Pleasure Island: Music Off, Lights Out, Doors Closed

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Most people who visited Walt Disney World will have visited Downtown Disney and will either have noticed Pleasure Island or even went to enjoy one of the clubs. Disney has announced they will change Pleasure Island and will no longer run nightclubs but will turn it into a more family friendly place. The last dance is set for September 27th 2008. After that, music off, lights out, doors closed.

Visit Every Disney Park in the Whole Wide World

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Most people who know me are used to my Disney rants, and those people that don’t know me get acquainted with it soon enough. Even when I go to a job interview, before the interview is over, somehow Disney “talk” is in it. One thing that comes up a lot in my Disney conversation is my love for the parks and how I want to visit all of them. Sometimes you’ll get a “really” or “sounds interesting” or even a “nice” (and my son things it would be “awesome”), but a lot of the time people look at me in disbelieve. But there are those people who not only love the idea, but have already fulfilled this dream.

Visiting every Disney theme park in the world may seem like an odd life goal for a child-free 30-something, but a wise person once said “for those who understand, no explanation is necessary; for those who don’t, none will do.” (The Salt Lake Tribute)

Disney Vacation Club’s new Headquarters

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

One who loves the Disney live might well be, or consider, living in Celebration. This town, not to far of Walt Disney World and created by Disney, might be the dream home for many Disney fans. Like every town expansion is something that happens once and a while, no difference for Celebration.

On the Celebration Blvd, there is one of those construction sites. On this new construction site, near LaRosa and the Medical Building, a new building is going to be the new Corporate Headquarters for the Disney Vacation Club. The contractor is Duke, who already worked on the Celebration Business Center.

Although our source is reliable, as far as we know there has been no known official word from Disney regarding this project yet. Any other information always welcome.

WDW Trip Photo book (photo 16)

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

It has been a while again, but there are plenty more pictures I want to show you and let’s be honest, if it’s about Walt Disney World we all love to see pictures. I know I do; I look for them on the web everywhere and then start dreaming away.

The picture I have chosen this time is a fun one as it has been taken from outside the park. It isn’t the first time I shown a picture from outside the park, just look at the Hallowishes picture (on Clickmagique’s PicParade), and browsing true my collection it might not be the last.

Here you can see Space Mountain while taking the boat ride from the Wilderness Lodge to the Magic Kingdom. Although the weather wasn’t totally on my side, and clouds spoiled the perfect pictures, I still think it’s nice enough to share here and to bring some ideas to those loving to take photos. Step outside the parks and discover all the other angles available to take your picture.

Ratatouille in Paris

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

As already mentioned on DLP.Info it’s only a rumor picked up from a CNBC article about the new Toy Story Mania ride, but Ratatouille mentioned to be the next Paris ride does sound exciting. If this will be the next Disney ride, Disney might well be back on track on bringing us exclusive rides for each Disney Park.

Lately we have seen clones pop up from rides already out there (Soarin for Walt Disney World, Buzz Lightyear made its way into Paris, Tower of Terror concurred all resorts, etc) and with (old or new) rumor suggesting even more clones (Crush’s Coaster clones for the US, more Soarin for Paris, etc), future Disney cloned rides are expected. But with Expedition Everest, Crush’s Coaster (not cloned yet), Mission Space or even whole new park concepts like Tokyo’s DisneySea, Disney proofed again and again that putting out something new and never been done before is a guarantied success. Although the clones do bring success (like the Tower does everywhere), it is nice to see that Disney still takes the road of innovative new attractions.

less Airplane Seats

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Soaring oil price is having an impact worldwide. It can be for private use to heat your home, to get to work by car or traveling the world. The impact is felt by everybody…

Obviously airplane tickets are getting more and more expensive too and many people will not be able to afford to buy themselves a trip by plain. Airline companies are getting prepared to fly out less people then they did a year ago and are scrapping seats.

All told, data collected by the Official Airline Guide estimates that by October airlines will provide 50,244 seats per day to Orlando International Airport, a 10.2 percent decline from the 55,950 available in October 2007. That’s the 10th largest decline in the country.

NASA and Disney: Science and Technology

Friday, June 20th, 2008

NASA and Disney want to get schoolchildren interested in science and technology. They signed an agreement where they will explore the possibilities to awaking the interest with the use of Disney/PIXAR’s newest creation WALL-E…

“All of us at Disney are delighted to be working with NASA in their educational and public outreach efforts to teach schoolchildren about space exploration, robot technology, and the universe they live in. WALL-E is one of the most lovable and entertaining characters that Pixar ever has created, and he is the perfect spokes-robot for this program. (SpaceRef.com)

Animatronics Again

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Looks like the news about the outsourcing of Disney’s Audio Animatronics isn’t that new at all.

A company named Garner Holt has already been working on Disney Audio Animatronics. They did the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay at the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland.

CIFX, another company, did some work on DCA figures and for the Winnie the Pooh Dark Ride.

