The Dream Suite

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

dreamsuiteviaocregister1.jpgVisiting Disneyland during the next couple of months? Maybe you’ll be the lucky winner of a “Year of a Million Dreams” price and you will be able to stay at the Dream Suite on New Orleans Square.

The best part; The unobstructed view of Fantasmic from the balcony. Pictures of the new apartment have been released and the place looks awesome (could it have been any other way?)

Tony Baxter and Lots of Disney Stuff

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

The one thing I love the most about Disney are the parks. I love them all (although not seen them all yet) and try to read as much as possible about them. If it books about visiting the parks, building the park (rides) or its history and if its out there I have either read it, its waiting on my shelve to be read, or I’ll pretty much have it on my “to order” list. Of course there is also a lot to be found on the Internet regarding the parks, and most interestingly are those articles where an imagineer talks about his or their work.

About.com ThemePark has an article where the writer talked to Tony Baxter, an Icon when it comes to Disney Imagineering. He talks about his early days, how he came to work for Disney, about the rides he worked on, the darker periods, Space Mountain in Paris and much more. He also mentioned how “The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man” that can be found in Islands of Adventure became the next big thing…

The ultimate challenge…was Spider-Man and its synchronized motion base with 3-D [filmed scenes]. We looked at that and we started experimenting. Now, we have something that goes beyond that–but we won’t talk about it. (Themeparks About)

Killer Pooh

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

humokillerpooh.jpgOne of my favorite characters you’ll find in my personal top three is Tigger. Not only do I love Tigger, I am very fond of Pooh himself too. Can you imagine the faces of the people visiting us when they saw 4 pooh bears sitting in our sofa but no children in the house? Pooh is still there, but now, with my son running around in the house, people see it as normal. With pooh being close to my heart it hurts too see him being used abusively on a cover from a Belgium magazine. The magazine Humo is using him for an article related to “near death experiences”. Unfortunately Pooh is being portrait with a hammer in his hand pounding on Piglet. Including in the cartoon you see the blood flowing because of the impact of the blows given to piglet by his “friend”.

IllumiNations: The SkyDance; Yes or No?

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

skydancedondorseywebsite.jpgMore than a year ago I already added a little entry in this blog about a possible new IllumiNations show being under development for Epcot. One of the people involved would be the talented Don Dorsey, who should be no stranger to us Disney fans. He has been involved in the current version of the IllumiNations show but has also worked on Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade, Sorcery in the Sky and was audio recording and post-production engineer for the Entertainment Division of Disneyland Park from 1975 up to 1992.

WDW Trip Photo book (photo 8): Tomorrowland Transit Authority

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

viewsfromtta_small.jpgAahh… the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. I can’t help it but this is one of my favorite rides in the Magic Kingdom. It is also the ride I did the most on my last trip. Sure, it can’t compete against The Haunted Mansion, but I am sure it would pretty much be in my Magic Kingdom Attraction top 3.

Why? I don’t know? I guess it is relaxing, enjoyable and just fun to do. I love the view you get when riding it, I love the displays you get to see and for some reason I love it when it goes through the Space Mountain building. I took a whole collection of pictures from the attraction and while riding the attraction this being my favorite one. I know, it’s not a piece of art, but it just reminds me  how I enjoy the ride and the great views you get…

The House of Peter Pan

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

peterpanhouse.jpgYou might not be able to live the life of Peter Pan but you can live in the house opposite Kensington Gardens park in central London where the story has been created by the writer James Matthew Barrie.

The 6 bedroom house is on the market for 6.75 million pounds (8.88 million euros, 13.22 million dollars).

Writer James Matthew (J. M.) Barrie lived in the house and met five boys in Kensington Gardens who inspired his creation at the turn of the 20th century.

As well as two large living and entertaining rooms the 3,377 square foot (313 square metre) Victorian home has a study, a dining room, a kitchen, while the bedrooms are adjoined by one en suite and a full-size bathroom, as well as two balconies. (Yahoo News)

The Winnie the Pooh Crew at a Tradeshow

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

poohtigger.jpgHave you even been to a tradeshow? I did, when I still owned my comic book store. I was lucky enough to be at the San Diego Comic Convention and on the New York Action Figures and Toys convention “Toy Fair“. Both times I did some great deals and was I able to take some dream stuff home that my customers loved.

However, never ever did I think of making a link between the tradeshow exhibitors and the Winnie the Pooh gang, but according to the following article you’ll find Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, owl and thier friend Christopher Robin somewhere between all the exhibitors…

High School Musical 3: Senior Year

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

vanessah1.jpgThe date has been set; High School Musical 3: Senior Year will be release on October 24. The usual cast, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu, and Monique Coleman, will be back for more new songs and dance moves; I wonder what will be, after the basketball and the baseball, the new sport song this time.

This time we will not get to see it on the Disney Channel (I love the Disney Channel), now all fans will have to go to the movie theater. After the success of the two previous movies a cinema release was unavoidable.

I am not a big fan of the franchise but I think my son will drag me to the movies to see it…

Is Russia coming to Epcot?

