Disney 2006 in (a Short) Review
Disney had a top year in 2006, most about everything they did turned into gold. The Disney shares skyrocketed and must have made many Disney shareholders happy. Disney Theme Parks gotten a little fuller this year.
The 50th celebration of Disneyland came to an end, but has brought big attention to the Disney Parks. To make sure to keep the attention the new “Year of a Million Dreams” can be considered a big success to. You can read a lot of “magical moments” all over the internet. The more articles about it, the more people will read it, the higher the interest will get from people, concluding in extra guests for the park.
Expedition Everest was a hit, even before opening day everybody was talking about it. It proofs once again that the Imagineers are masters and can bring some real magic into the world, even when starting from scratch and without a movie as a layout.
Talking about movies; the Pixar deal was pretty much one of the best in the business. Robert Iger would proof that he is a big force behind the Disney Company when he finalized this Disney-Pixar merge. He would be applauded everywhere and only good is spoken about him.
Also Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead man’s Chest was a success and the DVD must have been on many Christmas list as it sold millions of copies within days.
Whatever went wrong in 2006 was quickly forgotten, turning into a shadow of all the successes. (The Sports Phone ESPN service might be one of those shadows)
I think Disney had a strong year. It proofed to be on top of the game and has a CEO that is taking the company into the good direction. Let’s see what the future will bring…

Yes, there can be little doubt 2006 was a successful year for the company as a whole and especially the theme parks division. You could also point to the big drop in attendance at Orlando rival Universal as further proof of their success. With Pirates 3 and the new Pixar film Ratatouille on the horizon, there should be plenty more financial progress in 2007, and it is just up to the parks to maintain their momentum from 2006. Whether there is enough new development in the orlando parks to keep attracting high numbers will be the most intriguing question, we believe, but DLP should definitely benefit from the new Tower of Terror attraction.
