Jim Returns
With a few exceptions (noteably international phenomenons LOST and Desperate Housewives) the numerous shows on Disney’s network ABC are not really a topic we blog about regularly here. But this time the news is so surprising that I just had to forward it, after reading it on the German website Quotenmeter.de: the comedy series “According to Jim” starring Jim Belushi will return for another season on ABC!
What’s so surprising about this? Well, in May 2007, so not even two months ago, during the screenings of ABC line-up for the next tv-year ABC stated that “According to Jim” would not be renewed for another season. Logically everyone assumed that the show would end for good with its current season. But now ABC has informed the public, that despite its past statement another season has been ordered, which will initially consist of 18 episodes. The show is scheduled as “mid-season-show”, meaning it won’t start (as usual) with the start of the new tv-year but later, in mid-season. But mid-season-shows are frequently used to plug holes in the schedule if new shows don’t measure up to expectations and are cancelled before the end of the end of the season.
I guess this is good news for all fans of “According to Jim” as well as for the whole cast and Jim Belushi. Personally I must admit I have never seen the show - but thought such a drastic change of plans is worth a post here. One needs to wonder why the sudden change of heart? Maybe because the comedy line-up of ABC is - at least according to what I understand from online-reports - not the strongest offering of the network? Or is the reason maybe that the show is produced by Brillstein Entertainment jointly with ABC Studios, especially as the show is (according Quotenmeter.de once again) the studios’ last remaining comedy highlight?? Any insights from readers in the US??

I guess so too, but who are these people? I don’t know anyone who watches this show. I’ve watched one episode and found it to not be original, but also not even remotely funny.
