Guns and Fights
It wasn’t hard to miss what made the news this last couple of days. A grandma “accidentally” taking a gun to the Magic Kingdom and the fight between some members of different sport teams. It is unfortunate how negative news always finds a prime spot while the nicest info or tidbits are forgotten about. (lucky we and other Disney related bloggers like to share a lot of the magic, otherwise we would only get negative articles cluttering the web). But this time I can’t help myself talking a little about the events from the last couple of days.
Forgetting you have a gun in your purse? This while visiting Walt Disney World? While you’re surrounded by grandchildren and family? At least it was nice to hear she was embarrassed towards her grandchildren for spoiling their magic experience. I would be to, but then again, I would not carry a gun around. (I’ll avoid making this a pro-contra gun blog, I don’t want to go there, I am sure you’ll find enough of those on the web) Disney security did the right thing of course, stopping the woman from entering the park and let police take her into custody. The real question is if this will make the park any safer if somebody would intentionally wanted to bring in a gun or any other threatening device. Don’t get me wrong, I do think WDW is a very safe place, but the bag search is only a façade to make people feel save, without body search or metal detectors it would be easy to get something into the parks. I only hope this will never happen and that people would never get the idea doing something that would hurt the many guest enjoying there magical vacation.
While I do think Disney did the right thing on the gun issue I also think that their actions on the fighting was completely wrong. While a couple of youngsters went into a fight “defending” their sports team (I never got the whole hooligan thing) should be punished, it is wrong to punish the whole group, let alone their families, children and even the youngest by lifting them out of bed in the middle of the night asking them to leave the hotel and the resort. I am not saying there should be no action taken, but this is extreme. Imagine your brother doing something wrong and you’ll have to go to jail with him because your family. I know we can see these practices happened in the middle ages,… but today, and by Disney… I must say I was a little surprised about this. I do hope the youngsters learned their lesson and will not get involved into silly fights anymore (especially because you support opposing team), but I do hope Disney will change their way of punishment towards this behavior as you really cannot punish one (or multiple) other family member who had nothing to do with it.
… and now back to the happy magical Disney blog I want this to be… ![]()
