Killer Pooh

humokillerpooh.jpgOne of my favorite characters you’ll find in my personal top three is Tigger. Not only do I love Tigger, I am very fond of Pooh himself too. Can you imagine the faces of the people visiting us when they saw 4 pooh bears sitting in our sofa but no children in the house? Pooh is still there, but now, with my son running around in the house, people see it as normal. With pooh being close to my heart it hurts too see him being used abusively on a cover from a Belgium magazine. The magazine Humo is using him for an article related to “near death experiences”. Unfortunately Pooh is being portrait with a hammer in his hand pounding on Piglet. Including in the cartoon you see the blood flowing because of the impact of the blows given to piglet by his “friend”.

While the Disney company is not amused and is looking at what their next steps will be, the people of Humo are defending their actions as a drawing with enough similarities to the original, but enough differences so people know and understand it’s a parody.

I believe in freedom of speech, and believe that if people want to express themselves in their own ways it should be possible without limitations, but I think using pooh like this was wrong. Adult might see the joke in it, but many children will get to see the cover from this widely distributed magazine that can be found on the lower shelves of the local magazine stores and these children will not understand why Pooh would be doing such a thing.
