DreamWorks goes IMAX 3D

When DreamWorks came alive and started to put out their animation Disney got a new rival they had to take in account. Shrek being one of their top productions, but proven with other top titles that they are on top of the industry; Shark Tales, Over the Hedge, Flushed Away, to name a few.

A little rivalry between two top companies is always good, especially for us, the audience. With DreamWork bringing top quality out there, Disney will have to stay sharp to make sure they also bring either top quality or better product on the market. Something they are (in my opinion) succeeding in.

This time however Dreamworks is one step ahead of Disney and signed a super deal with the IMAX cooperation.

Together they will make 4 animated features that will be shown on the IMAX screen, three of them will even get the new 3D IMAX technology attached to it. The three movies are Monsters vs. Aliens (March 2009), How to Train Your Dragon (November 2009) and Shrek Goes Fourth (May 2010). The fourth movie, that will be release in 2D is  Kung Fu Panda (June 2008)

“3D cinema has an opportunity to revolutionize the way people experience movies,” said Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation. “We believe the immersive quality of IMAX will provide our audiences with a unique way to experience our films and we are delighted to include IMAX as a key part of our 3D strategy.” (Comingsoon.net)

Sounds exiting?… it sure is (although I do hope Shrek 4 will be better then, in my opinion, terrible 3rd part).

While I am convinced Disney (and Pixar) will come up with a good “answer”, I do wonder what that answer will be and what they will do to try and top this. To be continued,… for sure
