The one thing I love the most about Disney are the parks. I love them all (although not seen them all yet) and try to read as much as possible about them. If it books about visiting the parks, building the park (rides) or its history and if its out there I have either read it, its waiting on my shelve to be read, or I’ll pretty much have it on my “to order” list. Of course there is also a lot to be found on the Internet regarding the parks, and most interestingly are those articles where an imagineer talks about his or their work.
About.com ThemePark has an article where the writer talked to Tony Baxter, an Icon when it comes to Disney Imagineering. He talks about his early days, how he came to work for Disney, about the rides he worked on, the darker periods, Space Mountain in Paris and much more. He also mentioned how “The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man” that can be found in Islands of Adventure became the next big thing…
The ultimate challenge…was Spider-Man and its synchronized motion base with 3-D [filmed scenes]. We looked at that and we started experimenting. Now, we have something that goes beyond that–but we won’t talk about it. (Themeparks About)
