Marvel Comics going to Dubai

rogueatioa.jpgWhen visiting Walt Disney World in Orlando I can’t leave without a visit to another park; Islands Of Adventure! This park is appealing to me for several reasons; the awesome roller coasters, great rides, but also because of the Marvel area. I am a big comic book geek, I love them, I read them and I collect them. A good 10.000 books, if not more, are in my collection. I love X-men the most, but have many others in my collection.

Today I saw the news that Marvel has signed a contract with the people at Dubai so they can ad the well know super heroes in a park over there.

Marvel Entertainment Inc. said Tuesday that it has teamed up Al Ahli Group to develop a $1 billion theme park in Dubai based on Marvel superheroes, including Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk and The Fantastic Four. (New York Business)

The Project will open in 2011 with a direct investment of over $1 billion USD. The creative team, which consists of some of the most spectacular creative minds from around the globe, will be based in Hollywood, Orlando and Dubai throughout the four year development process. New technology and unparalleled visitor experiences will be the hallmark of the theme park, creating a new standard for theme parks around the world. (Marvel Inc)

smallpartofmycomiccollection.jpgSounds amazing to me! And well worth a visit from this Marvel geek. With news like this you can tell that the theme park industry is going in a good direction. Especially at Dubai where a formula 1 park will be build, a Snow park is already in operation and more to follow in the future. I know, it’s far away from Walt Disney World (or any Disney Park) and it doesn’t really have a connection to the Disney parks (except for the fact that the development will partly take place in Orlando as mentioned above), but I could not help myself posting it here.

I’ll be totally following the park evolution and start dreaming on a visit, but not to worry fellow Disney fans… Disney is still number one for me (and will stay number one, even after the new Marvel park opens).

[...] Just a couple of post before I talked about the Marvel Comics park in Dubai where I also mentioned the F1 Theme Park. Only one day later I came across a very interesting news item on the Grandprix website related to Formula 1. Now let me start this of with the following question; Did you think that Disney and F1 would ever see a joint venture going on? I sure didn’t see this one coming but I am intrigued, to say the least, about the following rumor. [...]

One thing sux though. There’s not decent comics shop in entire Dubai, and i was completely utterly dissapointed with that fact. They should be ashamed, not to have it, and they’re building a theme park, blah :(((
