Look at this trove, treasures untold…

… How many wonders can one cavern hold Looking
Looking around here, you’d think
Sure, sh’s got everything
I’ve got gadgets and
[glitches] a-plenty…

Sorry to interrupt Ariel, but “glitches”? Shouldn’t it be “gizmos”? Ok, bad pun, I admit it … but I couldn’t resist. Sorry? You don’t know what I am talking about. OK, guess I should start telling the story from the beginning.

Originally I wanted to entertain you all with a short report about the Original Broadway Cast recording of Disney’s The Little Mermaid that was released last week.

You see, I wanted to tell you that I just had placed my order through amazon.com and that you by doing the same could a) help us pay the bills for the server for this blog and b) could own the latest incarnation of the Disney musical that started the second golden age of Disney Animation. Heck, I even wanted publish the link to the online store of Playbill for all readers in the US. That way you would learn that Playbill offers an exclusive picture disc edition of the Original Broadway Cast recording which otherwise is only sold in the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in New York City, Ariel’s home on the Broadway.

I wanted to rave a bit about the vocal performances of Sierra Boggess in the title role of Ariel. I might have even said something about Sean Palmer as Prince Eric, Norm Lewis as King Triton, Tituss Burgess as Sebastian, Eddie Korbich as Scuttle, Jonathan Freeman as Grimsby, Derrick Baskin as Jetsam, Tyler Maynard as Flotsam, Cody Hanford and J.J. Singleton as Flounder and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Aida veteran Sherie Renï Scott as the evil sea witch, Ursula. Sure I wouldn’t have presented a full review - afterall I would still be waiting for my copy.

But unfortunately for now this post stays unwritten … instead I have to point you (and this brings us back to the introduction, in which I cited from Ariel’s “Part of Your World”) to a recent thread over on the MagicMusic board (THE place to frequent for all Disney music fans and one of the few places for which I always made sure to have time besides the Mousekingdom blog and DLP.info).  Topic of the thread are several glitches that were discovered in the CD release as well as the material available for Download from iTunes in the song “Part of Your World”.

So now I have a post here with which to warn you so that you are aware of what you will be getting when you buy the CD (or the download). Which, as I may point out, can still be a great showcase of the songs and the performances - albeit one with technical problems the engineer and producer should have corrected. Too bad that Disney seems to have rushed the recording to the stores. I guess at least for the time being we are now stuck with a faulty recording. Recalling all CDs would most probably be prohibitive expensive. On the other hand - considering the potential image damage it might not be too expensive…

My reaction personally? I am holding out on buying the CD for now … there are other CDs out there (even from Disney) without glitches which I still have on my shopping list. But I do know myself: I am goping to buy it sooner or later, even if they don’t correct the mistakes. What about you? Will the glitches stop you from ordering the CD??
