Disney Partyfizz is Kids Champagne

disneyglasses.jpgIf there is one drink I love it is Champagne (it is about the only drink with alcohol that I drink). So, occasionally, as it is pricy, we open a bottle and enjoy the bubbly liquid. When we open one for a celebration of some sort we cannot have a drink without something for our son. He will then get a nice Kidibul, a champagne look-a-like drink for kids. Never would I think that this would turn my son into a future drunk, but is seems some people have other ideas about this when it comes to drinks that look like champagne:

Scottish health officials have accused Disney Partyfizz, a juice drink, of contributing to underage drinking because of its resemblance to champagne. (upi.com)

Really? Do people think that, because of some bubbles?

“It could lead to potentially dangerous situations,” Alcohol Focus Scotland executive Jack Law said. “A child could reach for a bottle of real champagne at a family party thinking it’s fizzy juice, and pour himself or herself a glass.”

If I would put a glass of champagne in front of my seven year old son and a glass of kidibul or Partyfizz (I have to check that out), I can guarantee you that my son will go for the kids version. Not only because of the lemonade taste, but also because of the “special for kids” party drink that looks like what the parents drink (but taste so much better for them). And even if he would grab the real deal, isn’t it up to the parents to explain and make sure what their kids drink. Personally I think the health officials should tackle real health issues and stay away from this silliness.

At least one young consumer of the beverage confirmed that the appearance of the drink does strongly resemble an alcoholic beverage.

At least ONE? Now there is a case (and I wasn’t talking about a case of champagne).

I was devastated to read this article, my children have had the cars one and the princess ones for their Birthdays for the last couple of years, I was wondering why Tesco had taken it off their shelves! Absolute nightmare, it was a real treat for them a nice change as it made the kids feel really special when the cork popped. BRING IT BACK PLEASE!!!!!
