The Big Thunder Mountain Movie
After the success of The Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy it doesn’t come to a surprise that Disney is trying to turn more of their attractions into a new and future movie concepts.
We know about the Jungle Cruise project (planned for a 2007 release but after different delays and changes being prosponed for a later date) being one of them, but now Disney has registered some new domain names that are very interesting (or not, depending how you like the idea of Disney attractions turning into movies)

While Pirates worked and would still work for multiple new movies I am a little worried a BTM movie might end up in a Haunted Mansion movie category. (I tried to watch the movie a second time, giving it a second chance, but it was hopeless. Proofing that an awesome ride doesn’t make a good movie) On the other hand, if Jim Hill is correct, Disney is trying to lurk Bruckheimer into producing the movie and we all know what he can do.
Other future productions, already building on its success, are more National Treasure movies. Again Disney registered some domains where a part 3 and 4 could be in the planning. Although I am sure part 3 will come, registering the domain name doesn’t mean anything. They can register it just to make sure nobody would do so before them.
Make sure to check out Jim Hill’s article on the new domain’s where he also looks at the possibility of a cross over from Pirates into National Treasure.
Wouldn’t it be funny if — when Benjamin Gates arrived at the Fountain of Youth — he then found Captain Jack Sparrow and Barbossa ? It could be the Disney version of “Alien vs. Predator.” (Jim Hill)
But comparing anything with “Alien vs Predator” doesn’t sound good to me. That movie was one of the worst I have ever seen.

Let’s hope that disney doesn’t take it TOO far. Pirates was a hit, and was well done, but look at the Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy…I don’t see how it’d work, but I suppose you will have to wait.

Well…so far Disney seems to be 1 for 2 in the ‘take an existing ride and make a movie out of it’ stakes. I think they might have more sucess creating a backstory movie for Space Mountain than for Big ThunderMountain.
Correction….they are really 1 for 3…there is also that somewhat hard to find backstory movie made for Tower of Terror with Steve Gutenberg in it. Hmm…some things should NEVER be attempted!
