Will Remy the Rat be Able to Defend the Disney/Pixar Deal?

ratcooking1.jpgA very interesting article on the Business Week site is questioning if the Disney buying Pixar deal will be paying of with Ratatouille as its first defender. Although predictions don’t speak of a record box office, a positive answer to the questions is quickly provided in the write up. The happiest people will be the shareholders of course, who saw their share go up 40% since the deal was made.

…Because even if Ratatouille doesn’t come out of the gate with some super-duper opening weekend, and folks say that Iger and company got snookered in the Pixar deal, it doesn’t matter. Sure, the Pixar deal was pricey, but it was worth it. Disney all but reinvented itself with the deal. Top Pixar creative font John Lasseter has remade Disney’s stumbling animated studio, replacing the director for the upcoming American Dog and jumping in to overhaul the recent Meet the Robinsons. The latter flick is approaching $100 million, a rarity these days for Disney-made animated films. Disney also gets a clear shot at making theme-park rides based on Pixar flicks, such as the new Finding Nemo ride at Disneyland. (Business Week)

Personally I am very excited about the Ratatouille movie coming out. I loved all trailers I’ve seen so far and can’t help myself thinking that this movie will be better then Cars. I did like Cars a lot (a little long at some points), I especially loved the characters and how “human” they looked being animated and representing real cars…

On the negative site; Ratatouille will have big competition. While Ratatouille will be going for the number 1 spot in the first box office weekend it comes out (release date 29 June), the following week it will be up against the Transformers. Now be honest; how cool does that movie look. Though competition? How about the following week when it will have to go against a little wizard called Harry Potter? It will be though for sure, but I do think a first great weekend will be followed up with very positive numbers and lots of great new Disney Merchandize. How about a great “there’s a Rat in my kitchen” play set, or has that one be copyrighted already. (Sorry for the silliness)
