Prince of Persia turns into a Disney Prince
What to do when the Pirates trilogy comes to an end, (although rumors for part 4 and even a second trilogy are out there) and you can’t find any rides to make another movie out off? You go to Computer games and see if there is something there that could be exploited. While most of the games that made it out on film are among the worst movies ever, Disney seems confident when Jerry Bruckheimer is added to the mix they’ll get the job done. Even if most other Games failed on the big screen.
The plan! The highly popular Prince of Persia games! It looks like Disney will be releasing a live action using the characters from the Prince of Persia games. I still remember the very first game (yes, I am that old already) and had lots of fun playing it. Although I do know some of the follow ups after the first one I never really played them. Still, as I do know the characters (a little) I am interested to see if Disney and Bruckheimer can pull this one of. Disney might well be the first to take a popular game into the cinema and turning it into a success (I must admit that I enjoy the Resident Evil movies, in my opinion the only games that have been transformed well onto the big screen so far)

I hope they do this. It could be the very first really great Videogame movie.
The original sure is great, but the new versions, precisely the Ubisoft trilogy (The Sands of Time) are fantastic as well and have more of a story line.
So, just make Priates. But with the Prince. Please.

An interesting idea, but I wonder if Disney have over-estimated the significance of video games on the cinema-going public. The Pirates franchise works so well because it is a universal theme that everyone can identify with. As someone who has never played (or seen) PoP, I doubt if it would have much appeal as a movie concept to me, or anyone of the older generation (a very significant part of the movie-going market). Disney would have to do a very good marketing job with the Bruckheimer/Pirates connection to give it the kind of widespread appeal necessary to make it a major hit, I think.

I just found a story about some Concept-Art on Joystiq. Looks really good. If they can get a cast, production design team and SFX team like they had with Pirates, this is gonna work. Sure the Game might not be well known with the mainstream moviegoer, but the Pirates ride probably wasn’t either ( at least not here in Germany). There have been few…..no really well done Movies based on games. I just hope they do a good job (at least we already know that it’s going to be better than Alone in the Dark, Bloodrayne and so on
).
