The Disney Web, Piracy, and the Power of the “Lost” Fans
Robert Iger spoke at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas where he previewed the new revamped Disney.com web site with improved navigation, build in Video option, and the Xtreme Digital feature where children can surf the web, watch videos, play games and chat with friends at the same time without parents to worry about some content found on other sites.
Iger also addressed the Piracy problems where he mentioned that it is the industry that can help prevent this curse by setting a balanced between price and the product that would make piracy less interesting.
“Getting the balance right between convenience and pricing is a challenge facing all of us,” Iger. “The best way to combat piracy is to bring content to market on a well-timed, well-priced basis.” (Cnet News)
After a parody “Lost” Video, used by Robert Iger, two of the stars came out on stage. Evangeline Lilly and Matthew Fox came out and they talked about the influence of technology. It was interesting to hear that Matthew Fox said how much influence fans have who share their thoughts on the web.
“They have a lot more control over the show than we do as actors,” he said. “We’re at the mercy of the fans. Our producers are constantly going online.” (Cnet News)
It is nice to hear that the fans voice in heard by the big companies. Not that I am expecting them to do what fans say (and not that they should), but maybe they do pick up a thing or two giving us fans all over the world a little bit of influence over what is happening with the things we love and cherish as the fans we are.
Iger also brought producer Jerry Bruckheimer to the stage who showed the audience a little preview of the third Pirate movie.
