for Europe

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Europe is a massive market so expanding a brand their could bring millions of new costumers. Disney is well aware of that and is now looking into expanding their TV market in Europe. Obviously not completely new (like I can enjoy the Disney Channel on my Sky box), there is enough new viewers that can come on board. Disney is looking at a possible growth of 100 million households within 5 years…

The UK (via sky) and Spain for example already have a pay TV channel, but it could be that Disney might expand their TV market by offering a Free channel in other countries.

Donaldson files for Bankruptcy

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Donaldson stands for quality and expensive clothing. One of the reasons it was so high priced is the fact that they needed to pay Disney a lot of money for licences to use Mickey on their clothing. During the 80 and 90 they did this with big success, but recently they have been in financial trouble, ditched the Disney licence and tried to start over with a unknown dog as a new symbol for their clothing.

Unfortunately, saving on the Disney licence didn’t help them as they have just filed for bankruptcy. The Belgium company has been given some extra time to come up with a sollution (in comparison with the chapter 11 in the US).

I wonder if getting rid of Mickey was the way to save the company in the first place as you can’t say Donaldson without thinking about the Disney characters in the first place…
