Disneyland Anaheim Gate Three
Is it a fight about the low cost housing or does Disney really wants to defend their area and the possibility of a third gate?
…Other council members expressed frustration that Disney hasn’t been more forthcoming with its expansion plans. “If that’s what this is all about, then why don’t they let the world know about it?” Councilwoman Lucille Kring said. Councilman Bob Hernandez said it was unreasonable for Disney to influence land-use decisions based on sketchy details of a possible third theme park. “I don’t think it’s reasonable for us to ask a developer to hold off developing a property for 25 years because Disney is talking about doing something.” (LA Times)
But now it looks as if Disney might have an announcement to make in the near future that might change the Anaheim park into the full holiday resort they want it to be.
“People come out to Southern California for a week,” said Miller, the analyst. “Of that seven-day vacation, Disneyland used to only capture one day. Now it captures 2.5 days. They want to capture all those days.” (LA Times)
A third gate and the Cruise (to combine it with park visits) could well be the solution that will take visitors to the Disney gates and stay there for their full holiday time. (I know I would)
Disney won’t say what the latest plan is for Anaheim, but sources familiar with the planning process said Disney wants to mimic its Florida blueprint in Anaheim: add time-share units, bring its popular cruise line to the West Coast and zero in on high-end consumers with boutique hotels. New attractions for its lackluster California Adventure are in the works, and Disney is giving fresh consideration to its long-promised third theme park. (LA Times)
Yes, these sound like big plans for Disneyland, the park where it all started. Since Walt Disney World in Orlando was the key player when it comes to holiday resorts now Disneyland might turn into a future one…
Walt Disney World accounts for about 80% of the company’s theme park operating income (LA Times)
Will we see a new picture in the future? With these solid rumors it sure looks like something is going to happen very soon in Anaheim. Something all Disney fans will be excited about. (I am)
A third gate that will bring people to stay for at least 3 to 4 days, the cruise that might convince many to make this a combined experience (and the Disney Cruises are popular) and new Disney Vacation Club resort. DVC is very popular and when looking on several forums the demand for a resort at Disneyland Anaheim is big and will be a secured success from the first day.
Once Disney announces the plans, will the fight with Anaheim be over? I’m sure they will come to an agreement once the plans are on the table. To be continued… for sure

I would guess a third park will be finished by 2022. I think this because right now Disneyland resort is going in 5 year steps. The first five years is phase one to california adventure, the next five years will be phase two! Following that can be a five year slot just for a third gate. 2022 is about 15 years away which I think will be when we see a new park. If we’re lucky it might come sooner!!!

The dilemma with disney is the expensive foods there. I’d prefer to eat outside. But the rides there are amazing, even for an adult.
