In the pipeline
In my first post yesterday (yep, I am back … finally after several weeks crushing under the workload unrelated to this project and DLP.info) I mentioned that Disney in all its different animation units is busy and has various projects under preparation for the coming years. I didn’t go into any further detail as I assumed that most of you already know the list and would be bored … but after I got some questions … let’s take a look what is known to be in production or development:
Certainly there are numerous rumors on various blogs and sites, not to mention the real word of mouth. I don’t even want to try to sum all of those up, especially since I am in no position to judge on their credibility. BUT there is that great TAG blog … a daily must-read for anyone interested in animation. It published one of its Toon Studios Overviews of projects in various Los Angeles area studios nearly two weeks ago.
Since the TAG blog in these overviews only lists projects that have been confirmed by the studios or execs or those that have been leaked out before and have a certain credibility to them, let’s look what the TAG blog lists for Disney:
Disney Animation Studios has Bolt scheduled for a November 2008 release, and a sizable animation and tech crew as story and character revisions give way to pedal-to-the-metal production. Early animation has commenced on Princess and the Frog as story work goes on, with Rapunzel also in story. (Joe Jump and King of the Elves are two features in early development…)
Disney Television Animation winding down The Replacements, continuing on Phineas and Ferb, Inspector Oso Yin Yang Yoh!. My Friends Tigger and Pooh, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse striding on to new seasons (in other words, still going.)
Disney Toons continuing with Tinkerbells 2 & 3
Unfortunately the TAG Blog has no word from Pixar, still the list shows an impressive collection of projects … and clearly shows that there is no capacity left with the current crews to do a whole project in time for 2010 as the one of Verbinski.
On a sidenote: Chris Sander’s (of Lilo & Stitch fame & success) latest project “Crude Awakenings” is listed at DreamWorks Animation only in the categorie “in various phases of work”.
