Me Tarzan, You Jane, Who Viewer?
As an add-on to my earlier review of the third episode of “Me Tarzan, You Jane” I have to report about the ratings of the episode - and those are even worse than the actual tv show. While the show was able to gain some ground from an entertainment point of view it seems the tv audiences have given up on it - and who couldn’t understand this considering the first two episodes? The third episode managed to attract pretty much the same number of viewers as thes econd episode, to be “exact” 1.37 million viewers (in all age groups) equaling a total marketshare of 4.4% (see report by Quotenmeter).
As a comparison: the first “top 10″ show of the fifth season of the German “Pop Idol” on Saturday managed to attract an audience of 3.42 million in the important age group of the 14 to 49 year old, equaling a market share of 29.6% as reported by Quotenmeter. Looking at the overall numbers the show even managed to attract 5.38 million viewers! These are the numbers of a successful casting show! For a prime time show on a major free-tv network the ratings of “Ich Tarzan, Du Jane” are inacceptable im comparison. So the question is: what will they do next? Will they hope that word about the improved (but far from stellar) entertainment factor of the show is going to be spread around by those 1.37 million viewers - or are they going to move the show to a different time slot or might they even cut the season short by a few episodes to reduce their losses??
