Primeval Whirl Accident

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

In an unfortunate incident a female Cast Member fell when she was hit by one of the coaster cars on Primeval Whirl  when she stepped into an restricted area of the loading platform. The accident happened this weekend. The injuries are said to be severe but it isn’t clear how the condition of the woman is at this time. While some news sites are reporting the woman has died of her injuries (cfnews13) others speak of the woman still being in hospital (Wesh).

Our thoughts go out to the Cast Member, the family, and all Cast Members operating the ride.

WDW Trip Photo book (photo 3): It Was Halloween After All

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

halloweennightwdw1small.jpgMy love for Halloween is no big secret. I love both the creepy and evil side as well as the fun part of it. (although in my eyes it is all about fun). So it is to nobodies surprise that all my visits so far have been during Halloween. Mickey’s not so Scary Halloween Party is an absolute must do for me and although I love the evil Halloween stuff, when it comes to Halloween night itself I’ll choose the Magic Kingdom.

Toy Story Mania Preview Site

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Coming to Disney’s California Adventure next summer is the new Toy Story Mania attraction. But if you can’t wait that long Disney invites you to visit their Toy Story Mania preview site. You’ll be able to see a video with imagineer Tom Fitzgerald explaining some details about the ride and you can enjoy a small picture slide show including some pictures of imagineers testing the new ride vehicles. On the site you can also see some targets floating around for early practicing…

More Halloween at Walt Disney World

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Picture Copyrights DisneyHalloween, my favorite time of year! And I love both the scary and the sweet side of it. So when I am in Orlando during Halloween I’ll be visiting Mickey’s not so Scary Halloween Party as well as Halloween Horror Nights and Bush Gardens Howl-O-Scream. (and believe me when I say that the Bush Garden event is so much better then the Universal Studios one, but that is a whole other story for some other time)

Mickey’s not so Scary Halloween is a very popular event and is sold out on many evenings, especially nearer the Halloween time itself. To be able to give those missing the Magic Kingdom event a new hard ticket event might be added in the Hollywood studios (the soon to be “known as MGM Studios”). If the news is indeed correct we will get a new event as from 2009 inside the studios park. Don’t expect a scary event, that’s not going to be on any Disney plan, but it does sound like fun to me.

Is “bus” a Naughty Word?

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Picture Copyrights DisneyEverybody likes a little controversy, and there are some who like to look for it into a Disney movie. Enchanted, the newest Disney success, might have some parents ask themselves if they hear it right; “was that the F word”…

Get the *** out of there” says a bystander in the scene where the prince attacks a bus. Easy to think some parents hear something they don’t want to hear. It seems that some want to hear the f word and that it is enough to write about it on the Internet too… Wait, I guess I got myself caught into that net to…

And don’t worry, there is no F word in the movie; it is; “Get the BUS out of there”.

Fire, Ice(cream) and the Jungle Cruise

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

dickcook.jpgIf you’re in for some Disney history and future check out this interview with Walt Disney Pictures Chairman Dick Cook (The People at the Disney Studios know him as Dick and not Richard Cook). He talks about a fire in 1970 on the Disneyland monorail, how he got the best ice cream in El Capitan and about the new Jungle Cruise movie we can expect in the near future.

There will be a family involved. The skipper will play a very important role. He’ll be more of an Indiana Jones kind of guy, with a little Jack Sparrow in him, who’s going to be able to take this family on an adventure that they never dreamed they were going to be on when they first got on board. In true Disney fashion, it will definitely have the adventure and the intensity—but also the heart and the fun. We hope we have a good outline of where we want to go and what we want to do with it in the next year. (BoxOfficeMojo)

That’s not all as this is a very long interview filled with great information we Disney fans love to hear about. Other items you’ll read about are the Pirates, Peter Pan, Narnia, Star Wars, and the movie Song of the South

It’s a great movie, a great piece of art. It’s a part of our history and our heritage. I’m sure at some point in time it will find its way—we’re just trying to think of the right and proper way of getting it out there. We’ll find the right balance of being respectful and honoring the work that has been done. (BoxOfficeMojo)

Unicef Charity Auction

Monday, November 19th, 2007

Life for some of us can be just work, and for others can be just play! If you are a Disney fan (and I have the feeling that if you are reading this you are ;-)  you will probably find yourself spending much of your hard owned cash on Disney. Things like Disney trips, books, movies, DVD’s, that absolutely necessary winnie the pooh honey flavoured toothpaste for your kid  (yes right “kid” now put it down ;-) and so on to infinity and beyond.

