Disney Cruise and DLRP?

Last year’s visit of the Disney Cruise Line to the Mediterranean wasn’t much of an event for the European markets. Sure DLRP did do a small event in Spain but due to the selection of invited press the event pretty much turned into a non-event. What could have been the big entry of the Disney Cruise Line into Europe’s booming cruise market (especially Germans are more and more turning to this type of vacations) and could also have opened a new market for DLRP of guests combining a Disney cruise with a visit to DLRP just didn’t do anything.

However, Disney seems to have confidence that there is a market for the Disney Cruise Line in Europe. I sure don’t know whether they think they need to compensate for the failed event last year (and need to prevent a repeat of such failure) or whether they just continue on a long ago determined strategy. In any case Disney Cruise Line last week announced it would open an office with 20 cast members in London this summer. Some of the 20 – though not all – will actually transfer from the Florida offices to London, where the business will be steered by Tom Wolber, Disney Cruise Line’s senior vice president.
According to the Tourism Central Florida blog of the Orlando Sentinel “spokeswoman Christi Erwin Donnan said Disney Cruise Line is hoping to increase its presence internationally. The London office will also ensure Disney is ‘well-positioned to tap into the European market and competitively recruit new talent'”.