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

There is still enough room in Epcot to add a couple of more countries to the World Showcase. One of them could be Russia and if rumors are correct the new addition is closer then ever. I love the showcase and it would be nice to see some new countries added. Russia is a great choice, but where would they add it? Check out the Disney Blog and add your thoughts on the location! And then come back here to let us know what country you would like to see added.

I still think Belgium would be great; best chocolates, the country where the fries where born, we produce over 500 kinds of beer and lets not forget the waffles :-)

WDW Trip Photo book (photo 7): Hidden Treasures

Monday, January 14th, 2008

waterwheel-small1.jpgWhen visiting a Disney park you can see many guests running from one attraction to another, trying to do as many rides before they have to leave the park and while doing that they forget about the other great stuff that makes the magic. They forget to look around and enjoy the many details and hidden treasures.

I know, I said this before and I am sure I’ll say it again in the future, but that’s the difference between a Disney park and any other park out there; the details that add to the magic…

Who Needs $27.7 million?

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

If doing a job well, you get compensation! However I do have a little mixed feelings when I see what one person gets for his job, even if he did it well, even if he is the CEO…

27.7 million is what Robert Iger gets for his work in 2007. Not a bad paycheck I would say, but is it really necessary. Isn’t this a little over the top…

calculations of total compensation include salary, bonus, incentives, perks, any above-market returns on deferred compensation and the estimated value of stock options and awards granted during the year. (Palm Beach Post)

Wall E is having fun

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

walle-fun.jpgApple has added an exclusive new trailer from the upcoming Pixar animation Wall E. He might be alone but he sure looks like he is having a lot of fun with the stuff he finds on the junkyard.

I had to laugh out loud when the car key and the fire extinguisher popped up. Want to know what I’m talking about, check out the great exclusive HD trailer here. I can’t wait to see this pictures, but unfortunately we will still have to wait until June 27th 2008.

Towers of the World (Opening ToT in Paris)

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

Inside the Tower of TerrorThe opening of a new ride (or in this case clone) is always a reason to go and get to Disneyland Resort Paris. Unfortunately, this time, I’ll have to wait a little longer before I can put the new Tower of Terror to the “personal” test. Friends who have already had the opportunity to ride it said it is a clone from the DCA version, however those riding it for the first time absolutely love it. While I haven’t been on the DCA version (yet), I did get to ride the Walt Disney World one on several occasions. I can only say that I love the ride, but here we have the different ride sequences that adds to the overall experience. This doesn’t mean I will not enjoy the Paris version because of that, I am so looking forwards to it, but the surprise of the different drops will be gone and the need to re-ride it again might just be (a little) less.

Declaring under the castle

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

italianromantic1.jpgI don’t know you but when I think about the way I will dclare my eternal love to that poor female soul which will have to stand my Disney geekiness I have always pictured it very much on the “Disney romantic side”. Sure, my friends (and my Italian mum. which cant wait to have grand children..sigh) tease me to the maximum saying that I would even do my honemoon in Orlando (some things are sacred; and WDW wouldn’t be on the agenda…well maybe the cruise line would but anyways…). Well  getting back on topic I have often fantasised about that perfect way to state to my beloved half the eternal sentence “do you want to spend the rest of your life with me” (poor lady; I hope she can resist 3 tours of its a small world in a row… I’ll need to use that as a test! ;-)

WDW Trip Photo book (photo 6): Pluto

Friday, January 11th, 2008

plutocloseup-small.jpgWhat would a trip be without out beloved Disney Characters. Now, as an adult I hesitate going to pose with them, even if I am tempted, but I can’t be stopped taking pictures of them. It isn’t easy to get a shot whit out a kid(s) hanging around them (or even some adults who do go up to them), but I try my best to get some pictures from characters in their natural habitat. I know, that was a cheesy joke)

Pictures from characters during a show are easy, no “outsiders” around. But it’s the close ups from the characters walking around in the theme parks I like the most. This is my favorite one from this trip; Pluto, a shot taken between his regular “with kids” photo shoots.

Running a Marathon (not only for the Young)

Friday, January 11th, 2008

Picture copyrights Miami HeraldWhat do you do when you’re 69? You go to Walt Disney World and you run in a marathon!

The yearly Marathon at Walt Disney World is a success that brings in many people to run in what might well be the most enchanted marathon in the world.

Running through the parks and it surroundings, you would almost forget the sweat and pain. For Harry Miller it is just a normal thing to do, and he does it at the age of 69.

Chief Magic Official

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Picture Copyrights DisneyWhat would be your dream job? Would it be something involving Disney? I know I would change my present job for any job at Disney (actually I would pretty much change my current job for any other job, but that is a whole other story I will not bore you with). My dream job would be something behind scenes; either Imagineer (I guess I am not alone), or something in the Stage production department (as I have been on stage as of the age of 8 and never lost the love for the theatre, this might sound very logical).

But if for some reason you would not be able to change your day job but still would love to be a little part of it; what about becoming the very first “Chief Magical Official”? This job sounds great, not only will you be working for the mouse (Although calling this work isn’t right), but you’ll be enjoying the magic both in Walt Disney World as well as in Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. You’ll get all travel expenses paid, deluxe accommodation, some extra spending allowance, Disney Park admission and even an hourly  rate of compensation (I would do this for free).
