Dawn Treader to set sail with new director
As reported earlier today the Narnia Chronicles keep Disney rather busy right now with all the promotion going on for the second installment of the series (Prince Caspian), which opened only past weekend, but also with the pre-production for the third movie of the series “The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader”. John Griffin of The Gazette now got the first scoop on the 2010 Narnia movie from Andrew Adamson, director of the first two installments of the series (as well as Dreamwork’s Shrek and Shrek 2 - which the article accidentially credits to Disney <g>)…
According to the article in Montreal’s Gazette Andrew Adamson, who not only directed both Narnia movies released so far but also functioned as co-producer and co-writer of the second installment in the series, will hand over the director reigns to someone else and will “limit” himself to being the producer. The article cites him saying:
“This last project has been three years in the making. What with the two sets of films, it’s been nearly 12 years. Now I’m going back to New Zealand to relax [...] I’m passing the directorial reins on for the next instalment, though I will keep my hand in as a producer. It’s been a real labour of love, and I do find it hard to let go. I always worry they’ll find out I’m still a 13-year-old at heart.”
So the question now becomes: who might this new director be? With the planned for 2010 summer opening of the movie a decision shouldn’t be too far off … and Narnia fans should get something to ponder about … well, certainly only once they have discussed the current movie … or in my case here in Germany: waiting for the opening of the movie in July.