Yet for some people on this planet life can actually be hard, that might not have the chance to ever see a Disney themepark, nor a movie…actually some kids on this planet might not even have the chance for a regular meal everyday! Well Disneyland Resort Paris has actually done something really deserving praise; they have created a charity auction over on ebay where people (like me and you folks) and actually bid on some very fancy, and dremish, pieces of haut couture.

Five, Three, Three, Two, and One

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

wdwcastle2007-2small.jpgNumbers are everything! Especially those on the bank accounts of the shareholders. However, with many shareholders happy on the latest Disney reports, I now would like to have a look at some other numbers. Did you guess them already? It’s the numbers fans like to see…

It has been a while, but since Disney’s financial numbers are that good, I wanted to have a look at possible new gates again. Not only the financial numbers make me do this, but also the fact that others seem to believe building new theme parks is a good investment at the moment. Again, I am looking at Dubai, but also at the Hard Rock park in Myrtle Beach. A park they say to be the first of what might be a world wide adventure. Several cities already approached them, including Santa Ana, just around the corner of Disneyland where a deserted golf course might well become their second adventure.

WALL.E is Cute

Friday, November 16th, 2007

walle.jpgDoesn’t he look cute? Yes I am talking about the little robot. It looks so adorable. If the movie is going to be what this new poster is promising us we could well expect a real winner from the Pixar studios.

The little robot looks so nice and cute everybody is going to want to take it home… (It will make the toy store owners happy)

Tron II Update

Friday, November 16th, 2007

tronposter.jpgNot to long ago I already talked about a possible second Tron movie (and how excited I was, and still am, about this news), but now its seems that a sequel is closer than ever.

Jeff Bridges, who was in the original movie, said in a recent interview that he has been approached to be in a sequel. (Collider.com)

“But the reasons to do it and the reason I did that one (The original Tron) was because it was so innovative and I understand that they’ve got a whole new batch of stuff like that… innovations that they want to use on this so that could be kind of fun.”

I really want to see this one happening as I am sure, with the technology of today, we would get an awesome movie. And let’s look beyond that, I used to love the arcade game too (the one with the four games, including the motor cycle game), can you imagine the games that will appear and we will be able to play on our preferred game platforms…. Bring it on!

DreamWorks goes IMAX 3D

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

When DreamWorks came alive and started to put out their animation Disney got a new rival they had to take in account. Shrek being one of their top productions, but proven with other top titles that they are on top of the industry; Shark Tales, Over the Hedge, Flushed Away, to name a few.

A little rivalry between two top companies is always good, especially for us, the audience. With DreamWork bringing top quality out there, Disney will have to stay sharp to make sure they also bring either top quality or better product on the market. Something they are (in my opinion) succeeding in.

This time however Dreamworks is one step ahead of Disney and signed a super deal with the IMAX cooperation.

IAAPA Attraction Expo 2007

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

orangecountyconventioncenter.jpgDisney! It is my passion… especially the parks. You walk in there, it feels like a whole other world, like a dream that comes alive. So, with this said it is clear that Disney and the parks will always be my number one. However, there is more than Disney alone (really?). One of these things are.. well, other Theme parks, Roller Coasters and rides… I guess this might be a lame introduction to the IAAPA trade show that is starting today (The Trade show, Conference started yesterday) in Florida, but it might have work getting your attention on some other Florida events.

Why is Florida so far away for me? IAAPA is one of those events I would love to visit. See the new “toys” first. Play with them, gaze at them… sounds like fun. So if you from and around Florida, make sure to go and visit this great event. Although mostly targeted at the professional market, on Friday the general public can enjoy it for a $30 entrance fee. If I would be in the neighborhood, I would be there. And if you are, send me some pictures!

