And the 64th Golden Globe Award Nominees are…

goldenglobeweb.jpgThe Nominees for the Golden Globe Awards are known and the Disney Company is doing well. Some of the nominations are for the following (together with my personal thoughts on the chances to win it);

Best performance by an actor in a motion picture – comedy or musical; Johnny Depp for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead man’s Chest. Personally I think he makes a good chance of winning this title even with the other names in this category.

Best animated feature film; Cars is on the list, together with Monster House and Happy Feet. Although I did enjoy Happy Feet, I don’t think this one will win. Cars is my personal favorite of winning this one.

Best foreign language film; Now here is an interesting one. While this category represents movies from abroad the US Apocalypto has gotten a nominee in this category. Sure, nobody understands what they are saying, none of the actors are from the US, but it is a US production so I was surprised to see it here. I am not judging it or saying it is wrong…. just surprised. My favorite of this list however to get the globe would be Pan’s Labyrinth.

Best Television Drama series; ABC, what’s it going to be? Lost or Grey’s Anatomy. How can they loose with two on the list. However I don’t think Lost will get it (I wish) but Heroes might be the surprise winner here.

In best performance of an actress in a television Drama Series Lost has to go again Grey’s Anatomy again. Evangelyne Lilly from Lost would get my vote, but could Patricia Arquette be the surprise of the evening. She does a great job on Medium and I am not sure if the globes will honor lost this year around.

here are other categories you’ll see ABC trying to get the upper hand. “Desperate Housewives” for example, has a shot at the ‘best television series – comedy or musical’, to name one. For the full nomination list: check out the official Golden Globes website.

Well, those are some of my prediction, but I am sure I am totally wrong! :-) We will know on the 15th January when the globes are being presented on NBC.

    My prediction is that the lovely and talented Patricia Arquette will take home the globe. She is consistently human, believable, intelligent, and emotionally honest week after week in “Medium” without ever falling into hysteria or melodramamtics.

  2. Simon Veness Says:

    The Queen has been a huge critical hit here in the US, so I’d expect that to be picking up some awards, along with Helen Mirren, Leonardo DiCaprio and Letters From Iwo Jima. It hasn’t been a classic year for movies, but there have been some significant highlights, including Clint Eastwood’s amazing Flags Of Our Fathers/Letters From Iwo Jima double offering. Haven’t seen The Departed yet, but it got terrific reviews, and is one I’d certainly like to see. My feeling is Depp may not get the award he deserves for Pirates 2, but may well pick up something for Pirates 3 (as happened with the Lord of the Rings trilogy for director Peter Jackson).