Goodbye Audio Animatronics

Monday, June 16th, 2008

If you say Audio Animatronics its very likely you will use Disney in the same sentence. Walt pretty much invented the figures, improved them and made it part of Disney’s most important inheritance. Imagineers have been updating, re-inventing and shown the world some amazing new advanced Audio Animatronincs. Look at the road it made from using the term for the very first time in 1961, opening the Enchanted Tiki Room in 1963 and the trademark filed in 1964. Look at the New York fair (again 1964) with the Audio Animatronic of Lincoln, It’s a Small World, Carousel of Progress and a list that kept on growing and growing every year with rides as Pirates of the Caribbean to Lucky the Dinosaur and up to Toy Story Midway Mania today…

This weekend however a internal memo where Disney informed employees that they will start outsourcing some of their Audio Animatronics to third parties was forwarded to OC Register.

Disneyland Trip with Ken Levine

Friday, June 13th, 2008

What happens when an Emmy winning writer/director/producer/major league baseball announcer goes to Disneyland and writes about it? You get funny anecdotes and a little different view of a Disneyland trip.

Gas prices are so high that for the Autopia, the cars are now just being pushed by Disney employees.

In a nod to health conscious California, Disneyland eateries now serve healthy food along with the usual fast food junk. My wife ordered a salad. It was the third one sold this year!

The irony of the Indiana Jones ride is that Harrison Ford probably can’t ride it. It’s way too violent and rugged for a 66 year-old man. (The World As Seen By a TV Comedy Writer)

You can read the full story here and if you want to know more about Ken Levine (who worked on MASH, Cheers, Frasier, Simpsons, Dharma & Greg) check out his profile here.

Free Disney Movies Online

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

If you don’t mind watching a movie on your PC you might find the following Disney news interesting. Disney will stream full length movies via their website Disney.com.

The movies will be on Disney.com from Monday through Friday after their ABC broadcast the preceding Saturday night as “Wonderful World of Disney” presentations. “Peter Pan” will be the last movie to stream, ending its run August 8. (Yahoo News)

The other movies you’ll be able to see online are “Monsters, Inc.”, “Haunted Mansion”, “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen”, “Princess Diaries 2″ and “Freaky Friday”. Personally I will not watch the movies online, I might be a little old school here (although a Semi-PC Geek), the movies, I like to watch them on a TV set. On the other hand, I do think it will be a success to a whole new generation that uses their PC for all media.

Walt Disney World 3D

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Google Earth is offering Disney fans, guest and those planning a trip the chance to visit a virtual Walt Disney World and I finally got the chance to look at it myself. So far I visited the Castle, Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain, Tower of Terror and Test Track. I even “walked” into Test Track (but the building is empty)

Highly addictive and fun, but will also make you dream about being there even more.

After downloading make sure to enable 3D Buildings, otherwise you will not be able to enjoy the 3D settings.

Wall E in Russia and France

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

It is always interesting to see how some movies get presented in other countries. Trailers, news and poster can vary by country where it is released. The same happened for Wall-E. If you visit io9 website (a great site for the SF fans) you see a great poster used in Russia to advertise the new PIXAR movie. The romantic tone is taking over on this poster.

France is also going on the romantic tour with a special trailer where Wall E is doing his best to show his love for EVE. The trailer is set on the “Love Is In The Air” song and is real fun to watch. Although it looks like EVE has an Evil side,… just have a look at her “eyes”.

4 more Russian Posters can be found at PIXAR.blog, including the US poster so you can compare and choose what is, in your opinion, the best design.

Aren’t You a Little Short for a Stormtrooper?

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Picture Copyrights StarWars.comFor those that have been to Disneyland Resort Paris might already know the quote used in the amazing Cinemagique attraction in the Walt Disney Studios. Now Walt Disney World guest who will be going during the Star Wars Weekends at the Disney Hollywood Studios will be able to wear the quote when they buy the T-Shirt. The T-Shirt will not be related to the Paris ride, but will portray Mickey in a Stormtrooper outfit and Minnie popping the question. This is only one example of the great merchandise Disney and Star Wars fans will see during the Star Wars weekends. Yet again, like every year, collectors will love all the goodies offered during this yearly event.

Read on to find a list of all the collectibles for this years Star Wars Weekends.

Universal Studios Hollywood Backlot Devastation

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Yesterday a devastating fire has destroyed a mayor part of Universal Studios Hollywood’s backlot area. While firefighters did a tremendous job trying to control and save some of Universal heritage, the losses are still big. The King Kong attraction is destroyed as well as most of the sets from New York and New England Streets. The cause of the fire will be investigated. So far the news speaks of an explosion, but no further information is know yet. However, the famous Clock Tower Building from the Back to the Future fame has not been burned down as earlier news reported.

You can see a full news report, including a video of the flames tearing down the buildings on ABCnews and a collection of pictures on the BBC website. If you visit Screamscape you’ll find a “before and after” picture of the backlot area.