Thank you Disney

Monday, November 12th, 2007

This is a “happy blog”; a blog in which Andy, Dirk, Stefan , Simon and all the rest of us write about our love for Disney, our love for entertainment, our passion for all things “Disney” and in which we all appreciate the way in which this passion (insane one, according to some) allows us to find new friends most often not even close , physically speaking, to us. Today I realised even more the effect Disney has on me! You  see this morning I was woken up by one of those phonecalls which you never want to recieve; a school friend of mine died this saturday night of breast cancer at the always too young age of 30! I knew her since kindergarden and shared every school year from todler age to high school with her. Obviously due to university and life you tend to loose some day to day relationship but every time I saw her I couldn’t help but think what a blossoming flower of  passion and life Laura was! It obviously hurts to know that someone which you shared so much with is no longer here; but I am pretty sure that from up there she would be thinking that all of our lifes need to go on and that if she taught us something this is to always smile and to face life (and death) in a clear way: head on and with a clean soul. Well, as you can imagine I was pretty much in the dumps today. As ridiculous as it seems Disney helped me out! This weekend the Italian press office,  just like many other DLRP marketing offices, had organised the Xmas season press event! For my country one of the main events was having the most heard Italian radio play live from plaza gardens its sunday program running from 14 pm to 17 pm! Well hearing the DJ’s talk about there Disney experience, talk about how wonderful inspiring the park was, how the enchanted xmas ceremony   brought shivers down there spines and all the rest of the wonderful sensations I (and you I guess) get everytime we are there allowed me to distract from my loss and smile! The work done by everybody in Paris, and by local people (such as my friends over here in the Milan offices) has the power not only to make dreams come true but most of all, how Walt would have most probably said to allow for the real world to stay outside those gates and for a few hours (moments for me…and at a physical distance) leave all your worries behind. Thank you Walt, thank you Disney Cast members, with all your work you have once again allowed someone to still think that there is a little bit of hope left in this world. Walt would be proud, and my friend Laura would be smiling

WDW Trip Photo book (photo 2): The Hollywood Brown Derby

Friday, November 9th, 2007

tripwdw2brownderbysmall.jpgWalt Disney World has some fine dining experiences. Being on the dining plan we visited a couple of the best places. One such places, although for lunch, was the The Hollywood Brown Derby at the MGM Studios. While most trip reports might include some information about the food, I would rather talk about the amazing Cast Member and their service and dedication.

Numbers UP again!

Friday, November 9th, 2007

For those interested in numbers check out the Walt Disney Company Report for Fiscal year 2007. You’ll see that numbers have gone up (again) and that the theme parks (except for Hong Kong) are doing extremely well.

I am not going to try and analyze the report but I think owning Disney Shares is a good thing right now (I should really get some myself but I just spend my money on a WDW trip)

WDW Trip Photo book (photo 1): A Christmas Tree

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

christmastree1small.jpgThe first picture I picked (from many to come) is the Christmas tree outside of the MGM Studios. On the last day of my trip (as you can see the picture will come in no particular order) I was lucky enough to get a glance of the Christmas season that will take over the Walt Disney World resort. While I choose to visit the world during Halloween, being my preferred holiday, it is always nice to be able to get a little Christmas added to the trip. As I left on the 1st November I didn’t think I would get to see any Christmas spirit. I was wrong and therefor able to get this shot the day before returning home. Maybe a future Christmas visit should be put on my list.

Is Mickey Mouse Going to Malaysia?

Monday, November 5th, 2007

malaysia.jpgIf the following information is indeed correct Malaysia would be the next to get a Disney Theme park.

Walt Disney Co is looking to build a theme park on a 500-acre (202-hectare) site in southern Malaysia, a business weekly reported on Saturday. Citing unnamed sources, the Edge said the theme park, to be located in Bardar Nusajaya in the Iskandar development zone, would be ready six years after a deal was signed, according to early proposals. Back from Walt Disney World

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

tripwdw1small.jpgAfter 10 days of Orlando holidays I have returned home and it’s time to start on the trip report and the updates your used to. However, this time around I’ll pass on the usual trip report but will invite you all on a Walt Disney World trip picture book.

Soon I’ll be adding some picture of the trip, each with its story added to it, avoiding the regular “been there, done that” trip report… It was a great trip (it was at WDW how could it be otherwise) and I do have some great stories so make sure to come back on your regular visit to the blog and enjoy.
