Halloween! (Part 2: Scares not at Walt Disney World)

HHNweb.jpgWhenever I go for the “sweet” Walt Disney World Halloween experience I will not miss another Haunt when I am in Orlando. Like I said it the first part; I love Halloween, so it is impossible to celebrate without a visit to some really scary haunts. The best place to do this when visiting Walt Disney World (in my opinion) is going to Halloween Horror Nights in Universal Studios. (starting 29th September)

Now the last thing I would do (as the Disney fanatic that I am) is lure away people from WDW to visit another park, but admittedly there is a lot of fun out there that will tempt me to get off Disney property and enjoy it.

Halloween Horror Night is one of those and one of my favorite events. I go to Mickey’s not so Scary Halloween party, but I will make sure to go to some (multiple) Halloween Horror Nights too during a “Halloween” visit

Here are my personal tips to enjoy Halloween Horror Nights!

Go during non peak nights if possible. If this is possible get the frequent Fear Pass. You’ll be able to go on all non peak nights and enjoy the scares for multiple nights for a good price.

Get the Express pass! It is a must have, even on non peak nights. Bypass the lines because the can get long. To enjoy this pass to the fullest do the following. Get to the park as early as you can for the Halloween Horror Nights. Either go for the day and do the Stay and Scream option or be at the gates at least one hour before the event start. Once inside run to the first house and take the regular queue line. Do this for as many houses as possible. Normally you’ be able to do all the houses within 2 hours without the Express Pass. By now the park is crowded, and lines are getting big. Time to hit the houses a second time; this time with the express pass! Like this you’ll be able to enjoy all the scares twice. Remember, this is for of peak nights. Peak Nights should be avoided if no Express Pass. Queues are 2 hours long and the chance is big you might not see every house.

HHN2005Event2.jpgScarezones are fun: Some people are getting so scared of the Chainsaw gang it is a pleasure to see them run (I guess that little evil side of me pops back up)

Just like I said in part 1: forget about the rides. Do you want to do the rides go to the park during the day. Don’t miss out an extra visit to the houses because of a ride.

Stay away with young children. You know you’re child best and will know when it is ready to visit the Halloween Horror Night but I have seen very young children crying in the park because they could not deal with all the scary stuff. I think most Scare Actors will not scare those even more, but with all the things going on in the park it is unavoidable the scared children will get to be scared even more. If you’re kid is not up to it but you do not want to miss it make sure you have a babysitter for the night. It is not fare on the little one. I know I stress this a little but I have seen to many little kids being scared for life walking in the park with tears running down.

HHN2005Event1.jpgIf you’re up to it and you don’t mind to “jump” when the scare actors come to you try this. Make sure to be there early. Once inside the park go to the house the furthest way from the entrance. As most people will start in the front of the park there is a good chance you’ll be in the house alone. I managed to do this in 2003 when I walked in a house on my own… AWESOME!

Enjoy your scares during the Halloween events and remember to let me know where you are showing off your Halloween Horror Night or Mickey’s not so Scary Halloween Party pictures. I want to see them.

Halloween Horror Night is running from Sept. 29-30 and continuing through Oct. 6-8, 11-15, 19-22, 26-29, and 31

  1. Simon Veness UNITED STATES Says:

I can only endorse Andy’s comments about HHN whole-heartedly. It is a fantastic programme and the scare factor is WAY up there! It is worth underlining the message about children as we feel it is definitely not something for under 15s, but people still seem to take young kids expecting a much milder experience. They are usually wrong! It is huge fun, if you have the right sense of humour, and Universal do this better than anything else we’ve seen (with the possible exception of Skull Kingdom in Orlando, which is on a much smaller scale).
