High School Musical III: The Stars, their Paycheck and No Halloween!
With the success of the first High School Musical a second part was not far away. The second High School Musical playing now and we can already look forwards to the third movie. This time however we will not get to see it on the Disney channel but we will have to go to the cinemas.
Of course, to get a third installment we need the stars to jump on board and at this moment rumors indicate that no contract has been signed yet. Zac Effron has been offered $2.5 million to return to HSM3 while other previously stars where offered a $1 million deal. If rumors are indeed correct it was Zac who told his co-stars to wait until they too would get a better offer to return for the next movie.
Personally I am not a big fan of the series. Sure, I can see that the songs are catchy, the dance routines are well choreographed and that the concept is working, but my problem is related to the characters and how some of the characters are portrayed. I worked (and still am involved) to long in the theater and can’t help myself dismissing the awful stereotyping of some of the characters. Ms. Darbus (played by Alyson Reed) for example; I have never encountered a drama teacher like that before. It is however some sort of eccentric portrayal of a drama teacher that can be found on other movies and series too when characters like this are shown. Also the characters of Sharpay Evans (Ashley Tisdale) and Ryan Evans (Lucas Grabeel) are so over the top that I just cannot enjoy it.
Part 3 however was something that could give it a little edge for me. When they first talked about the movie it was going to be set around Halloween and would or might have included a Haunted House set. I love Halloween and I love Haunted Houses!
Unfortunately this idea has now been dropped and a more general story has taken its place where HSM3 will be centered on the fast-growing “kids’” senior year.

I must agree about not really enjoying the whole High School Musical franchise. I thought the first movie was kind of cute, but the second one was a huge disappointment, and the fact that they made all the singing in it sound synthesized and oh so phoney kind of ruined the songs for me.
